WITH A LUMP IN MY THROAT......

......Adam has decided to call Pittsburgh his home!

He resigned from his job at Cedars Sinai here in LA. Friday October 23rd was his last day and that is when he stayed in town longer to spend time with us. Obviously having him come to town each month was perfect for me. It hardly felt like he moved 2, 393.5 miles away after Christmas last year. So I have some major adjusting to do....sigh!

He was thrilled when Cedars let him move to Pittsburgh and continue his job working from home and coming into the office in Beverly Hills one week each month. He had done that for 10 months and found that it just isn't for him. Basically that means that every three weeks he travels, is in the office for a week and misses out on two weekends at home with Tristen.

He decided to take some time off to explore his options as to whether or not he wants to stay in the field he has been in. He had been on the Ethics Board at UCLA for a few years before Cedars Sinai came to steal him away. These jobs fell into his lap but were never something he chose as a career. However they did provide a very comfortable life for him.
His resume is impeccable. He also worked at the University of California Berkeley for two years. We wish him all the best and are behind him 100%. Since they are financially stable with Tristen's new career at the University of Pittsburgh he is excited to see what lies ahead for him.

He has been taking some kind of online coding class and working on his cooking skills by having dinner ready for Tristen each night. Also brushing up on his bread baking skills. He is enjoying his time off right now and had a few months of vacation pay coming allowing him the time to explore his options.

The other thing at Cedar's was that he was no longer able to get promotions so now he could apply for the position above his if that is what he decides to do.

A little side note....when Adam was born he was what the nurses called "sunny side up" and it is rather funny that Mark's mom has always said "The sun is always shinning on Adam" especially when it came to Adam's career. He has been blessed and worked hard to be in his position. No doubt he will succeed in the future.

I don't know if I ever shared with you that Adam graduated from UC Santa Cruz with honors in Philosophy. I remember when our doctor asked me a few years ago what Adam was up to and I told him what he was doing and he said that the Ethics board was the perfect place for someone with his degree.

I am looking forward to Adam and Tristen coming to town for Christmas. They will be spending four nights with us starting on Christmas day!

It will be bittersweet when they leave because I don't know when we will see them again so I pray for long days ahead so I can soak in all that I can. I am well aware of my blessings and I am thankful that Adam is just an airplane ride away. I know how blessed we are.

i had wondered how he was able to spend so much time with you, still. that makes sense. i'm sure he'll find the right path for himself - as long as it has tristen beside him. :)

I know it is hard to have them so far away. Although we'd love it if our kids were in Wisconsin, we do see them a couple times a year even though they're a plane flight away. I'm grateful that we live in the age of Skype, texting, and cell phones. I hope you have very long days of your visits with them while they're here and that you can see them often after they move.

Good that you guys will have the time together over the holidays, Debby. I know Adam will do well and exceed no matter what position he gets next. It is indeed bittersweet though to know he's more than halfway across the country as opposed to coming back at least one week a month where you could see him. Who knows where you and Mark will end up when he retires; could be closer to Adam and Tristen :)

In the meantime, it is good that we have so many wonderful things with technology to keep in touch.

Oh Debbie - I do know how much you love having him there once a month. My son is gone too and I have to tell you that it does hurt. However, I know you have loving kids and he will be there to visit you - frequently. Maybe she will get pregnant and he will be Mr. Mom - that would be nice!

Awwww. So hard not being able to see the people we love more often when they re-locate. I hope that your Christmas will be packed full of every good thing. What an amazing son you have!

The one good thing is the world is smaller with social media & facetime & skype... just put it to good use.
You have to be proud, even though you dread the distance... what an amazing young man he is - brilliant! Good to see his knowledge put to good use

Wonderful to be flexible and not stuck on one path. Too many endure to get to the end rather than exploring the possibilities.

Well, with his resume he will have no trouble job hunting! I hope that you still get chances to see him frequently.

Your post sums up the bittersweet journey of being a mom, no matter how old our children are! Holding them close in our hearts forever, but sometimes having to let them go to the story of their own lives. Congratulations to Tristen's new career, and I just know that God has a *perfect* job for Adam. But, I also pray for your momma's heart. May God bring you comfort, 'cuz this is gonna be a tough one!!

GOD BLESS!

I know that will be hard to have him and Tristen so far away, but maybe you can go there to see him more often.

You and Adam will just have to plan lots of trips to visit each other! I know from first hand experience how hard moving away from family is!

That's wonderful news for him and also, I know, hard on a mom. My son tells me he and his girlfriend plan to move to Alaska in a few years and although I'm totally behind them on that, it's seems awfully far away!
