Yesterday Mark and I were sitting in the show waiting for Furious 7 to start and I heard my phone vibrate. I went ahead and looked at it because the coming attractions hadn't even started yet. It was a text from Tristen sharing a photo of the front door from inside their rental house.
They had just experience their first thunderstorm and a tree fell! They thought for a minute that it could have been a tornado. Obviously it scared them and thankfully they were not hurt. Also it didn't hit their car which is also a blessing.
These two photo were sent by Adam which we saw after we got out of the movie.
I'm not sure if I shared that they only rented this house for 4 months. April is there last month and they just found an awesome loft apartment to rent. Of course the move is supposed to happen this weekend so the tree blocking the front door is a bit of an issue. Tristen said they will just have to work around it.
I planned on sharing a link to their new place in a post so with the tree falling it has given me the perfect opportunity to blog about it. Two weeks ago they spent a lot of time looking around Pittsburgh at different rentals.
They are not quite ready to buy a house yet because they want to explore what Pittsburgh has to over. Also after experiencing their first Winter they are not quite ready to have those responsibilities yet.
They seem to like the freedom to come and go without having to shovel or take care of a lawn. On top of that they still have their awesome condo in L.A. that needs to be set up as a rental.
I have noticed that they really like living in an area that has a lot to offer. You can walk to awesome restaurants, unique stores and grocery stores like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods! This place seems to fit that bill beside being close to the university.
It is called Shadyside Commons which is a converted former hardware business warehouse. If you have a minute I think you might enjoy looking at some of the photos in the link.
"Shadyside provides an exceptional combination of urban amenities in a relaxing residential environment. These apartments near the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC-Shadyside, and Carnegie Mellon offer easy access to the city’s parks, shopping, and restaurants, in the coveted residential neighborhood of Shadyside."
They rented a one bedroom 1 1/2 bath apartment. The bedroom and full bath is up in the loft using the spiral staircase. There is also a wall of brick which of course adds a lot of character to a place. I'm so excited for them and can't wait to visit!

yikes! but they got lucky - twice! good luck to them and the move!
I looked at the apartments they are very nice. I do understand not wanting to take on a yard to cut when you can live someplace like this. They should really enjoy it.
so glad that tree caused no damage to house or car.. and i have always thought i would like a loft... living where they can walk saves a lot of money... going over to check out the place they are moving.
i really really like that loft, what a beautiful place.
SO glad there were no injuries to them, car or house!!
Whew that tree! Glad they found a good place to live. And I did see Fast and Furious - a little too fast and furious for me.
That tree thing must have been pretty scary. Glad they are okay.
WOW! How scary is that?! Gives truth to the saying, "Too close for comfort!"
Sounds like Tristen and Adam are enjoying the lifestyle of adventure! Wishing them lots of fun as they explore!
GOD BLESS!
So thankful with you that there was no damage to them or their car. I think the loft is a great idea and who wants to be tied down to yard work before they have their own house? I'm thinking right now I would enjoy being free from that myself.
Thankful they are safe and that the car was not damaged. Congrats on their new loft and best wishes with the move.
Oh wow, that was a big tree that fell! I think it was wise for them to rent first and get a "feel" for the area before they buy. It does sound like they found a great one too1
betty
glad they are ok…
That is some tree! They were indeed very lucky that it didn't do more damage and is only a nuisance to 'work around' while moving.
That's crazy! They are smart to look for something with yard maintenance and snow removal. It's such a hassle when you have busy schedules. It's the only thing I miss about apartment living. And at our last rental home our landlord did do the mowing, but he also owned the empty lot next to us and he was particular. Didn't bother us one bit!
Wow, that's a big tree! Glad no one was hurt.
Wow how scary! Hope they love their new place!
Chainsaw anyone? Hopefully the tree will be moved so they can. Smart idea, IMHO, to rent an aparment to have time to really get a feel for the city and where they'd like to live longer term. I love Pittsburgh. Its dirty, industrial days are over. I loved driving into Pittsburgh from the west and coming out of that tunnel into the beautiful city.

OH my gosh!!! I'm so happy it didn't hit the car or them! How scary!
I'm so glad they found a place they like, probably good thing to rent since they are still young and no kids. Easy for them to come and go :)
