Update on Skye's ear infection. Her infection was all cleared up two weeks ago. We are going day to day with it, cleaning it out once a week and watching her diet. She was also put on Advantage because of her allergy to flea bites. She does not have fleas, we never have flea issues but because of wild animals fleas can still be around to bite. Dermatologist's recommend Advantage for dogs with flea allergies.
Her allergy tests showed that she is allergic to many outside allergies, some are not even in our area. For that they recommend making a serum and getting her desensitized. That is a huge expense, daily shots for 3 months, then going to shots every month and eventually every few months for the rest of her life. There are no guarantees that it will work.
The food allergies are Lamb, Pork, Soybean, Corn and Turkey. The allergy runs on a scale of 1 to 6. The foods ran from a one to a 3 which was Lamb. If dogs are going to pick up a food allergy it will often be to something they have been eating for years.
Skye was on Purina Pro Plan Lamb for years until I started changing her diet about 4 months ago. Of course I didn't know about any of the food allergies in changing her diet. I was just going a grain free route. She actually stopped scratching her body after I started her on a new food about six weeks ago. Thankfully none of the above food items are in the food I bought her and she can stay on it. You can't believe when you start reading ingredients how many of them have those items in them!
So the most allergic item on the tests was fleas which was a number 5. So hopefully with her diet, keeping her away from those food items, using the advantage and an antihistamine when needed we can keep the ear infection under control.
We had a great time in Arizona last weekend. Michele and Pam are great hosts. We enjoyed each others company immensely. We never did get outside into the pool. We spent most of our time around the kitchen table talking, eating, drinking and laughing a lot. Had some very heavy conversations too. I brought my camera and never took a picture but I did get a few on my phone.
Their dog Stanley....
We did end up going out for dinner on Sunday and had some amazing Mexican Food. This trip was exactly what I needed. Thank you Michele and Pam for a wonderful weekend. We love you both so much!

I am so glad you had a good trip
Give Skye a hug from me
good news that Sky is better, absolutely adorable in these pics and glad the food change is helping.. also good news you are home safe and sound and had a good time.
stanley is precious! glad skye is doing better. my thelma jean deals with a chronic ear infection. we've tried several meds. one mixture sort of keeps it under control, but the vet didn't recommend doing the allergy/food testing route as it could be expensive, drawn-out and because she's a country dog exposed to so many things in the environment, we might never rule out the source. i do keep them on flea/tick treatments, though.
I'm so glad you had a great trip. Glad Skye is doing better too!
Wine and Mexican food with girlfriends equals a great weekend !!!
Skye! What a darling dog! I hope the measures you've taken give her (and you) some relief from her issues. I put my GSD (RIP) on grain-free because he was so frequently making hot spots. They cleared up and he didn't have trouble with it after that. My little dog's chronic ear problems cleared up when I took her off wheat and corn. It's amazing what detectives we have to be, but so worth it to see our sweet pets get relief and comfort.
So glad you had such a nice time with Michelle and Pam. Sounds like the perfect prescription. Hope you have a nice weekend, Debby.
Glad you got some answers about Skye and her allergies, hoping the treatment works. Sounds like lots of fun with your weekend away.

It sounds like you had a good trip. I found your Skye post interesting... one of my dogs is an itcher. We've never had him tested for allergies, but we did switch his food , which made a huge difference. We are using something with venison in it; grain free. Are you going to do the allergy shots for Skye?
Your trip sounds like fun. Really didn't know anything about the allergy problems animals can have. It's good you got it taken care of.
Hi there, Your trip sounded wonderful, such fun when good friends gather! Poor Skye! I am glad you are doing the allergy injections-never heard of a dog getting them. I can tell you that I got them for close to 20 yrs and when you start with one allergy that you are treated for, another one can occur...so the cycle continues. I give Hunter a grain free food and he seems to enjoy it, but so prefers eating the chicken I cook for him, or the bison and beef.
Hope Skye's itching stops. I've noticed Hunter scratching his ears more than normal this year-maybe due to the rain we got and grass growing like crazy.
Hugs,
Noreen
Glad you had a nice trip and that Skye is doing better.
Glad you are back - glad you had a nice time. And wow - allergy shots for dogs - I never ever knew they had them - I sure hope it helps.
Kitchen tables can be the most important piece of furniture in the house. It invites openness for some reason.
Glad the ear got cleared up. One of my cats (Mathilda) was allergic to fleas as well and when she would only get one: the scratching was incredible. She would have bald patches all over and was a real sorry sight. Once I started with the flea-stuff, she was fine. A real reminder not to forget!
I hope Skye will be just fine.
I enjoyed Stanley's photo and happy you had a nice trip.
Poor Skye :( I hope all the test and everything work.
The trip sounds like a great time away. I take sitting around talking and drinking and eating any day :)
That's a lot of allergies, poor pup!
At first, I thought the wine bottles went with the breakfast caption. :)
