1. We're approaching Memorial Day Weekend in the US of A...will you mark this in some way? If so tell us how. According to a list found here some things you might do in honor of Memorial Day would be-shop in a Veteran owned business, learn to play a patriotic song, watch the Memorial Day concert, take a virtual tour of the White House, write a letter to a soldier or a soldier's family, fly a flag, attend a Memorial Day parade, donate flowers for a soldier's grave, put together a care package for a soldier, and take a moment of silence at 3 PM (the National Moment of Remembrance)....of the ideas mentioned are there any you will try?
Those are beautiful ideas. I have some small flags that I put out in front of the house.
Here is a photo which I love. (I did not take it)
2. What's something recently that made you 'come to attention'?
Leave well enough alone!!
Mark had painted our bedroom about 2 months ago and left an old vacuum cleaner next to his counter in our bathroom area. It should have gone back into the garage. I kept seeing the handle sticking out and was afraid I was going bump into it. So I turned it around so the handle was against the wall.
Next day I stubbed my toe on the front of the vacuum cleaner. Why did I have to move it? Some of you already know this from Facebook but I was in the ER on Monday morning, the pain was unbearable. Now I tell you this because I have never yet gone to the ER without showering, doing my hair and putting on make-up, all I wanted was to be free of the pain.
I'm going to continue this story on Friday. It was starting to get long with details about this ankle. I'm okay, got pain pills, a few instructions and hopefully it will get better soon. My main concern was my Achilles tendon because that is where the pain is. I've never had pain there before and thankfully I didn't tear it.
3. In what area of your life do you need to 'soldier on'?
As you already know I need to 'soldier on' in many areas in my life but mainly decluttering the house!
4. As a long weekend approaches and summer draws near, what's a favorite food from your childhood you think about adding to the menu?
I always enjoyed hot dogs at picnics when I was a kid and I liked watermelon too! I'm not planning on adding it to a menu but we do have hot dogs from time to time. Actually I think we are going to Adam and Gabby's so I'm not sure about the menu but I am always asked to bring my onion dip.
Here's a picnic photo from the 50's. That's my dad, my sister Darcy to the left of him and I'm looking at the camera. I can see that my mom dressed us alike! I'm guessing it was a church picnic. I know the boy across from my dad was a neighbor of ours. Not sure about the other kids.
5. Your favorite patriotic movie?
I love.... Independence Day, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan and Hidden Figures. These are movies I could watch over and over again.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Our Bougainvilleas are looking beautiful.

So sorry about your foot. Sometimes the simplest things hurt so much it's unbelievable.
Love the bougainvillea.
Years ago when I was married to my ex husband we would plant our garden on memorial day weekend. I haven't planted one in years though and Memorial day is pretty much just another day for me any more.
So sorry about your foot, hope you're better soon.
That bougainvillea is beautiful.
Sorry to hear about your foot, I hope it's better soon. I love the old picnic photo and your bougainvillea is gorgeous!
What a fright, that vacuum cleaner incident! I can so relate to what you said about not seeking medical attention without first fixing my hair and face.
Uh-oh. I hadn't given any thought to our Memorial Day menu. Tom likes hot dogs, but hasn't found anything to compare to what he used to get in Chicago.
PS - I'm glad to know someone else said 'Saving Private Ryan'!
Sorry about your foot, hope you feel well soon.
I enjoyed the photos of your home. The bougainvillea is lovely.
Oooooh Debby, that picture of the picnic from the 50s!!! That brought back so many memories for me. My family on my mom's side used to gather for a picnic every summer and I still remember them well. The scene was just like the one you pictured here. How I miss those days and all the people who attended... most long gone now. I just told my cousin (the daughter of my godmother who recently died) that we should have a family reunion picnic again. I wonder if she'll agree. ~Andrea xoxoxo
Hidden Figures was an amazing movie.
Your flowers are just gorgeous!
Hope your foot is better. That sounds like something I would do. :)
We aren't going to do anything special for this holiday except put our flag out. No picnics or get togethers..family is away on business and Dave and I have to pretty much stay put..but that's fine with me. Too many crazys out on the road.

I fly the flag every day. Your plants around your house are GORGEOUS! I love them.
I am so sorry about your feet and toe. Seems that it is always something isn't it?
Happy Memorial day.
Ouch with your toe and foot! Hoping it feels better soon!
What a cute picture of you growing up at a picnic! Times were so different then, weren't they?
You had a great list of movies that were patriotic. Of those you listed Independence Day is my favorite.
Beautiful plants by your house!
Have a great 3 day weekend!

I love that childhood photo! Such a different time, and I miss the innocence of a pre-internet world. I hope your foot is better every day. Your flowers are stunning!
I'm so sorry about your foot. Ugghh...I feel you there. I'm a klutz, and I'm forever running into something, tripping, you name it. It's a wonder I haven't broken anything. Your flowers are beautiful. Visiting from Hodgepodge wednesday
Sorry to hear about your foot.
I like all of your pictures.
I also like Saving Private Ryan.
Hope you and yours enjoy Memorial Day.

So, the vacuum cleaner just jumped out and bit you? Yikes! Seriously, I hope things heal quickly.
Love the bougie!
