2. I ask this question every January, and I always get comments about how we shouldn't be banning words. This is fun and games so just play along : )
Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse, or just general uselessness (go here to read about how the words are chosen). Here's the list for 2026-
67 • demure • cooked • massive • incentivize • full stop • perfect • gift/gifted • my bad • reach out
Which one (if any) do you use most often? Which one of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word you think should have made the list?
I believe the only one I use is cooked. Like you said, I see no point in banishing any words.
3. What are your nightly rituals? Is that different from your 'ideal' nightly ritual? If so what's your ideal?
After we eat dinner we take showers. Marks works in the yard a lot and gets sweaty. It's nice going to bed clean. We will often watch a series on TV.
Then I go to my office and watch some of the movies I taped and then it's off to bed. I go to bed around 9 pm and Mark stays up until about 10:30. We have never had a TV in our bedroom which is really nice.
This is pretty normal but ideal is when we shower in the afternoon, even though we showered the night before, and we head over to Adam, Gabby and James house for the evening. We just did that last Friday night.
4. January 6th is/was National Bean Day. Do you like beans? Which one is your favorite? Last thing you ate made with beans?
I like black beans. I can't think of anything I ate recently with beans.
5. Are you easily embarrassed? Elaborate.
I believe I am when it comes to someone helping me up Adam's front steps. I can do the steps but he doesn't have a railing so I take his arm or Mark's and walk up the 3 brick stairs. I fell there once so I want to be careful.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I'm really struggling with my health and sometimes I just can't get over to read your posts. I do try.
Right now I am trying to take Christmas down and I've made good progress but still have the tree to do. I also need to go through my bins and see what I can get rid of. I already filled a few bags for the Salvation Army.
Thank you for understanding because right now I have some extreme pain going on. I hope to see my doctor soon. I do however have an ankle shot on Tuesday and I really need it.
Love you guys,
Debby

I agree, no need to banish any words. Some are annoying to hear but I think the worst of them will fade into the sunset. There are a lot of words from when I was growing up that no one says anymore.
You always get a pass on my blog. Focusing on your health and getting better is more important than leaving a comment
I'm so sorry that you are in pain so much, Debby. You're not alone in getting up/down stairs when there is no railing. I'm well-acquainted with that! Don't worry about not having the time or energy to visit blogs. I understand completely. May God bless you and yours in the New Year!
Hi Debby, I do know how it can be hard to ask for help ... I will be honest I can get embarrassed about it too. But I am getting better about it, because my family and friends want to help, I just need to accept it. ;-)
Keep us updated on your health.
Carla
the only one of the words to ban that I use, is perfect and I love the word and will continue to use it.. I use a lot of words from my very distant childhood.
sorry you are still fighting these health issues and pray now that 2026 will see a huge change to the better in all of your health issues.
Sorry to read about your extreme pain, Debby. That is so discouraging for you. It is nice that your loved ones lighten the emotional load for you. Hope you get relief soon.
I’m so sorry about your health problems and pain. Please don’t worry about commenting on my blog — thank you for keeping in touch by writing here. Love and prayers. ❤️
So sorry that depressing marks the past year. I know how challenging that can be. Praying that the year ahead will include many brighter, and hope filled, days!! Blessings to you -
I think its silly to ban words. I do know some words are overused but ... sometimes its the only word that fits the occasion.
So sorry that your pain is so bad. I pray that you can get the relief you need.
(((hugs)))

I'm sorry you're still having a lot of pain and hope you get relief soon. I'm about 90% there with the un-decorating. Still the resulting cleaning to do, but I'm taking my time. It's beautiful here today and hubs and I decided to go for a hike instead of working in the house. I'm glad : ) Take care Debby!
Hi Debby, family is the thing that gets us through the bad days. I just finished packing the ornaments on our Disney tree. I just love to see them and so does the family. I can't part with ornaments. Did you collect anything that you are parting with now? I did put up snowmen and snowflakes for winter. I know I plan to get some ornaments when I am in Israel.
I'm so sorry you're still experiencing those pain levels, Debby. Happy to hear that being surrounded by your loved ones buoys your spirits somewhat.
Your name's still right up there on my prayers list!
