Murphy's Law:
Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
This happened the morning we were leaving to go out of town.
Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
This happened the morning we were leaving to go out of town.
Getting ready for our flight Mark took his shower and about a 1/2 hour later I took my shower which happened to be a bit on the chilly side. So Mark went into the garage to check our hot water heater. For some reason it decided to stop running.
Now I know you are going to think this is crazy because Dylan and Amber have filed for divorce but we asked him if he would stay here with Amber while we were gone. She has been having a difficult time with her emotions.
They are together several times a week anyway, he stays here several times a week and are always seeing each other so it wasn't a big deal to us to have him stay here. He is still our son in law and we do love him.
Anyway back to the story....the heater would not light. There is a button you can press to get the electronic ignition to light.
So we woke them up because I thought maybe Amber would want to get her shower in before the water gets too cold. We also found out that Dylan was going to be around so we could call for a repair.
Luckily it did light before we left so they had warm water and were able to continue to light it after that. We called to make an appointment but they never called back and we had a flight to catch.
I will try to make this short. They decided not to have anyone out because they just got up earlier to light it before they showered. Mark set up an appointment for Monday when we would be home from our trip.
In the meantime my dad talked to them a few times and apparently on Sunday my dad told Dylan to go out and bang on the heater a little bit. Sometimes there is carbon which needs to be loosened. Anyway he did it and the water heater has been working ever since.
So the repair man did came out but at this point and time we don't need a repair. We hope it stays this way because we are not looking forward to buying a new water heater for $2,000! You can have them only repair the ignition part of the water heater but it is $400. and has no guarantee at all because it doesn't always work.
The water heater is only 9 years old and it is a good one. The one in our last house lasted 17 years and even then we never replaced it because we moved.
One thing we know for sure is that our heater gets drained daily because of Amber. Longest showers ever and usually two a day! We never have to drain it for sediment buildup because of her.
Murphy's Law never fails to show up at the most inappropriate time....

wow, so glad you did not have to replace it.
Do you have high water bills, Debby, with Amber's showers? I know when we lived in Murrieta that was the highest we paid for water with anywhere we lived; close to $300 a month sometimes. When son's girlfriend was living with us for a bit, they both took 2 shows a day, long ones. We got that reduced, LOL.
Glad you didn't have to replace it; those can indeed be costly repairs!
betty
I'm sorry you have had a mess of it. I'm also sorry for their impending divorce. That is always hard.
Hope you have a good trip and can relax.
I'm glad you haven't discounted your SIL & know you still love him - even in the middle of hard times.
I hate it - but it does seem like everything bad happens at the worst times (like there's a good time for them - haha)
Glad it's working for you right now. Hope it will keep on!
I will have to tell Rick next time to ban on things - lol. Kelly takes a long long long shower too and now so does Andy - our water bills are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$~!
Whew for you!
Our water heater - together with 3 others in our development passed away last year ... at just 10 y/o. I don't think they're manufacturing appliances to last like they used to.
Oh boy. I do know what you mean. It seems to be always something.
Sending a HUG!
Carla
