MAY DAY

In all my years I never remember celebrating May Day. Maybe we did something in grade school but I surely don't remember. I think it would have been fun to run around the Maypole

Changing gears here I am going to call a Mayday on myself. That's right my body is in a state of distress and it is calling to me.....help me Debby, help me!

So I've decided that I have to push myself and try harder. It is really easy to sit back and say I can't do it because of my COPD/Severe Asthma but I am going try and what better day than today! I've been eating a healthy diet for a few years now but you can't lose weight without some exercise.

I am going to try to walk down to our pool area today. Of course walking down to the pool is the easier part of this. Walking back up to the house will be the hard part because we are at the top of a hill. Not sure I will do it everyday but I will try to walk there several times a week.

Hopefully this will set me up for swimming when they start to heat the pool for Memorial Day. Living in Southern California doesn't mean warm pool water. Our nights are always cool and we would heat the pool at our last house most of the year. They only heat our beautiful neighborhood pool from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

So hopefully I will be able to manage walking down to the pool and back by the end of May so I can stay at the pool to do water exercises. If I find the walk is too much then I will drive to the pool like I did two summers ago before I had my bout with acute pericarditis and several other issues since then.

Hope everyone has a great first day of May and a wonderful weekend!

You're the same age as I am, so I'll bet you didn't celebrate May Day back in school. The Russians always had a big May Day military celebration, and since we were in grade school during the height of the Cold War, I'll bet the powers that be decided that a May Day celebration here in the US would have been too similar to the Russian celebration??

You got this! And it is a good time of year for walking.

Not sure if I did May Day or not. If I did, it must not have been very memorable ;-)

I don't remember too much with May Day growing up with celebrations either. You can do it Debby with the walking. Just take your time the first few times you walk; you'll reach your goal!

I remember hearing about May Day but we never celebrated it. Praying for strength and health my friend. I need to start walking myself...can't swim so I don't get notebooks. LOL

I remember playing with the maypole a few times as a kid at school. I don't remember specifically ever doing anything for May day.
Good for you for setting goals. You got this girl!! The pool is gorgeous and I wish I was there to swim with you.

Debby, I am sorry you have respiratory issues. Those of us who don't, tend to take for granted our easy breathing. Good for you for making a plan to walk. The neighborhood pool looks beautiful! I hope you'll be able to swim and enjoy it, and to have a wonderful summer.

Oh, and one more thing, when I was in grade school (when the earth was young), we DID have a May pole and danced around it with colored streamers, weaving in and out until we had the pole criss-crossed in fabric. It was a lot of fun.

Oh! And another thing...(sorry)... we also made little May baskets out of construction paper, filled them with candy and spring flowers from the woods, and hung them on people's doors. The idea was that they were supposed to notice, come outdoors, chase us down and kiss us. Yeah, pretty weird, but it was fun.

I remember when I was young we did the leave flowers on someone's door step. But haven't done that in many many years. I love my girlfriend who every year celebrates with flowers and always gets them on her door too.

I remember doing a maypole thing once as a kid. This year I had dinner with a friend, but not really because it was May Day.

Good luck with the exercise.
