....don't make me happy and little Miss Skye B. will agree with this fact!
So about six weeks ago Skye started to become itchy. Well if you remember, not to long ago, I talked about our troubles with gophers and bunnies. Then it dawned on me, back in our old house we never had issues with fleas until the year that opossum's starting showing up. I actually took my white Westie to the emergency vet one night because I didn't know a darn thing about fleas. I saw some dirt on her back and went to give her a bath. Well flea poop turns read and I thought she was bleeding! (yes I was pretty naive)
So anyway I had a light bulb moment where I realized that these creatures must be bringing fleas into our yard. Yes I was very angry at that thought. So I put flea medication on her but we never did find any fleas on her. We did end up finding one on my grand dog Charlie. Well Miss Skye B's itching didn't stop and she started hiding under the bed and couch. She has only done that when she has gotten in trouble. Everything else with her has been fine. No changes in her eating, body functions, playing or chasing lizards.
So I took her to the vet on Tuesday. What they figured out is the she is allergic to the flea bites. She doesn't have any fleas on her but just because you have medication on you doesn't mean they can't bite you. So the first step is to get the yard sprayed for fleas so she doesn't have to continue to get these flea bites. They gave her a steroid injections and we have some medication to give her if she is having a bad itching spell.
So far she is doing very well so the steroids helped. I have only given her the medication once so far. So hopefully after we spray the yard she will continue to get better. Now if we could find a way to get the bunnies to leave things would really be great. I really don't want them to have to be on flea medication if they don't have to!
Hope your having a good week. My Christmas trees arrived. I didn't expect them so soon and now I am totally nervous to look at them. God knows that I am my worst enemy when it comes to stress.

Skye is adorable!! :) Glad your trees came in!
oh, poor skye...
when I was little I once had fleas (or flea bites - a stray animal made it's way into my sandbox...)
Being allergic is probably worse than just the flea bites. I remember Mathilda would scratch herself to near baldness. After that I stayed on top of the anti-flea meds and fortunately never had any other strange creatures in my garden.
Give her a cuddle!
Poor Skye. Glad she's feeling better!
I despise fleas! In fact I have my yard treated for fleas on a regular basis because our neighbor has cats outside and they stay in our yard and on our front porch! Fleas are my sworn enemies!!! But I'd like to keep the neighbors :(
Just had to do the same thing my pup was so itchy I thought it was fleas but it is just her skin allergy acting up.....she started hiding too....also has separation anxiety so she hides if she thinks I'm leaving! Dogs! sure wish they could talk!

Glad everything turned out okay, bless their doggie hearts. You got some cute dogs!
So sorry about Skye! The fleas are really bad this year down here; the vet even has a notice in his office about it, to make sure people keep up with their flea treatments for their pets. Koda had the same problem last year with itching and being allergic to flea bites. He got this really expensive medicine to take daily for a few weeks and then he seemed to do okay; he still has his itching days but not like last year. Unfortunately he has fleas too; we never had them anywhere else we've lived with him, but San Diego county is known to have fleas :(
hope Skye feels better soon!
betty
ugh. We've never had to deal with fleas but my dog has an allergy that makes her itchy. The jingle of her collar when you're sleepy can make you a little crazy! The allergies are seasonal so I try to take the collar off when she's in an itchy phase.
Hope your pup is good as new soon!
poor thing! i have a little westie, too.
I'm glad she's doing better and darn those little rascals for bringing the littler rascals to bother your Skye!
I can't believe how dark Skye is! Has it been that long since I've been to your site that her coat has changed color?
Allergies to flea bites must be miserable for Skye :-( At least the flea meds will kill the fleas. :-)
my Mom's dog is also allergic to flea bites....the fleas are bad this year here in Texas...we have to spray frequently to try to keep them at bay...
I hate fleas! And the warmer climate you & I live in makes them much worse.
I had a dog with a flea allergy; he could get one bite and would scratch himself raw. Poor little guy, and poor Skye, I hope you're able to resolve the problem.
Hi Debby, So glad you found out about Sky's allergies to flea bites. I love not having to deal with them in Colorado, I sure don't miss fleas at all. Our puppy is almost 8 mos old and so much fun-although challenging at times too.
Have a great day!

Awww poor doggie. Glad things are looking better. Blessings to you all.
Poor Skye...so glad that the meds are working. I hate fleas!!! We had a Schnauzer (Max) years ago and the poor guy was miserable and so was I!
I so understand about stress Debby...I am exactly like you, my own worst enemy but I know that your new trees will be beautiful...they always are.
So glad that Skye is doing better. {{hug}}
Good luck getting rid of the fleas.
Good luck getting the fleas - don't you give them a monthly flea medication? We do here. I guess things are different from here to there!
What until you get back maybe to look at the trees. It will almost be time to start decorating them. I bet you are excited too.
Hope your pups feel better soon.
love, sandie
Christmas trees???? :)
Poor pup....the flea situation sounds tough. Hope everything you're doing works. Take gentle care Debby....
Yes, fleas are some of my least favorite animal friends, along with water bugs, spiders, and mice (inside the house, that is). I absolutely can't stand insects and rodents in the house, so I call the exterminator every quarter. I don't really like the chemicals, but I don't like the bugs, either.
Poor darling Skye. Fleas are horrid
