Well not really, the Queen doesn't pick her own apples but I am sure you already knew that! But it certainly was apple buying time. So last Saturday we headed out on our adventure. Over the years we have found that we like the Rome Beauty apple from Los Rios Rancho at Oak Glen so that was our first destination. Lots and lots of apples to buy and as you can see there were a lot of jams, jellies and butters.

So we passed a place that we don't normally stop at and on their sign it said Honey Crisp Apples! Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding went the alarm in my head but I was afraid to say anything. Make this trip as short and sweet as possible to keep dh happy was running through my mind, along with keeping our daughter and son-in-law happy too!
See last year on Carmen's blog Mom to the Screaming Masses she mentioned Honey Crisp apples but I could never find them in the store. She recently had a post that said they are available again (above link) and I really wanted to find some.
So at lunch he asked me if there was anything else I wanted to do before we headed home since it was my day! (said sarcastically often on this trip) I said well I would really like it if we could stop and get those Honey Crisp apples at that other orchard. (that's were the raspberry vines were which are getting past pickin' time) Of course I got to listen to a comment about the fact that the other two bags of Rome Beauty apples were not enough! we needed more? No we didn't need more but I still wanted them. So them I got :)

The little green rooster and coaster followed us home too along with a few carmel apples! There was also a very beautiful Redwood tree there too!
So I have a lot of apples and I better get crackin' at some pies and some applesauce..........and in case you were wondering, I agree with Carmen, the Honey Crisp apple is very good.
New post over at Debby's Tree!
P.S. It was well over 100 degrees last Saturday.

I was once almost going to be a professional apple picker. Until I learned they were paid next to nothing and that put a massive stop to that. I don't mind being paid little if the weather is somewhat good (like when you go grape picking in the South of France), but if the weather is turning Dutch Autumn? No way!
When we lived in SC we had an apple orchard a few minutes away. We used to love going by there and getting fresh apple pies along with other things!
I wanted my hubs to go apple picking with me but he wasn't too interested. He said, "Can't we just go buy some?" Yes but I want to pick my own. I think I may go and do that this week...we have tons of orchards nearby and there is a site put together that lists all of them and the varieties they offer for picking.
Have a nice weekend and happy cooking!
honey crisp just sounds good.
Mmmm, I wonder if I can find those honey crisp apples here, sounds good....Christine
I've never been apple picking but it seems like it would be a fun fall outing.
You need to borrow my husband! He makes the BEST apple pies!
Oh, and thanks for the Skye puppy tip! I'm on my way there now! My granddaughter's name is Skye!
TAG!! You're IT!!

sounds like a fun adventure, Debby. Glad you decided to go for those honey crisps; never heard of them myself. We are googling to see where this place is, sounds like a great day trip!
betty
I love doing things like that. Now that I have a job, maybe my husband and I can enjoy things like this once again!
Oh, my goodness, 100 degrees just does not sound like apple picking weather! Good for you for getting outside and going to the apple orchards anyway!
Debby,
YUM!! Sounds delicious - I can smell those apples, and hear myself taking a big, crisp bite out of one!!
Thanks for sharing a fun day with me!
GOD BLESS!
It has been a while since our family has been to Oak Glen. I used to sell at the craft show on Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend.
I've been hearing nothing but good things about Honey Crisp apples. Tell me what makes them so special and where can I find some!!!
This is the second post that I've read that mentioned apple crisp. I'm starting to get hungry!!
Sounds like so much fun. I've never actually picked my own apples. Something to put on my list!
