STATING ONE MONTH LATE....
I never realized that it was "National Get Organized Month" and this is my dream for this year. I won't accomplish this in January but I plan to do this over the next year. (Simplified Bee is a great blog to follow) I also signed up for "HOME made simple" newsletters from a blog I follow called Together We Save. Simple is what I want. I also found a great link today over at Theta Mom which I think is really going to help me. Head on over to Organize Right Now if you have time. Also another place that I will be checking out is called FlyLady. Several people suggested this to me to help me get my house cleaned without feeling overwhelmed.
So I obviously have the tools. Now I just need to move forward and get motivated. So if you have any links for motivation send them my way. (I still have some bins in the garage from our move 3 years ago that haven't been emptied) My plan is to take a picture of something that is really bothering me, get it cleaned up and post the before & after. What I should do is post the picture first and then show you the after which I might do as I build confidence in myself and actually see if I will follow through. One thing I know for sure is that it will feel so wonderful to have an organized house. (With the help of my daughter I will accomplish this goal)

I'm right there with ya sister. I just want to organize this hectic house. I started by cleaning out a desk the other day. Hadn't been cleaned out for 15 years, geez... I have always been a stow and go girl... no more.... gotta clean out. Thanks for the suggestions on what posts to read for some guidance.
Oh how I can relate...I am constantly trying to keep things organized in my house, and failing. It will stay organized for a week, maybe a month, but then it's goes right back to the way it was before.
Isn't it amazing how much stuff we adults collect over the years that we can't seem to part with?

Good luck getting organized! I feel the same push to do this at least twice a year, so it doesn't get too bad around here. I absolutely love when I feel the motivation to clean everything up! Have fun with it!!
I began my quest last year (2009) to go through my stash bins and use up fabric, get rid of things that I no longer use in my business like sweatshirts. I donated the sweatshirts, denim shirts, etc. to the Union Rescue Mission. I figured that it was better to help to keep others warm during the cold months than to stay tucked away in my bins. I am still on a mission this year to go through things. It will take a long time as now I have my mil's things that my sil didn't want to keep. Some day, I will have my mother's things as well. We were a storage place for my dh's cousin, who was homeless at the time (5 years ago), but had a storage unit that he was paying on but couldn't afford. My dh's cousin finally is in a place and picked up his belongings.
I can't set those organization goals - My heart can't take the years of disappointment I've given it LOL I wish you all the best in your quest and I will send you prayers!

I've heard Flylady is good. I told hubby that we are gonna have some serious organization and cleaning before this baby comes. We need to get rid of stuff we don't need or use to make more room!

A great trick to staying neat and uncluttered is to live in a monastery... LOL! kidding ;-)
I have trouble living in chaos, my head is a big enough mess - I need things neat and tidy and organized in my physical surroundings.
Of course it's a DREAM, life tends to get in the way! LOL

Oganizing is always a great goal but it is so hard. There are space issues, memorabilia issues, etc...Oh my if I could only pay someone - ha ha.
I am doing it like you. Slowly thoughout the year - one closet at a time!
You are a better woman than I! My solution to organzation is throw at least 1/2 away and move the rest some place I won't see it...
