Volume 264
As always....thank you Joyce!
1. This is the last Hodgepodge in April. Share something you learned this month.
Each day is a challenge, life happens so you must take time for yourself whenever possible.
2. It's National Poetry Month, and we all know you can't escape an April Hodgepodge without a little poetry. Keeping the first line as is, change the rest of the wording in this familiar rhyme to make it your own - 'Hickory Dickory Dock...
I must go find my frock
It is time for me to go
Before I miss the show
Hickory Dickory Dock
3. What were one or two rules in the home you grew up in? Growing up, did you feel your parents were strict? Looking back do you still see it that way?
I don't remember any rules. My parents were not strict. I don't have a lot of memories of my early life but the memories I have are from my early teen years. My father worked nights at the movie theater he managed.
My mother was depressed and I believe she was drinking so she was not very social. No one pushed me to do homework or anything. They were lucky, we were good kids! The only reason I made it through school is because the teacher's liked me and didn't have the heart not to pass me.
I do remember church being a very important part of my parents life yet no one talked about God in the house. However I do have fond memories of church and the pastor always coming over to visit with my dad.
4. Tell us about a kitchen or cooking disaster or mishap you've experienced. Do you have many from which to choose?
I do remember when Mark and I were traveling once and I burned popcorn in our cabin. It was a horrible smell that would not leave!
Last year I had two experiences with boiling eggs until the water was gone and the eggs exploded. Needless to say I never ever leave the kitchen now when I hard boil eggs!
5. Plant a kiss, plant doubt, plant a tree, plant yourself somewhere...which on the list have you most recently planted?
I'll go with "plant a kiss."
6. What's your most worn item of clothing this time of year? Are you tired of it?
I can't come up with anything other than a sweater I wear around the house when I feel chilled and yes I am tired of it. This has been our chillest year yet and actually the heat turned on this morning!!!
7. I'm wrapping up the A-Z Blog Challenge this month and our Hodgepodge lands on letter W. What's one word beginning with W that describes you in some way? How about a word to describe your home, also beginning with W?
Me - Worrier
Home - Wonderful
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Thought this was funny.....

my W is OMW as in i am the queen of Worrier, but i call it fretting. my fretter is gigantic.. i worry and fret over everything that happens, what might happen, IF it will happen, when it does happen what will i do... i drive my self insane.
my home life was strict with a capital S.. the list of no's was very long, no card games, no movies on Sunday, no dancing, no parties... daddy was king and we did what he said when he said and how he said.
Love the Mona Lisa portrait! LOL Wow, that egg incident would put me off eggs for a looooong time. Don't you hate it when those things happen. Anyway, I hope you have a good Wednesday, Debby. Company expected here any minute.
Hello, fellow worrier! I'm right there with ya'.
Burnt popcorn smells horrible! Been there, done that, too.
I've never had a boiled egg explode, but I'll bet that's a nasty mess.
I love your random thought :)

Oh dear the boiled egg thing sounds awful. Hope it wasn't too messy. I hope you don't have too much worrying to do either.
OMGosh I love Monday Lisa! That is my normal hair working from home ... lol
Oh my, the hard boiled eggs. LOL!!
I like Mona Lisa on Monday. :-)

How funny! We both used the word frock in our poems. Yes, your parents were very fortunate that you were good kids. I guess your love of movies comes from your dad's job. The hard boiled eggs must have been a mess. Yuck. They probably smelled the house up a bit too.
I love your frankness about your childhood. Burnt popcorn is a bad smell! Been there, done it.
Monday Lisa hehehehehehehehehehehehe.....
My most memorable kitchen disaster is from the first time I tried to cook lunch all by myself. My brother and I had a half day of school for the first time after my mom went back to full-time work. I made" peanut butter and jelly soup." Honestly if I put my mind to it I could probably make pretty good soup with peanut butter and jelly now. But when I was seven years old I used peanut butter, grape jelly and chicken broth. It was NOT good soup! The soup pan in the sink made for interesting conversation when mom got home.
Oh, after trying the soup, my brother and I had a can of Campbell's soup for lunch.
I have to set a timer now when I boil eggs, LOL. Forgot them a few times and all the water boiled out. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has happened to.
I would go with W for Worrier too.
Monday Lisa is a great one!
betty
you made me smile
Love the Mona Lisa pic. I may borrow it if it is okay. My parents were not strict. And I tried to boil oil once - it never boiled - put the chicken in - and almost set the house on fire.
Haha, that is funny! I am a worrier too although I try not to be. Burnt popcorn stinks. Hope you get warmer weather soon :)
Proud "Worrier" sorority sister, checking in! Heck, at this stage in life I figure I won't be changing so I may as well embrace the angst. :)
Your story of the exploding eggs makes me feel a teeny bit better about DH's own episode. Ah, that aroma!
I used to worry a lot... Prozac helps that. LOL I wish I could remember a lot more about my childhood. I do remember that snacks were off limits... we had to ask permission to have a snack (it was a money thing, I'm sure). I guess that's why I over indulge now that I'm an adult. ;)
HA!! Monday Lisa looks like me on most days.
I just love the Mona Lisa : ) I feel like that's been me this month. whew! So much going on here, and I'm just barely managing to blog. Burnt popcorn is the worst! That smell lingers a long long time! Hope you have a great weekend!
Your Monday Lisa is hilarious!
oh, monday lisa was hilarious. glad you managed okay as a kid. dry-boiled eggs - yuck! been there; done that!
Like you, I can no longer leave the kitchen when boiling eggs. I will never forget a dozen exploded eggs on my ceiling walls and floors...not easy to clean! Happy weekend!
I wonder if your love of movies has anything to do with your father's job? That would have been great! Love your rhyme. It's not been cold here since last winter and it wasn't that cold then. I'm sick of this. I like winter and I feel cheated. LOL Yesterday, it was 90. 90! Time for me to stay in the house!
Monday Lisa - yeah, I feel your pain...
