The angle of this photo makes this table look long but it's not. This is our kitchen table which is about 32 x 60. I decided to set up Easter dinner in the kitchen.
The three of us sitting in the dining room just would have made me feel sad, missing Adam and Tristen.
I made a beer bread and the reason this came about was because of bowling last Thursday. They gave out free drink tickets for customer appreciation day.
Some of the girls were taking home a dark ale beer (because who wants to drink at 9:00 am) so I got one too. When I brought it to the table Kendra said they make a great tasting beer bread.
I knew Amber had beer breads on sale at the Hallmark store so that's how we ended up with beer bread on Easter Sunday. It certainly is not a tradition of ours. I knew you couldn't go the rest of your day without know this important fact!
The Prime Rib was perfect and I will be enjoying the leftovers all week long. Mark is on his way to Brazil today.
Mark wanted baked potatoes this year so that's what we had. I also baked a few sweet potatoes for me. I like them reheated. Of course we had sour cream and shredded cheese too because that's how we like our baked potatoes.
This was my plate. I didn't really take that much of everything but got full really fast. As you can see we had green bean casserole, corn, deviled eggs and olives too. Since Amber doesn't eat meat I like to have several other items available for her to eat.
Amber bought Skye and Charlie Easter toys but the snake she bought for Skye was the big hit. They actually played tug of war for quite awhile.
Yum!
So parts of this snake are already torn apart and she has taken out a few squeaker's too!
I'm going to share a little bit of my heart here. My children were not raised in a church environment like I was. Of course they have been to random church services over the years but nothing on a regular basis. Amber did join a youth group when I starting attending a church back in the 90's. I know that she is a believer and that she talks to God.
Adam was never very interested. I did however at one point leave a little brochure out about God and on the back of it it said "If you want to take God into your heart read this prayer." One day he said to me "I did that mom" and that was all I needed to hear. I knew God would watch over him. Adam graduated with Honors in Philosophy.
They would of course get Easter outfits each year because we would visit with family. We have always had the tradition of an Easter dinner. Before my aunt and uncle here in California passed away we would always go to their house on Easter for dinner. My children knew that Easter was about the resurrection of Jesus.
The church I was attending here in California for probably 14 years was awesome. Every year on Easter, several times during the service, the pastor would say "He has Risen" and we would respond "He has Risen Indeed!
So Adam remembers me always saying that when I returned home from church so it warms my heart when on Easter he says to me "He has Risen" and I of course respond "He has Risen Indeed!" So yesterday when I received the "He has Risen" text I have to say that it really made my day.

Nice story about your son. He is risen indeed!
Debby, You know that we have many similarities in our background, including this. Although once my girls were in jr.high, we attended church every Sunday and once during the week. Glad to hear this story and your son's response yesterday.
Have a good week while hubby is away.
Hugs, Noreen
i think religion can be such a good framework or platform for children to grow into. however, i'm also a big proponent of just living a good life. i think you've instilled good judgement and kindness in your children and that is what is most important. :)
What great thoughts are here today. Glad you had a nice Easter celebration with your family.
There is nothing that brings more joy than knowing that your children believe and follow Christ. I so enjoyed this post.
I understand about you preferring the smaller kitchen table when family members are absent. Your meal looks delicious and how great to have leftovers to last the week. I know you are proud of your children and I pray that God will lead them and walk with them daily. HOpe you have a good night.
Beautiful story...melted my heart today.
Hugs,
Trisha
Makes your heart feel good.
Went to see DO YOU BELIEVE – Oh man you have not seen it you have to go see it – the best Christian movie ever!
First off your dinner looked delicious! I know it's hard to adjust to family members not being able to be there so I get that too. Your story about your son warms my heart! Nothing better for a mother to know that her children belong to Him! Praise God He is risen indeed! Enjoy your week!
Good to know that you feel your kids are in the right place with God. That they believe! I need to try beer bread, never have.
That was so sweet with the text you got from Adam, Debby. It is gratifying when they "get" it. Food looked delicious! It is hard when you are missing two of your family. We've now made it through the major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter) that we haven't celebrated with son like in previous years. Tried not to be too melancholy about it all :)
betty
What a sweet post! He is risen, indeed! Your plate looks yummy.... I worked Sunday and we didn't have an Easter meal. Maybe later this week?
Love the story about the text message, and glad you shared it. your plate is beautiful, Bob would eat everything on it but not the sweet potato, i would eat all except not the prime rib. we always have to many carbs on holidays. the beer bread looks so good.
both of my sons always came for Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July and Easter. but have not had a dinner with either since June of 06...
The story about the text just warms my heart. So sweet.
That was one great looking Easter dinner! The story you shared at the end, was so sweet. That was the perfect Easter text :)
Thanks for sharing your heart....our pastor did that twice on Sunday and others during the Sunday School time and walking from one service to another...My son sent me a text like that, too.....It was just the two of us on Sunday and I did make dinner but not what we usually have...hope you have a good week.

What you shared just gave me goosebumps, Debby. It goes to prove that one seed planted is all you need for it to take root. So glad Adam's text made your heart happy...it would have mine, too!
There is nothing better than traditions as sweet as that saying to each other on Easter. He is risen indeed!
That meal looked amazing and I loved everything you had. My stepmom makes a beer bread all the time and its so delicious!
That is a really precious story about your son : )
That Looks like a perfect Easter meal!!! Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your life. I love that Adam sent text!
