WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE #602

Thank you Joyce.
To play along click HERE

1. What's something you're curious about right now?

Right now I'm just curious about how the next few weeks and months will go. There are so many things to figure out and schedule. Not sure how it's all going to come together.

I see my eye doctor this week to figure out what we are doing about the lens in my left eye. Mark is going on a fishing trip to Canada for 10 days and we plan to visit Amber and Dylan in June. I'm just a bit overwhelmed.

2. If you could plan the perfect girl's weekend getaway, where would you go and what would be on the agenda? Do you have anything like this on your calendar in the next few months?

Gosh, I'm not sure but a trip to Las Vegas would be fun or just a weekend in a hotel on the beach in Carlsbad, CA. No I have nothing planned.

3. What's the most unique item in your refrigerator right now?

Maybe Horseradish Sauce.

4. In this season of your life, what do you find most challenging?

As you know, it is my health that is very challenging right now.

5. Do you collect anything? If so why that?

I've collected giraffe figurines for years. I don't have a lot of them but the giraffe is my favorite animal. I have some Jim Shore and Willow Tree too. The large brown giraffe was my first one and it was on our mantel in our house in Western Springs, IL around 1980.

Little by little I have gotten rid of a few pieces of Jim Shore and  several pieces of Willow tree. I do however put away the current Jim Shore pieces and put out my Christmas ones for the Holiday.

Well, working at a Hallmark store it was very easy to fall in love with the Jim Shore and Willow Tree items.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We had a nice Mother's Day celebration with Adam, Gabby, James and Gabby's mom Isa on Saturday evening. We went out to a King's Fish House restaurant. It was a delicious meal. Sadly I didn't get any family photos. Here are my gifts I received from my family.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

I hope everyone has a lovely Mother's Day.

I know that this day is not easy for everyone. Those of us who have lost our Mother's and those who have lost a child. May God hold you close in His arms today. ((HUGS))

WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE #551

Thank you Joyce.

1. What impresses you?

I'm not sure what impresses me but I liked when I was more OCD about things compared to today. I have no motivation so I guess people who are motivated to do things everyday impresses me.

I was that way for so many years and I miss that. A lot of that has to do with the fact the I have COPD and just can't do what I used to do.

2.  Where are you in your family birth order? Do you fit the stereotype of that particular slot? In what way?

I was the last one born, the baby of the family. I don't know how I fit in. There was a quiz yesterday on WebMD about that but I haven't been able to take it yet.  I guess I was spoiled.

3. What motivates you more-a reward or a consequence? Elaborate.

Interesting question which I really don't have an answer for. I am guessing the consequence would motivate me more than a reward.

4. May 14th is National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Who thinks biscuits deserve their own day? Do you like biscuits? Make your own? Grab one for breakfast at a drive-through now and then? Which drive-through makes the one you like best? What do you like to put on a biscuit? What's your favorite food or dish that calls for buttermilk?

I guess I like biscuits but don't have them often. I do not make my own. The only drive through that we like is McDonald's Sausage Egg McMuffin with cheese. I do not have a recipe that uses buttermilk.

5. Are there any weddings on your summer calendar? What's your favorite part of a wedding/wedding reception?

No there are not any weddings on my calendar. The wedding itself is always lovely to watch and the reception is awesome too. Also enjoy the food but I don't care to dance.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

James in his Montana shirt....

My Mother's Day cards, See's candy, a gift card and flowers.
We went out on Saturday evening for an awesome dinner.

WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE #504

 Thank you Joyce.

SORRY THAT THIS IS SO LONG

1. What surprises you the most about people?

Right now it would be in a political way so that's all I'm going to say.

2. Would you rather have a chauffeur, nanny, gardener, maid, personal shopper or cook? Tell us why that one?

Right now I would go with a maid. There is so much I can't do anymore and Mark will do it but doesn't want to. We need to downsize and he won't budge.

3. May 18th is National Notebook Day. No idea what that means but let's run with it anyway. What's something you currently keep in a notebook? Have you seen the movie The Notebook? On a scale of 1-5 how does it rate? (5=a favorite, can watch and re-watch and re-watch again)

I currently have things I need to accomplish or want to do in a notebook. This is by the request of my therapist. Yes I've seen The Notebook. I will give it a 4.

4. Do you like mushrooms? Last dish you made or ate that had mushrooms on the ingredient list? Your favorite dish that calls for mushrooms?

I love them. We do a lot of sauteed mushrooms. Don't have a favorite dish but I did make Chicken Marsala once and loved it.  Otherwise I like them just the way to they come to dip into something like hummus.

One thing about mushrooms is that I collect them in nick nacks and have been doing that since my 20's. I don't have all of them anymore but I still buy things with mushrooms on them.

5. What would you say is the most annoying thing people do in public?

No doubt there are several things but I'm going with leaving trash on the ground. I hate that!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

So my random may be a little long.....

We had a lovely Mother's Day with Adam, Gabby, James and Isa who is Gabby's mom. We went to Macaroni Grill and had a lovely meal. They also had the Italian acaplella man singing at tables. This was one of the best we have come across over the years. He was a character for sure. We had him over to sing a few times and James was thrilled.

The when we got home Gabby and James were dancing in the kitchen. It was so cute. I got flowers and some See's Nuts & Chews. Mark got me the See's Dark Chocolate Hearts with peanut butter inside. I also got a Macy's gift card from Amber and Dylan. (I buy my PJ's from Macy's)

                                       ********************************************

So let me tell you about Monday. Mark went out for his morning walk. About a half hour later he called me and said he fell and he was about seven houses down from our house. Obviously I got dressed and went to him. There was a neighbor who saw him and was trying to help him. Mark couldn't get up at all. So he called an ambulance for Mark. First the Fire Truck came and then he was taken to the hospital by an ambulance.

Now the reason he fell was because he saw a coke can in the street and went to kick it to the curb. The rubber on his shoe caught the pavement and he twisted and fell. (He kicked the can!) So he totally tore the quad tendon from the knee cap. He was sent home with a full leg brace and crutches. This is really bad. No pressure on the leg for 3 weeks. Should be a 3 to 6 month recovery. Thankfully he didn't hit his head on the curb because he was very close to it. I am so thankful for God's protection over him.

This of course means more work for me. Things I can no longer do in the house he does but won't be able to. He has a trip to Canada in three weeks which will not happen. We are praying we can make our trip to Amber and Dylan's at the end of June. If not driving we could fly!

Surgery was on Tuesday at 5 pm. I'm typing this on Tuesday morning so I don't have any information to share at this time.

                                       ********************************************

Dylan's mother passed away last week. She was never close to us. She didn't like us for some reason. She was not a person who saw doctor's or took medication. So her health wasn't that good and had more breathing issues after having Covid a few years ago. She was having trouble breathing and was taken to the hospital. As it turned out, she had cancer in both lungs and her bones. They gave her 3 weeks to live. Dylan's Aunt Debbie flew her two son's to CA and one son lives here, for Mother's Day weekend. When Dylan arrived she had then seen all three of her sons. Asked the doctor's to pull the plugs and died at 3:50 the next morning. Dylan is having trouble dealing with this as we would expect. My heart hurts for him.

                                      ********************************************

As you know, I have been having a hard time reading blog posts. Lately, because of my anxiety, I find I get extreme anxiety in my shoulders and back after reading for an hour or so. I'm trying my best. Now with Mark needing me more I'm afraid I won't be around much at all. However, I am still grateful for God's protection over us. One day at a time for me.......

Love you guys. Thanks for listening.

WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE #462

Thank you Joyce.

1. What do you never get tired of?

Seeing James of course. Look at him, he is getting tall and thin like his daddy was. Slims didn't even stay up on Adam.

2. My mother made the best     lasagna  .

3. What machine or appliance in your home aggravates you the most? Why?

I was thinking that there isn't an appliance that aggravates me but with further thought I guess it's our double oven but only because sometimes it makes a funny noise while heating up.

4. What are three things that brighten up your day when they happen?

1. A hug from Mark.
2. Texting with Amber in the morning.
3. Seeing James! (his mom and dad too)

5. Thursday (May 12) is National Limerick Day...write a limerick about relating to spring weather, spring blooms, or a spring event (five lines, the first two lines rhyme with the fifth line, the third and fourth lines rhyme together)

There is a bunny who comes into our yard
A picture of him would make a cute post card
He comes to see if I left him a carrot for him to eat
It bring me such joy to watch because it's just so sweet
Then he rests for a while before he puts up his guard

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I had a lovely Mother's Day. Amber called me in the morning and we talked for a long time. Usually we text each day but talking on the phone is really nice. I received a nice card and some money from her and Dylan.

Later in the day we went over to Adam and Gabby's. We brought all the fixings for dinner. We had Prime Rib, baked potatoes and a Caesar salad. We also made Rotel queso and chips when we got there. We decided on no dessert because it is just too much.

My cards and gifts on the counter in the kitchen. Mark had bought me See's dark chocolate hearts with peanut butter inside and Adam, Gabby and James bought me See's Nuts and Chews along with the beautiful flower arrangement and a candle.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

I hope everyone has a nice Mother's Day. This day is not easy for so many people who have recently lost their mother or have lost a child. I pray God gives you the strength you need to make it through the day. ((Hugs))

We had plans to got to Adam and Gabby's today but since their plans for Saturday got cancelled we went last night. Ordered food for delivery and we brought Cheesecake Factory cheesecake. Mark had one delivered to me on Friday! No brunches out this year but trying to help support the local restaurants with take out.

Take care, stay well and God Bless You!
On May 2nd it was a month since my father passed away. I finally opened up all of the sympathy cards I received. I just wasn't ready before that. (Thank you)
Since I'm already here, on a lighter note we did our first Sprouts delivery and it was wonderful. The shopper texts you while he/she is shopping in case you want to substitute something they are out of and I was able to let him know something I forgot so he could add it on. (you can't see some of the red peppers, onions and apples next to the bananas)
It's this precious....
