MY CAR ~ MY BABY

I have always been an overprotective mom to my cars and I don't share well. My children were never allowed to eat or drink in the car although I think I let them have a bottle/sippy cup with water. A spotless clean car is a must, inside and out. (my daughter has followed in my footsteps)

Now I am not as big of a clean freak anymore because I am no longer physically able to do it. I remember when my children started driving and my husband expected me to just give them my car. Talk about hard! I eventually gave in but depression followed. I really don't know where this came from. Needless it say it was important that my children got their own cars!

So fast forward to the present and I am still very controlling of my car. I had my first Mini Cooper for 5 years, my husband never drove it. Got my second Mini CooperS two years ago and he hasn't driven this one either. I did let my family test drive it but that really doesn't thrill them because they know how I am.

So we have the trip to Mammoth Lakes this year, right? My daughter has a Toyota Yaris that is going on five years old. It's in great shape (low mileage) and would surely make it up in the mountains but she really didn't want to drive it. Our son is in the process of getting a new car but wasn't able to drive the car he is currently driving because it was just to old and didn't actually belong to him. So they start asking if they could take my car.

Conversations went on for a few weeks and my stomach was going crazy at the thought. So then my daughter had to remind me of the woman we had worked with who lost her son at 19 to an accident that happen in the grocery store he worked at. She always regretted that she never let him drive her sports car. He had always asked and she would say no. Obviously it wasn't very important in the long run and wished she had said yes. So I am thinking what should I do. I keep thinking what if something happened and they were not driving my car, what if my car would have been safer.

Finally I said end of discussion, I don't want to talk about it anymore. I knew my daughters car would be just fine. Then right before the trip I heard my husband on the phone with our son and I could hear him say "mom said no." Then I was feeling really bad so right before my husband and I left for Mammoth I said "do what you want, I don't want to know!"

So they showed up in my car, which I knew they would jump on it given what I had said. It all turned out well and they made it safely to Mammoth Lakes. So at that point I knew that I was going to be the one driving it home. Now we have been going there for over 16 years and this would be the first time I would be driving. Guess what, it was okay and I actually passed many cars on highway 395. My daughter was with me and she gave me a high five. My Mini has power and I actually enjoyed the drive home. (passed two motor homes at once, also two cars and a motor home! Gee, do I need to be first like my husband?)

So our daughter drove back with me and our son drove with my husband who took him back to Los Angeles before heading home. It was a great vacation and I was okay with the way it turned out.

And no you can't borrow my car!

P.S. Keep in mind that I am a very giving person and give my children all that I can, just don't ask to use my car. Also the rules for parking is that you must ALWAYS park on an end and preferably to the right so you are next to the passenger side of the car next to you with the hopes that it is just the driver without a passenger. Yes I do have a long walk when I park!

Debby, Ok I guess I should not ask to borrow your car lol.

We park at the back of parking lots too. So many people out there do not care about their cars and will slam a car door into yours without hesitating.

Have a great weekend. Blessings,

Those little cars look like so much fun and so cute, no wonder you do not want anyone to borrow it!

Debby (don't you love all the people who are welcoming you to follow their blog? LOL)

don't blame you for wanting to have your car for yourself. My hubby is a lot like that with his vehicle and stuff; I personally don't like driving his car or using anything specifically his because I'm worried something will happen to it and cause him grief (LOL)

me, anyone and everyone can drive my old van; it is a sight to see these days with dog hair in it, etc :)

glad everyone and car got up and back from Mammoth in one piece too!!

This story is cute. We all have our quirks, and yours is your not wanting to share your car. The vacation worked out very well when you did share.

The only part I hate is getting in after my husband has drove it. I have to readjust the mirrors, the seat, and the steering wheel. For some reason he likes the steering wheel almost in his lap whereas I like it to be up.

Those little Mini Coopers are such cute fun cars! I can see why you are protective of it.
I am not that protective of my car - I have to many kids to tote around so I gave up long ago! Ha ha

You are so cute! I didn't know that when we were praying for safe travels we were also praying for the car! ;-)
I bet they were extra careful driving it too seeing that you love it so! I love it! (I'm the same way- park far away and walk... as for my car always being clean... I don't even go in the back of our mini van anymore... think I'm in denial!) tee hee hee

The story about the mother regretting not letting her son drove her car is a bit manipulative. It is your car, and yours to decide.

That is a sweet little car. Aren't you proud of yourself for giving in at least once? Now never let them touch it again!!!

Your comment you wrote is exactly how I feel. I want Baby Boy healthy and safe. Blessings,

Oh wow! I've never had those relationships with any of my cars (in succession, a red, a white and a blue car, didn't want to break the patriotism). Then again, I've always figured it's only a car and replacable. People are not!

My daughter is 13. I'm not sure how I will be when she starts driving. The idea sends me into shivers.

Well, that was funny. Good for you for letting go of some of the control :) You have been going way out of your comfort zone quite a bit this summer!! Good for you :)

I laughed myself silly! I only get my car washed when I get the oil changed.....we all know how often that comes around! I also let just about anyone drive my car. I do NOT however, let anyone (with let being the operative word) mess with my computer. They do on occasion and it is always messed up afterwards! We all have our "things" don't we??? :)

It looks like your blog construction is going well!

I really do not have anyone who is even interested in driving my car. I drive a stick, so that does limit some people though..... hee hee.

I am glad everything worked out well. I am not particualr when it comes to vehicles. I have on in FL. just so I have something to drive whenever I go there. I don't even know who is using it but I know one of the kids or in laws use it...Christine

Debby don't fret my parents are the SAME way. Love them to death but they would NEVER let me drive one of their cars. They are super clean too, I use to be the same but now with the boys sadly not as much.

My parents are cleaning there cars every few days, like total detailing. I wish I could get mine in the line up :).

My mom always parks in the back. It's a good idea anyway b/c you get more exercise that way! I know I don't mind the extra walk.
