Mark and I took a day trip to Carlsbad, CA on Thursday. It was a rainy morning here but it turned out to be a nice day in Carlsbad. We wanted to go to a garden shop that we like a lot. We used to live in the area years ago. We have also stayed here in town several times for a few days. We love the town.
We have a favorite restaurant we go to called Jay's. So first we went over to the garden shop which at this time of year has the Flower Fields growing. It is an amazing thing to see. We didn't pay to go inside this year because we have done that a few times.
We did end up finding plants that will work in our yard. After almost 16 years in the house some things just needed to be replaced. We were happy with what we found. We also had a wonderful lunch at Jay's.
Those are fields of Ranunculus.
They go about a mile long.
They harvest these for Mother's day.
A few ocean views....
I got a small ranunculus plant for myself to grow.
This is a Protea we bought a few weeks ago.
Our garden is doing well too!
We haven't decided where to plant this yet but it is a Dwarf Lilac bush. I never knew that Lilac bushes grew here. A friend of mine who I played bunko with for years recently posted hers on Facebook. I was so surprised. These have been grown to live in our climate. I'm so excited! I couldn't believe we found one.
Bought a bouquet of Rununculus to take home.
Have a lovely week ahead of you. Mark has his second eye being done today for his cataracts. His first eye has turned out great. Hopefully later this week we are going to go to a casino. I could sit all day at a Keno machine. Wish me luck.

What beautiful photos. It looks like a very relaxing day trip. You have to pay to go inside a garden shop? That seems kind of crazy.
I love lilac. I've tried a couple times to grow them but I'm a horrible gardener. The last one I planted was very small and I didn't warn the guys who mow and they mowed it down.
Good luck to Mark on his surgery.
I like all the flowers you bought to plant, yellow flowers are always my favorites. it will be a while until Mark can help plant the new plants, prayers for a sucessful eye surgery. that ocean view is magnificent.
What awesome views you had. Love those photos of the rows of flowers and the ocean views too. And your bouquet of flowers and the plants for your yard are also beautiful. Praying your husband's surgery goes well. Have a wonderful week Debby!
I did so love your photos, Debby - what beautiful plants and places! You have an amazing week, too!
Such lovely photos that made me smile and feel good, cataract surgery isn't something I like the thought of as I have a thing about eyes
I love runnunculas and seeing the fields in bloom is on my 'want to do' list. So glad you had a nice day, and also that your hubs surgery went well. Have a great week!
Those flowers are pretty. I need to get some. I haven't been down to Carlsbad in over 30 years.
Your day at Carlsbad sounds delightful, Debby!
The Ranunculus fields look amazing; wish I might see them in person someday.
Oh my goodness! That girls of flowers! Glad you had a chance to get away for the day!
*field* of flowers in above comment
Man you live in a gorgeous area and that plant shop is fantastic.
I go for my first cataract May 25 so that was good to hear.
I hope you go soon to your Keno table! ☺
Hi Debby,
I have never seen a Rununculus in person. Only in photos. I do not know that they grow well here in Wisconsin. They are beautiful. I am happy you shared your bouquet with us.
Carla
Wishing you luck for sure..Keno is always fun.
I love those Rununculus so much. It would be amazing to see an entire field of them in person.
I'm sure everything will go well on the cataract surgery. Hubby was so happy to have his done a while ago.
Its been years since I went to Carlsbad. Wish we could go there now.
