Volume 110
1. The popular saying, 'All is fair in love and war' is originally credited to English writer John Lyly. Is he right?
I think it depends on the situation. Not all things are fair.
2. Are you a cereal eater? What's your favorite kind?
2. Are you a cereal eater? What's your favorite kind?
I have always loved Fruit Loops and Frosted Shredded Wheat but as a cereal eater I like to each it as a snack without milk. Doing low carb now I have stayed away :(
3. A five year old in Pennsylvania was recently given a ten day school suspension for talking with a friend about shooting one another with a Hello Kitty Bubble gun (the gun blows bubbles). She did not have the gun with her at school.
A psychological evaluation was also ordered and the incident was recorded on her permanent record. The suspension was later reduced to two days and her parents are suing to have the incident removed from her file. Your thoughts? (If you missed the story click here for details).

I'm not sure about the permanent record stuff since she is only five but I would be concerned about where/why she came up with the idea. I would certainly have her go through therapy. Does being suspended really help anyone?
4. Whatever happened to________________?
Dry cottage cheese! Have you ever had it? We would use it with fruit dumplings back in the day. You would put it over the boiled fruit dumplings then topping that with butter and sugar.
5. January 23rd is National Handwriting Day, billed as a day to reacquaint yourself with a pen and pencil. Do you like your handwriting? Do you prefer to print or write in cursive? This date was chosen because its the birth date of John Hancock. What's the last thing you signed your name to?

The last thing I signed my name on today way a check today but I also signed it on several of those screens too while I was out shopping. I prefer to use cursive which I have heard they are not teaching anymore in some places which I think is sad. I do not care for my handwriting but I do send out thank you notes and they must be handwritten!
6. Speaking of John Hancock...ever been to Philadelphia? Do you have any desire to visit the city of Brotherly Love?
No I haven't been there and I would love to visit Philadelphia.
7. Share something funny you've heard a child say.
I cannot come up with anything and I just spent a few days with my nephews in Texas.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Had a wonderful family weekend in Houston, TX. Lots of laughing, eating and drinking. I have to admit I am exhausted and hopefully I will start catching up reading blogs soon. The three couples who flew all had issues going home. We all were scheduled within an hour or two of each other. We were about to eat lunch and my brother in laws phone rang and their flight to Chicago was cancelled but if they could go to the airport immediately they could get them on a flight through Dallas to Chicago. So we had to say goodbye to them a few hours early.
Then we headed to the airport around three with my sister in laws. On their flight the plane had to return to the gate for a smell they didn't recognize so they got home later than expected. Mark and I were sitting on a plane where the second engine wouldn't start. They had to call for repairs and tested it several times but after two hours they gave up and we got off the plane. Then they had to find another plane to get us home. So about 3 1/2 hours later we were on our way. Then we arrived in Ontario, CA and they were unable to get the jetway to work and had to call maintenance, however we did get home safe but I'm not sure how sound we were!

Your issue with the airplane sounds a lot like what happened to Chris on Monday. He flew out of ATL to Chicago, but when he boarded the plane, the warning light in the cockpit came on and they had to de-plane. Chris said his flight was delayed a couple of hours. So frustrating, but I would much rather them have taken care of the issue than to risk it. So glad you had fun with your family!
Glad you had a nice visit and are safely home!
I have never heard of dry cottage cheese. I am trying to picture it, but cant.
Glad youre safely home!
As children, we played war and cowboys all the time......we made wooden guns or just shot with our fingers. Not one of us have ever shot a person. I think sometimes too much is made of play and it becomes evil in the mind of a child thus planting a seed. In my own mind ignoring might have stopped the entire thought process for that child. That and a little less exposure on t.v. to all the violent events happening in the world and country. They see the same scenes over and over and if we as adults can't get that horror out of our minds, what's a small child to do with them? Jumping off my soapbox now!
I'm so glad you had a good time on your trio!
Gotta love Fruit Loops!
Dried cottage cheese, eh? Never heard of it. I think the Hello Kitty bubble blowing thing was blown way out of proportion....I think I would enjoy 'blowing' bubbles with it at my grandchildren. LOL Glad you made it home safely!
What in the world is going on with all the flight problems? My nerves would have been more than a little frazzled!
Glad to hear that you had a nice trip and made it home safely :)
Dry cottage cheese? What?!?!? I've never heard of that before
Glad you got home safely after all of that! I don't like to fly to start so that may have frazzled me a bit ;)
Now I know why I don't like flying. Glad you finally made it home.
Oh this was a good one. No not everything is fair in love and war that's for sure. On the subject of handwriting – they do not teach handwriting anymore in an elementary school. I guess they feel that with computers it's unnecessary. Sad but true. Glad you're back home and glad you had a good time. I hope you have a great day. sandie
I'm so glad to have you home what an ordeal with the plane :(.
Oh how I miss snacking on cereal also!
Glad you made it home, but I have to say that would have scared me to death. Glad you did have a great time in Texas though.
Now I want to try dry cottage cheese. I've never even heard of it!
Dry cottage cheese… ewww!
If you ever come to Philadelphia, look me up. I live about 45 mins away.
My husband is Hungarian and some recipes call for dry cottage cheese...I have never seen it, so I have never been able to try them out.
Isn't it exhausting to be delayed, juggled around and arriving late when flying!?
It is sad they don't teach handwriting any more; even with computers, you'd think there would be opportunities to have nice writing, like you said for thank you letters, invitations, etc. Something neat about getting a hand written address rather than a computer generated label.
Glad you guys finally made it back home, Debby. It does sound like an ordeal!
betty
Glad you made it home all safe and sound.
My cereal... Life and Grape Nuts! Love them both.
I've never even heard of dry cottage cheese. But I just got a craving for cereal - I have grape nuts and honey nut cheerios at the moment.
Because of my carpal tunnel problems I have terrible handwriting and it hurts me to write (even though I have to take notes on all my patients), so I won't be participating in National Handwriting Day!
Oh my goodness! So glad to hear you all got home safe and sound. I hate to hear about flight troubles :(
And dry cottage cheese? Never heard of it!
gLAD YOU HAD A WONERFUL TIME...VERY HAPPY YOU MADE IT SAFELY.
Glad you made it home ok (but hearing those stories has reminded me why we prefer to drive - ha!).
Hi Debby...love these hodge podge q and a's....
Handwriting day???? never heard of it and with computers I have to admit...I rarely write by hand anymore. And spell check it messing up my ability to spell.....Have a great weekend out there.
Debbie, so fun learning more about you. Definitely curious about dry cottage cheese. Hmmmm...
Off to enjoy a bowl of Froot Loops now. You totally kicked my craving into high gear!
Jenn
The boys have not done a lot of "cursive" training in school. I was just having a conversation today with my Mother about the fact that I get cramped up now when trying to write with a pen and my hand writing is atrocious. I've never heard of Dry Cheese Curd. I have though had mozzarella curd on poutine.
I don't even want to hear the term "maintenance problems" when I fly - it makes me nervous. I also don't like to fly during the winter months because there always seems to be more turbulance during cold weather. I'm not a good flier, OBVIOUSLY! Glad you are home and safely on the ground!
