I just want to scream!

Did you ever have one of those days when you just want to scream? Of course you have, why do I even ask, you all have such busy crazy lives. My days are usually pretty quiet. Last year in February my aunt passed away at 91 years old. Her husband had passed away 2 years before her and they never had children. So my father and I were the designated trustees for the estate. So most of my time last year was spent working on their estate. My father being 85 was not able to help allot but did what he could which I am very thankful for. So I was closing accounts, opening bank accounts, sending letters, meeting with attorney several time, and had to sell two homes. I have to say that even though it is a very time consuming process we were very fortunate to sell both homes in the same year. We were actually able to close out the estate before the end of the year and do all the necessary tax stuff. Done, case closed.

At least that's what I thought. So about a month ago I got a letter from an insurance company asking for information. I of course called and did the usual waiting on hold which is always so much fun. Anyway the man I talked to told me that they just needed my uncle's death certificate to complete the file. This particular insurance policy payment ended when his wife died. So I sent what they requested and yesterday I receive another letter from the insurance company. So again today I do my waiting on hold again and this time I am told that there was another one. There was a policy that apparently my aunt never contacted them about after her husband passed away.

What gets me angry is the fact that we wrote letters regarding all of the accounts including the above mentioned one after my aunt passed. I was on the phone for hours with a person who told me which accounts would have a payout and which ones stopped after her death. So why now, a year later do I have to go through all of this again. How can these companies even stay in business when they don't even know what's going on. And don't get me started on the fact that we cashed several E-bonds at a certain bank and they had no record of them ever being cashed when it was time to do the taxes. (Being the good person that I am we still claimed them on the estate taxes) I just want to scream today!

I completely understand! After my Father-in-law passed...we started getting phone calls from solicitors, asking for him. He never lived here!!!
The calls kept coming...even got junk mail in his name...How when he never lived here!!!
I finally had to use the Shock method of saying..."He's dead!"...silence on the other end...they stopped calling.

I can't find my blog said...

I'm sorry that you're still having to deal with all of this. I wish that there was something I could say. Maybe just have a glass of wine and forget all about it tonight?

Oh my... That explains how when everything gets caught up 3 years later, companies are caught wondering what happened!! Wow the estate closed quite quickly with 2 houses to sell. My, you must have been on the ball and hustling every minute. Hang in there, at least you know you did your part and it was done right. You sure wouldn't want something come back to haunt you...

I've had to deal with insurance companies a lot, and it's no fun! It usually seems like nothing is ever accomplished...

first i want to tell you that im glad you could come to all of us to let out your frustration
i always say its my therapy to have my blog, it makes us feel connected and when our blogger friends we have not met in person comfort us in a way that family or close friends always cant,as outsiders we can see the situation from afar and help.
i know it must be very time consuming and stressful going thru all of this so once it is done i want you to go to an all day spa and treat yourself and then you have to blog on it and tell me what a great idea that was, hee hee
i will keep you in my prayers

Oh don't even get me started about estates! UGH they can be such a pain! My grandfather passed almost 3 years ago. My dad was named the trustee. I love my grandparents but they kept EVERYTHING! 4400 sf of house stuffed to the rafters! Took us almost a year of going every weekend to clean it.

My dad's 2 sis live in different states so couldn't/didn't want to help. House still not sold, and oh yeah grandfather remarried 6 mo before he died. Had a prenup and all, come to find out those don't really help. Still fighting with lawyers, still trying to sell the house ... My poor dad is still going there every weekend (1 1/2 hour drive each way).

I feel for you my dear I've seen the toll it's taken on my poor dad. It's a lot of work and not a lot of gratitude for everything that has to be done.

Hugs!

Now it is understandable why all the Insurance companies are asking for hand-outs, they can not even keep straight what they have. Forget about what they will get.
Sorry for your loss and frustration for the past year.
