WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

1. Share something you loved about your Christmas Day.
The love and laughter my children shared.

2. You get to put five items in a time capsule to be opened in 100 years, what items would you choose and why?

My DVD of It's a Wonderful Life because it must always be noticed and appreciated.
My favorite Tova cologne so people can share in the beauty of its bouquet.
A Christmas card so people can feel the joy that came from exchanging them with friends and loved ones.
A hand written check to show how money use to be exchanged.
A book of family photos so our sweet faces can be shared with the world.

3. What do you like on a cracker?
Brie, it has been my newest favorite!

4. Do you make resolutions at the start of a new year? How'd that work out for you this past year?
Well I would be lying if I didn't say yes to this questions. It is usually about eating healthier and getting more exercise. Hasn't worked very well to date!

5. What's a song or song lyric you'll associate with 2011?
The only thing that comes to mind for me is "Firework" by Katy Perry. It is really a great song and has helped at lot of young people feel better about themselves.
Firework lyrics:
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you?

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby, you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework ....

6. How will you ring in the new year?

First I will put our dimes out on the window sill. A family tradition that my grandparents (dads side)did every year for good luck. I will put out six dimes for each of us and I put nickels out for our pets. We will stay home, always do, and try to stay awake until midnight so we can toast in the New Year with champagne. I do not follow the tradition of eating herring but we will have chips and onion dip! For some reason onion dip has been a tradition here for us on New Year's Eve.

7. What is something you look forward to in 2012?
Playing my new Wii! Working on that healthy body! (see #4) My children's birthdays. Hopefully visiting my dad soon. Taking more time for myself and setting aside time to read each day. Our annual trip to Mammoth Lakes. Finding the time to actually get rid of the clutter that smothers me and hold me prisoner. (no I am not a hoarder, it's not like that!)Praying that the year is happy and moves at a nice slow pace instead of flying by.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Well some of you may remember when I mentioned that Primatene Mist was going off the market on December 31, 2011. Well that is just a few days away and for the past few months I have made a point of buying a few each week after bowling. I would try different Targets each week. They have the lowest price ($17.99) next to Walmart who had pulled theirs off the the shelves about a month ago. The last two weeks they are gone from Target also. So here is my supply. They are off the shelves because of CFC's and a new formulation is coming but they are late in having it available. This is the one thing that really helps me for a rescue inhaler. I think I have close to a years supply and I'm trying not to panic at this point and time. (wasn't willing to give one up for the time capsule!)

I'm with you on the song "Firework" - Did a post about it earlier this year - it's a good one.
I love that you got a Wii and are excited to play on it! Yayyyyy!

Love that song "firework"! Great pick for 2011. And you can beat love and laughter bellowing out of a house during the holidays. Blessings.

I always put money (just a dollar bill) out in a bush on NY's Eve because that's what my grandmother did for financial luck in the new year. Silly, but it's tradition.

Debby, I'm sorry they are taking the Primatene off the shelves. I know how you feel. My husband has taken allergy shots for years, and about 3 yrs ago, they stopped making the serum that had helped him. He's done ok without it, but he would do better with it. Love that Fireworks song. laurie

I've never heard of the dimes on the window sill but we must eat black eyed peas on New Year's Day. I never knew that until I met my Southern husband : )

Happy 2012 to you and your family!

Well you are interesting gal - I would put the same movie in my time capsule. And I'm going to be chillin this New Year's Eve too. And we will eat less and healthier this new year - right? Sandie

That was fun to read.
Wow on the Primitene. I didn't know it was going off the market. I thought there were other rescue inhalers out there. Hopefully in the New Year you won't need them as much.

Writing out a check. That one had me laughing because they are becoming a thing of the past!

I've never heard of leaving out dimes, but I like that tradition!

I'm sorry they are pulling your medication, but it's great that you had the foresight to stockpile! I know how it feels to have to change meds that work for those that don't work as well...sigh What's a person to do?

Trish said...

So sorry to hear that they are discontinuing this medication. It's good that you could get it over the counter and smart enough to stock up.
Glad to see that your Christmas was filled with laughter.
Happy New Year!

A written check: What a great idea! Somebody else said "Firework", too...great song!
Love the tradition of the dimes in the windowsill!

Caroline said...

Loved your answers & I love the song Firework.

The dimes sound like a neat idea.

It's always scary when a medication that does the trick is all of a sudden not available. I hope that the new and improved inhaler, when it comes out, works for you as well.

I have never heard of the dimes thing --- hmmm, I've got a couple of those!

LynnMarie said...

I never heard of the dime thing either. Maybe I'll try that this year and see if our luck gets better. So It's 6 dimes per person on any window sill and a nickel for every pet right? Any special order of the coins? Looks like you surely do have a lot of the inhaler and that when the new one comes out, it will also be a good mix for you. Happy New Year

You are going to love the Wii! It helps me keep in shape, and when I start to gain a bit I keep dancing for a week and walah back in shape:) We are home every year, staying away from the crazies:) Happy New Year Debby!

I'd never heard about the dimes. I'm praying that the new formulation will be out before you run out of your inhalers ... and that it will work as well as the old formulation. And I never would have thought of putting a written check in the time capsule ... awesome idea!

We usually are home to ring in the New Year. We hate getting out on New Years Eve.

Debby I love your #1 :)

Your time capsule is very cool! You have a great way to show it. Have you seen on pinterest the way to save your christmas cards. It was pretty cool way to keep them all together.

Warm Brie is the BEST :)

hehe same resolution .. lol

Man I need to open up my music content. I listen to mostly the Christian station so I don't know this song, very nice.

I'm so glad you were able to get almost a yr supply. I wouldn't put one in the capsule either :)

Enjoyed reading your post! Primatene being pull off the shelfs..looks like they have to get rid of what works like they did my rolaids...now I can't fine anything that works as good. Blessing Trish

Never heard of the dimes theory. We do black-eyed peas and greens. I am sorry to hear about the Primatene...I used it for a long time. Have not had to in the past few years. since moving to rock Mills I have been able to keep allergies in check with OTC allergy meds and am glad. Happy New Years!

nancygrayce said...

We stay in on New Year's Eve too....but I have not heard of the dimes. Here it's greens and black eyed peas.
