MY BLOG IS CARBON NEUTRAL
“My blog is carbon neutral” is an initiative, originally started in Germany by the “Make it Green” programme, that has the goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. We plant a tree for your blog and thereby neutralise your blog’s carbon footprint for the next 50 years! Everyone can make a small contribution to the environment. Every tree counts!

The trees are planted in Plumas National Forest in Northern California by “Arbor Day Foundation” our partner in US for the “My blog is carbon neutral” initiative. The “Arbor Day Foundation” is a non-profit conservation and education organization with the goal helping reforest 5,500 acres of Plumas National Forest with 792,000 trees.

How the First Earth Day Came About

What was the purpose of Earth Day? How did it start? These are the questions I am most frequently asked.
Actually, the idea for Earth Day evolved over a period of seven years starting in 1962. For several years, it had been troubling me that the state of our environment was simply a non-issue in the politics of the country. Finally, in November 1962, an idea occurred to me that was, I thought, a virtual cinch to put the environment into the political "limelight" once and for all. The idea was to persuade President Kennedy to give visibility to this issue by going on a national conservation tour. I flew to Washington to discuss the proposal with Attorney General Robert Kennedy, who liked the idea. So did the President. The President began his five-day, eleven-state conservation tour in September 1963. For many reasons the tour did not succeed in putting the issue onto the national political agenda. However, it was the germ of the idea that ultimately flowered into Earth Day. To read more you can go HERE!

Happy Earth Day
Okay I did my part. I ordered several items from Mrs. Meyer's today. Free Shipping ! Also got a new foundation from Tarte who works really hard at keeping all the bad ingredients out. I try really hard to use natural products around my home and put natural products on my skin. I was extremely excited when I found a new natural fiber sponge the other day. I must admit that the fact that it is beige and matches so nicely with my kitchen colors did help sell me on it. Being Earth Day I decided to share my beautiful geranium from my garden and also a picture which we proudly display in our home of a geranium which was painted by my husbands Nana who was born in 1900. I do love geraniums. Don't forget to recycle.
