Yes, I am extremely overprotective of my dogs. Maybe even more overprotective then I was with my children. Maybe because you can't just sit down and talk to them. No matter how much time I spend talking to Skye and I tell her all the reasons why she can't run out the front door into the street she will never get it. And she is fast!
So yes we must always be outside with her in the backyard. I am dreaming of the day I can leave her alone but that day may never come because I am so neurotic. So as you can see in the picture to the left we have put a screen up along the back of our yard, on the cat fence because we have a view home, so her tiny body won't leave our yard. Someday she will most likely be to large to go through the cat fence. I also worry about snakes, coyotes and owls. The owls only because of her size right now. (See I was always in this yard with my Angel (Yorkie) and one night a owl swooped down very close to her so my fear is real) I actually saw a bobcat too!
So on the weekend when my husband is doing yard work she is out with him. She really, really loves playing in the yard. Watching birds, chasing bees/flies, and running along the fence with our neighbors dog. So as my husband was busy digging holes for some new planting little did he know that our precious little Skye was digging too! He looked over to find her next door playing with her dogie friend. Thank God we have put enough fear into our neighbor next door and he too has put up the screen! So as you can see in the picture to the right, she is now on a double leash not enjoying the backyard as much. So do you think she is learning a lesson from this punishment, I really doubt it!
