WANT TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU

As you know I have had trouble keeping up with reading blogs. For some reason I get very stressed while doing that. I'm sure it's part of the Covid pandemic lock down syndrome. Because of that I can't read too many each day but I'm trying the best I can.

I currently have some family issues going on that are taking my time and my energy. I thought my anxiety was bad enough already and this has put me over the edge. Thankfully I have a very low dose anxiety pill I can use although I try not to take them often. I find myself grinding my teeth all day long!

My brother is 74 and we noticed about six weeks ago that he was sounding funny on the phone. Not himself at all. My niece thought that maybe he had a stroke. He and I email several times each day and his emails become impossible to read. His fingers were not in the right place. Then one day he sent me an email at 9:30 in the morning saying that he just had his dinner and would be going to bed in a few hours.

I have asked him to please go see his doctor or go to the ER. He said he is fine! Then I got some normal emails and I thought he was better. Well he apparently fell and hit his head last weekend and was taken to the hospital according to the maintenance man in his building. Could not get information from the hospital, fire department or the police. I had no communication with him in several days.

The police did go and do a well check but there was no answer and without anyone in the office at the building they could not enter his apartment. Then the next day I talked to the police department trying to find out where he was taken by ambulance. They had no record of a call at the building. I asked if I could file a missing person report on him and they told me I couldn't because the maintenance man saw him so he's not missing.

I don't know where he fell and only that he was seen being taken away. He had no identification on him. I even wonder if he was robbed in his parking lot.

Finally my niece was able to weasel out some information from someone at the fire department. We found out where he was and I've been in contact with them and his social worker. Lot's of future decisions to be made. He did ask if anyone would be able to live with him if he can't be alone. That is not possible as I am not able to take care of anyone with my COPD.

They have filled out a Certificate of Incapability which means he is not able to make decisions for himself at this time. So I have a lot of calls to make and will be on the phone a lot until we know what's happening. I need to call his attorney and hopefully he will be able to help me with this.

Your prayers are welcomed. Honestly I thought he was dead on the floor in his apartment for several days. Thankfully we found him.

So sorry for all the troubles with your uncle. He is very lucky to have you to look out for him. I hope it is relatively easy to get things figured out so that he can be properly taken care of.

I am so sorry about your brother and sorry you are having to going through this Debby. I sure hope you find some solutions soon. In the meantime take the anxiety pills if they help you. This kind of stuff is enough to send anyone's anxiety through the roof!

Debby, this is just awful! I don't know what to say, but (that) I'm holding him and you in my prayers. When you can, please let us know how things are going.

You know, I like the HIPAA laws but then I don't like them and this is one of the cases I really don't like them in that the hospital couldn't give you any info without a terrible runaround on you trying to track down your brother and what was going on with him medically. So much easier and less stressful on you if they had given you information earlier. At least you were able to give the social worker info on your brother and hopefully be informed of what will be going on with him in the future. In the meantime, taking the anxiety pills judiciously is a good thing to do to help you not feel more overwhelmed than you are. Continued prayers for you all.

I am so sorry you are going through this . There are so many balls in the air right now. Hopefully this is the result of the fall and will clear up in time.

Debbie I am so incredibly sorry. That has got to be so tough - I will certainly be praying for you. Does he live in Chicago? That has to be so hard not being where he is or being able to reach him. ♥

So very sorry to hear about this. How frustrating that must have been trying to find out where he was. Sending prayers for you and your brother.

Bless your heart. I can imagine how stressful this has been for you. I pray that your brother will get the help he needs and soon. How far away is he from you? Apparently he doesn't have any family close by? May the Lord intervene on his behalf and help him get the help he needs. And praying that your stress level will go down. Please take care of yourself. We understand here...no need to worry about keeping up with all of us. But we will keep you in our prayers. (((hugs)))

Ooooh Debby, I'm so so sorry about this. But it's a wake-up call for sure, in that some of you folks must be put on his "ok to share information with" list, so that you can ask about him and get information.

Yes, he needs someone living with him or he needs to live with someone else. I hope this somehow can be managed so he stays safe. Of course, good luck in today's day & age trying to find a place for him to live... it's not like the good ole days. You'll find that folks will have excuses a mile long on why he can't go live with them. I wish it was 100 years ago.

I'll be praying. ~Andrea xoxoxo

I'm so glad that you finally got the information you needed prayers for what you're going to go through by phone and possibly email trying to get this straightened out and get him into some place where they can take care of him. In Florida we have a way to put someone to contact in case of emergency on our drivers license and now I'm wondering does California do that.
