Born January 20, 1979
It was the winter of '79 in Chicago, record snowstorms and Super Bowl weekend. I was being watched for toxemia, my pressure was high and I believe that my doctor was concerned about being called in on Super Bowl Sunday so I went to the hospital on a Friday afternoon and was induced. So what I learned from my birthing classes didn't help much. I wasn't a happy camper.
We thought that we must be really close to transition and I was maybe at 3! (never went past 8)Bring on the drugs please. As it all turned out after 16 hours of labor our son was what they called "sunny side up" and I needed an emergency c-section and because of the previous drugs I had to be put under, no epidural for me! Got the belly button down cut and had an asthma attack on the table. So after he was born (perfect) I was put into the ICU for 24 hours. Things were different 31 years ago so he wouldn't have been with me around the clock anyway but I couldn't see him at all. I had a Polaroid photo next to me. (and just so you know we were never allowed to see the sonogram screen or get a photo printed at that time either) My husband told me that when they wheeled me out of surgery I told him that he (our son) would be an only child.

He graduated with honors in Philosophy from UC Santa Cruz, he works at a very prestigious hospital in Los Angeles and purchased his first home last year. We consider ourselves blessed.

Presidents are inaugurated on January 20th. In 1937, Inauguration Day moved to January 20, a change enacted by the 20th amendment to the Constitution. The Vice President's swearing-in ceremony also moved, from the Senate chamber to the Inaugural platform on the Capitol's east front. In 1981, the Inaugural ceremonies moved to the west front terrace of the Capitol, where they have been held ever since. So when a President is being inaugurated you will always know that it's our son's birthday. I have always said to him that when he becomes the President of the United States he will be inaugurated on his Birthday!!
On May 18, 1981 he became a big brother to his beautiful sister. (a planned c-section that was a breeze compared to his birth)

Now that's a birthday post! Happy belated birthday to your son. :)
what a cute post for your son's birthday and WOW what a birth story. I was also delivered by c-section and my mom also got the nice belly button down cut. I used to look at it when I was little and I was proud that I gave that to her! Now that I am older I feel bad since it is a pretty nasty scar. But the things we do for our children!!!
Loving this post too!
Boys always have to be such a pain compared to girls! Stinky ol' boys ;)
