NEW YORK IN AUGUST PART TWO

Friday:

Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island
This was a huge thrill for me!

Heading to Ellis Island

This place was very moving. Our ancestor's on both sides came through these same doors, saw these same ceilings.

We spent some time looking up our ancestor's. Didn't have much luck, needed more specific dates. Also, we had looked out one window and saw a small wall of names. Come to find out that Mark's grandmothers name was on that wall. Of course we found that out after we were home!

They show this church in the
National Treasure movie.

Beautiful burial grounds which some
famous people have been buried in.

 This reminded me of 9/11

9/11 Memorial....very moving and hard to photograph.

Passed some bridges on the way to Katz's Deli.

This was on Mark's list of things to do.

This place was amazing.

 Mark's Brisket

 Arch at Washington Square Park

This must have been Saturday:

We didn't use the Red Bus as much as we wanted to even though we bought a 3 day pass. We did use it one day and just rode on it for awhile. I think it was after we got lost in Central Park. Long story, got turned around and missed a few things I really wanted to see.

I was very excited to so Gray's Papaya. It is talked about in a favorite movie of mine "Fools Rush Inn."

 The famous Apollo Theater

A small bridge in Central Park

Never got to the boat house
but you see this in several movies.

Across the street from the Guggenheim, which we didn't have time to go to, is the Neuve Galerie which I wanted to see. They have the art work from "The Woman in Gold" on display. Have your watched that movie? I was so excited to see this art work in person.
The painting Adele Bloch-Bauer I (1907) by Gustav Klimt remains on permanent display as part of this exhibition. This is not the original here, they do not allow photos of the art work. The movie is based on this true story. I was just in awe of it. I was so happy we did this.

 Drive by.....

Elevator used in "Sleepless in Seattle."

On Mark's list was Smith & Wollensky. Jim Gaffigan talks about it all the time! We had a fabulous dinner here.

Serendipity 3....we headed there for dessert that night.

Serendipity's Frozen Hot Chocolate

Heading home on Sunday!
You can see Central Park.....

Writing a post four months after you went there was not easy for me. I hope I didn't leave anything out.  Had a couple of excellent breakfasts in the Marriott Elite Club along with wine one night. More than anything we walked our butt's off and New York was fabulous!

I did forget one thing. New York had a heat wave while we were there. Hottest it has been in over 3 years. It was sweltering and hard to breathe which obviously wasn't in my favor.

Also there is a place in Central Park that was designed to throw people off course. We asked a man for help and he told us about it and of course we were in it!

Don't forget to watch the ball drop tonight!

NEW YORK IN AUGUST PART ONE

Our trip was amazing. I was so happy to finally visit New York and I certainly hope I can go back someday. I didn't get to see everything I wanted to see in Central Park. It is so big! We should have gone ahead and paid for the carriage ride.

We bought a three day Big Red Bus tour pass but ended up not using it that much. Come to find out it really doesn't drop you off very close to where you actually want to go. A lot of walking wasn't working with my COPD but little did we know I also had A-Fib. We had to stop often for me to rest.

So Mark had business the second day so we stayed on Long Island Monday & Tuesday, had a fabulous dinner at a Blackstone Steak House. I know I have photos on my phone of food but these posts will be long enough as it is. We also went to see the house from The Amityville Horror movie.

I'm just going with the flow of the pictures from my camera. I left the pictures at medium so click on them to enlarge. We stayed at the J. W. Marriott Essex House across from Central Park which was amazing.  We had four nights there.

Wednesday:

So we started with a walk into Central Park. The park is huge and we really needed more time spent there so maybe next time. There are a few things I missed seeing that were on my list. We had lunch at Tavern on the Green and that was a nice treat.

Pretty covered walkway.....

Beautiful Bridge but I don't know the name.

Cute little guy eating a snack....

Okay I need to explain here. Yes I had to see the Bethesda Fountain. Many of my adventures in NY were because of movies I've seen. Sadly when we got there we realized I couldn't walk down to the fountain. There was no handrail so I didn't feel safe with my knee. (Knee didn't hurt much during this trip)

Also I have a thing about having people in my photos. Not an easy task all the time. The ones that follow this one were taken by Mark. He went down to get photos under the bridge.

I love the birds on the wings....

Beautiful ceiling.....

A photo of the Essex House where we were staying.

The view from our window, isn't it amazing!

Isa Genzken's Two Orchids to New York City

We had room service on Wednesday Night.

Thursday:

Of course we had to visit Time Square and I needed to see the ball that drops on New Year's Eve. I have to say I wasn't impressed with the area. Very crowded and lots of construction going on. It was the one place we were approached by beggars and such. It was a bit scary.

We needed to get our bus tickets in Time Square.

The New Year's Ball!!

I imagine we went back to the hotel to get ready for our evening out. Had to visit Sardi's Restaurant. Famous people go there, especially actors from the theater's.

Of course we didn't see any but I've always wanted to see the caricatures on the walls. The meal was delicious. I hope to go back someday. We went there before our play "Book of Mormon."

Billy Crystal and of course Barry Manilow whom I love.

We thoroughly enjoyed the play.

Part two coming tomorrow.....
