WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Thank you Joyce :)

1. It was decided on Sunday the Denver Broncos will meet the Seattle Seahawks in this year's  Superbowl. So when was the last time you bowled? Not where you thought this question was going is it?  Do you like to bowl? Are you any good?
Well that would be yesterday. I have been bowling on a Tuesday morning league for about 20 years now. Am I good?.....no!  It seems like each year my average continues to goes down but I am there to socialize and it is one of the best days of my week. Now there are some ladies who have averages up around 180 but I have always been closer to 135, this year my average is 122 but I did bowl a 172 game last week which was a nice surprise.

2.   Should sports stars be role models?
Yes, however we have seen over the years that even the good ones can turn out to be poor role models. I always thought it was wonderful to see the story behind Tiger Woods showing young people how with practice and determination you could achieve good things.

Unfortunately he didn't teach them what it means to be a loyal husband to your wife.  I can't even watch him now!  Sports figures will always be role models because they are awesome until they go bad.......

3. January is National Oatmeal month...are you a fan? How do you like your oats?
I've never been a big fan. I grew up eating Farina but when my cholesterol was high last year I started adding it to my diet. Usually I like to have it with some fruit mixed in but lately I've just been putting it into my smoothies.

4. What is one book on your reading list for 2014?
There isn't just one. I have shared this before, I am a collector of books that I want to read.  Trouble is I never read them. I still have  Wild and a few others here from my Christmas list last year. This year I just asked for one, Devotion by Dani Shepard.

Besides that I will buy books online when a good sale comes up. I want to read, I love to read but I end up spending my days here. I will usually read two books in the summer on vacation. Believe when I tell you I have a LARGE collection of books waiting for me and most of them were popular titles when I bought them.

It is definitely time for a change because books take you away like nothing else can from a chair in your own house!

5. What would you like your future self to say to your present self?
Don't continue to try to change people who can't be changed. At some point you have to stop!

6. When scrolling through the TV guide, what is one movie title that makes you want to stop, grab the popcorn, and watch for a while?
Of course there isn't just one but I am going to say Steal Magnolia's is one of them.

7. What are two style trends you hope never come back into fashion?
I've never been much of a style trend follower. I of course Googled to see if anything stood out and found The 7 Biggest Fashion Trends of the Past 70 Years and of course none of them looked bad except for some crazy shoes.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
I seem to be out of random although I thought I had something the other day that I wanted to share with you. I hope to have up a movie review soon. With the Academy Awards coming up on March 2nd I like to be prepared. Also on February 16th the BAFTA awards are on from London and I watched them last year, they are just as awesome as ours. Anyway, we went out and saw Dallas Buyers Club on Monday night and it was excellent!

We normally see a lot of movies this time of year, since they work with this cold weather. Haven't seen Dallas Buyers Club yet, or American Hustle which I'd still like to see. We'll probably see Lone Survivor next as that's one we both want to see. Have a good day Debby!

I read Wild. It was interesting.

I used to eat oatmeal every day for breakfast and overdid it. Now I can't stand it.

I like those shoes!

Love Steel Magnolias...gets me every time! With me being only 4'11", I think I could use a pair of shoes like those! :)

I can relate to your answer on #5.

It's too bad we can't get together and watch Steel Magnolias, it's one of my favs, too.

I, too, have an extensive library of books waiting to be read, but I usually end up reading blogs instead!

Could you imagine walking in those shoes in your photo? It would send me straight to the ER!

Regarding that advice your future self might give to your present self: just keep the Serenity Prayer in mind :)

Oh I LOVE LOVE Steal Magnolias but I must be in the mood for a GOOD long cry as that scene with Sally Field at her daughter's grave side gets me every time!! And believe it or not my family lived next door to Tiger Woods for almost two years until we moved. He played with our kids when his dad allowed it which wasn't often. He cried and carried on and begged his dad NOT to go golfing! I felt soo sorry for him. Of course we had no idea where he was headed, but trust me from what I saw he had a miserable child hood. Funny huh? Enjoy your day!

i'm not a fashion person, either, but those shoes made me laugh.

i really like oatmeal, but rarely, if ever, eat it. weird. :)

172 is amazing! Those shoes are hideous. I like a wedge heel but that platform is out of control! I love farina- made with milk and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Sure miss it since going gluten free.

I can't wait to see your movie review. I always love it!!

Sports stars always make me so sad how far they can fall. I know everyone is human and they have a microscope on them. But I so wish they would know that and all the kids that look up to them.

You might want to start a book club - or join one - and then reading will become a part of your life. Or, at least it did for me. I now put "reading" on my daily to-do list because I consider it something I need to make time for daily. I love to read!

I've bowled on and off. I started on a team with my Mom when I was about 16. She started bowling when pregnant with me and never missed a season until her death, so that was about 37 years. My sisters and I get a good chucked at that. Thanks for visiting my blog and I am now following you. ( actually meant to hit the button last night, just forgot)

I downloaded Wild & excited to read that too before the movie comes out.

Oh, those shoes!!! Hilarious! :)

i love to read! Typically I read when we are in the car traveling between hockey games, or an hour before bed time. It helps me unwind. Sometimes I don't put the book down until midnight, then I suffer the next day. ;-)

I remember shoes like that. I hated them then...and still do. Loved your number 5. That is so true and something I am known for.

I don't care about sports but the fashion question is interesting to me. I would love for leggings-as-pants to go away. I very much dislike high-waisted pants. I hope to never see a return of gauchos or leisure suits or those things like look like a cross between skirts and pants.

Love your #5 Debby. Sad about Tiger. I did not think about him but echo your thoughts.

Love your answer to #2 re: Tiger Woods!

I can't believe I've never seen Steel Magnolias. :/

172...impressive!! :-)

So true about Tiger Woods, and I do agree that sport playing should be role models since kids tend to look up to them. Good for you Debby getting out and bowling like that, but I know you have fun with socializing :)

I started making a habit of getting 5 books from the library every 3 weeks in an attempt to read all of them in the 3 week period. I usually have to renew some of them for another 3 week period but do get them all read within 6 weeks. I found I missed reading when I was spending lots of time on the computer, so I try to get at least 15 minutes a day on reading, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Oh my gosh those shoes, that's all I can say!

The design of your blog is really pretty and pleasing.

I had forgot about the thick-soled shoes like you pictured. Those were wild. I should have worn them since I'm just over 5 feet tall, but I would probably fall over my feet and get hurt! LOL! Blessings to you!

Very interesting to read your answers. Oh, those shoes look dangerous! Funny the things I used to wear because they were fashionable! Hope you enjoy the afternoon.

The last time I bowled was over a year ago with a few of my grandkids. Wow am I out of shape. Too many aches and strange new pains the next day.
Now watching movies is a bit easier.
I thought "Gravity" was Ok.

Sports stars are role models and thus should be a good one!
I love oatmeal!
And you can't change anyone but yourself!

Shoulder pads and leg warmers. They should be forbidden! Leg warmers can at a push be used by ballet dancers, but everybody else should just steer clear of them.

I saw a promo for a film the other day and decided to buy the book. (the Book Thief). I hope it is as good as it sounds to be. The premise is good for a start. I don't have many books waiting to be read, because a. there's not much choice in English books here and b. I have become much more discerning about which books to buy. I think that after my visit to my sister in April I will be coming back with my suitcase filled with books!

If there were a prize for the lousiest bowler ever, I would WIN!

Those shoes are pretty awful, haha! I think gaucho pants are almost as bad!

Cathy said...

I love Steel Magnolias! And those shoes are awful!

Cyndy @ Back in the Bush said...

It's a shame that kids so look up to sports figures as role models and then get let down. Some of them are pathetic.
I hate oatmeal! I have tried to like it but I just can't.
#6 is great question but I too could not just have one answer! Forrest Gump and The Green Mile are two that I watch a lot.

I blame the Spice Girls for that fashion trend!
