WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

1. Noah Webster was born this week back in 1758....besides the online version, do you own a dictionary? Do you ever use the hardback copy or is your hunt for a definition strictly online these days?
When I first starting blogging I would use one all the time. Now I pretty much look things up online. We do use one when we play Scrabble.

2. Should public schools ban Halloween celebrations? What about other holiday celebrations currently under fire?
No, I think these celebrations are fun for the children. All of them!

3. What's your favorite 'dog' movie?
Marley and Me, Must Love Dogs and Turner & Hooch to name a few.

4. When were you last somewhere you'd describe as 'too quiet'?
Nothing comes to mind except that our house was pretty quiet last week.

5. Are you a neat cook or a messy cook? In other words do you clean as you go or make a big mess and then deal with it later?
I clean as I go along.

6. Did you hear about Felix Baumgartner, the skydiver who broke the sound barrier via parachute? Was your first thought COOL! or was your first thought CRAZY! Are you adventurous?
Yes I heard about him, didn't watch it. My first thought would be crazy. I'm not as adventurous as I've wanted to be. If I had a guarantee of not getting hurt I would definitely try a lot of things, even at my current age!

7. What's not a word but should be?
Godincidences, I use it all the time!

I am so sorry to hear that your daughter and son-in-law are having troubles in their marriage, but, hopefully, they can work things out. Prayers being lifted up. I really love your word...I may have to start using that one myself! Enjoy your Wednesday, Debby!

Oh Debby, my heart just aches for the mama pain you went through over this. I hope they seek counseling or something to help them over this bump. Hugs!

So happy that they're back together! They have things to work out, but glad you accept him as your son and your heart broke for him as well as your daughter. They will work things out. *hugs*

Praying that your daughter and son-in-law can work through their problems.

Loved Marley and Me ... if only because our lab had a fair bit of Marley in her.

Godincidences- what a great word!

I'll pray for your daughter and son-in-law.

I certainly hope that your daughter and son-in-law find the peace they are looking for and can renew their marriage.

I too, hope that things work out between your daughter and SIL. Pain hurts and when you all live so close,it's even more so. I hope they can get some help with this and make it work.

Glad that things have calmed down enough for your daughter & SIL to think about decisions... that's tough.

Yep - my mom is a WOZ fan too & wants Over the Rainbow at her funeral as well :) I love the Natalie Cole version from the song from the poppy field - its perfect if you listen to the lyrics - talking about going to the gate to open... oh yes - could totally be Heaven's gates!

I am so sorry for the trouble. My oldest son's wife left him 3 years ago. It was terrible! We lived through it and God has blessed him with a beautiful new wife, but the scars are still there. Hope they can work things out stay together.

When I walked out on my marriage of 24.5 years I thought my parents would die....instead they were relieved. It turns out they were not thrilled with my first choice. Second choice...that is a different matter...they would probably have thrown me out before Frank. Glad things are working better.

I think our culture today makes it seem like we've grown immune to the pain of divorce, but that is not the case. My sister divorced her first husband (after 20 years) and we loved him like a brother. It has been 7 years now and they're both remarried but my heart still aches when I think about it. The ripples of pain are felt by many, not just the two divorcing. I'm not implying there's never a reason, only that it hurts. I will pray for them..marriage is really hard sometimes. Hugs to you too!

Oh gosh. That part about your daughter and SIL scared me. My heart started pounding. I'm so glad it worked out. I hope whatever was going through her mind has resolved itself. I totally forgot about Marley and Me. That one got me too. Seriously, I hope all is well with those two.

I hope your daughter and SIL can use this as an opportunity to work on whatever it was that got them to that point.

As for the hodgepodge, I'm an in between cook. In the prep stage, I clean as I go. But when everything is cooking and I'm getting it on the table, I leave the mess for later.

That would be hard, Debby, with what your daughter/son-in-law were working through last year, especially since they do live with you. I'm glad to hear things are improving though; hopefully they'll be able to continue to work through issues and stay married. I think we all do change over the years; you know what a commitment marriage is.

Years ago when I was in home economics class as a freshman in high school, I'll never forget my teacher telling us of the importance to cleaning up our cooking as we went along so we wouldn't have a big mess at the end and then we could spend more time with our husbands (this was over 35 years ago, LOL). So I got into the habit from that class and if I'm cooking, I clean up as I go :)

oh Debby that is heart breaking...hopefully they will be able to work it out...sometimes a break is all that is needed to know that you really need that person...it is work to keep a marriage together..it is easy to let it slip away...

Enjoyed your answers and I forgot completely about Marly and Me. Good movie.
Glad your kids are working through their problems. I can imagine how it hurt you. It affects so many people. I know when my ex left how it hurt my mom, he was her son for 18 years. But things do happen, sometimes for the better. Will continue to pray for your kids!
until next time... nel

I'm sorry I missed your prayer request, but I'll still keep them in my prayers as it sounds like there is some healing needed in their marriage. ((HUGS)) to you and them :-)

Prayerfully, they will continue to work things out and have a long and happy marriage. They are so blessed to have you in their corner!

I hope your daughter & sil can still work things out. I think sometimes people are too quick to throw in the towel...marriage is such hard work!

I clean as I go but my husband doesn't. Lol

And I have dictionaries at home - don't use them too much.
