My date (birthday gift) with my son Adam on Sunday to see the The Wizard of Oz Tour 2013 by Andrew Lloyd Webber was absolutely amazing. You can check the above link to see if it's coming to your area soon!
We meet a little after 11:00 am and had a fabulous lunch at Delphine across the street. We had plenty of time before the 1:00 pm curtain call just to talk and spend some quality time together. (Had to plan extra for traffic)
I am 58.5 miles from the Pantages Theater. Normally when we go into Los Angeles to visit Adam and Tristen Mark drives. I knew where I was going but always a little tense making sure I don't make any wrong turns. I did have my GPS on my phone besides my printed directions.
So I turned my radio off when I got closer so I wouldn't miss the lady telling me which way to turn. I had to laugh at myself because when I got on the 101 fwy she said it would be 7 miles to Hollywood Blvd. It felt like forever and I found myself (in my head) telling her to speak already...surely I have gone 7 miles!!!
Something else to share is that when I get in my car to drive I always ask God to watch over me and keep evil out of my way. Well let me tell you that it was as though He parted the sea for me. I had no traffic either way and at certain points the roads looked desolate.
I cried at the end, it was such an emotional experience for me. My mother's name is Dorothy and we played Somewhere Over the Rainbow at her funeral. It wasn't just that but the fact that they did an absolutely great performance and Danielle Wade who is touring with The Wizard of Oz was an excellent Dorothy and had a fantastic voice.
One thing that was a special treat was that the lighter colored Cairn Terrier that you see in the above video was not in the performance that we saw. I am sure that when they have a matinee they use two dogs that day and the one on stage could have been Skye, looked exactly like her with her darker features like Toto. It was so much fun watching Toto on the stage!

Beautiful ceiling at the Pantages....
It is absolutely amazing what they can project onto a stage
and the scenes were spectacular, felt like you were right
there in Kansas with Dorothy.....
Thank you Adam and Tristen for the
wonderful birthday gift!

you are right, Skye and Toto could be twins... sounds like you had a wonderful time and also a good trip there and back. i always like to have someone with me when i travel and like you it makes me nervous doing it alone. glad that traffic parted for you.
What a fantastic birthday gift! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
You sound sort of like me driving. (I hate not being sure where I'm going.) I'm going to remember your driving prayer the next time I slide behind the wheel of my car :)
I'm so excited for you! That sounds like a dream day :-)
so glad you enjoyed it! I think I've told you this before, but my mom's name was Dorothy, too!
glad you enjoyed it - even with tears.
you just gave me chills about your mom and the song! I so want to see this.
So glad the drive went smooth! xoxo
That sounds like fun! I saw the Wizard of Once in Washington DC...but it was almost 15 years ago! I have never been to a play at the Pantages theatre...I should add that to my list of things to do in the near future!
Debby, this is just so awesome!! I could almost feel 'tears' just reading this and imagine how happy your heart was. How sweet that you played Somewhere over the Rainbow at your mom's funeral... LOVE THAT SONG!
Sounded like a great time with you and Adam, Debby! Neat too that you had all that "alone" time with him; I know that was precious enough, then you got to see that great play! I would imagine you are right and they do use 2 dogs on days of matinees; must be well trained to perform like they do (something Koda could never qualify for :)
Thanks for sharing your special day with us.

So glad you had a wonderful time. Sounded awesome.
What a wonderful gift! I'd love to know how they did the tornado!?
I saw Wicked at the Pantages and it truly is a stunning theater on the inside.
Everyone must have been down here in the OC if your traffic was that light!
It sounds like it was the perfect day. You will be floating all week, I imagine! Ann
I'd love to see The Wizard of Oz.
GLad you had a wonderful time!
What a great birthday. Fun - emotion - great play - family - I know you really like the Wizard of Oz and I love it too.

Oh, that sounds like a great night (well, afternoon) out. I wouldn't have minded coming with you!
Glad you got to go to that show - sounds like fun. The lion looks weirdly hippy to me (as in big hips, I mean).
It sounds absolutely perfect! One of those unforgettable, priceless memories. I'm so glad you had that experience!
