A smile is a facial expression formed by flexing those muscles most notably near both ends of the mouth.
So yesterday I woke up feeling a little better. I gave Skye her birthday gifts and felt good about the day. (thank you for all the warm wishes) My plan was this, I will do some light vacuuming because of the aftermath of hurricane Skye with her puffy toys. (yes we pick it up but there are still small lints lingering around) The other plan was to do some gathering. Gather: the act of gathering something. That means that I would be taking miscellaneous Christmas decorations and start to "gather" them at the dining room table. I do this every year, it is always the starting point.
So I gathered up all the Christmas throws first and took them to the laundry room to wash before I pack them away. ~INSERT FROWN~ I got so winded that I had to sit down. So how in the heck am I supposed to pack up Christmas 2009? So here is an idea ~INSERT SMILE~ we have 350 days until Christmas, I guess I'll just be ready early! It's not easy for me to turn my frown upside down today but I will give it my best shot. I seem to be playing musical chairs!
So I thought that I would show you what the bed looks like in one of our guest rooms. This is the after Christmas things that I bought. I have to sort through it (hopefully before spring), mark my Christmas list for next year with what I bought for who and then pack it away. I had fun shopping. (the toys are going to be used for charity gifts, why not get them half price now!)
Found these cute little frames at Coldwater Creek for like $5.00 each and these cute tins with Christmas wishes postcards inside for $6.99 at Potterybarn. These were both purchases online and will be gifts for next Christmas.
So I am sitting here at my computer and singing a song in my head from "Bye, Bye, Birdie" that goes:
Put on a happy face
Wipe of the clouds and cheer up
Put on a happy face
Take off the gloomy mask of tragedy
It's not your style
You'll look so good that you'll be glad
That you decided to smile
Pick out a pleasant outlook
Stick out that nobel chin
Wipe off that full of doubt look
Snap on a happy grin
Spread sunshine all over the place
And just put on a happy
Put on a happy face

We call the toys being ripped apart a "Squeaker-ectomy".
Packing up all my Christmas stuff is really a chore for me too......but I do love the after Christmas sales! I just scored a ton of things for 75% off!
Happy New Year!!!!
It is a great idea to buy toys half price! Sales are always great. Because of the stupid snow we got here I didn't get to do ANY after Christmas shopping. Insert me frowning here. :(
I'm so glad you are still able to find things to smile about! Shopping and finding good deals helps me too :-)
i think you have so much christmas stuff that you should just celebrate all year long.
I love all you do. Wow and all of the stuff and already starting on next year. You are amazing. Love the New Look of your blog.. Hearts..
I love the fact that you were 'GATHERING'! :) I happen to think that putting our Christmas decor up right after Christmas is highly overrated. It is only up a short time...and we hardly get to enjoy it! I have a small tree in my studio, where I have my country and primitive ornaments. And, I am not even thinking of taking it down! I like it...I like looking at it...it brings me joy...it stays!
If your things don't get put away till March...just look at it as a chance to enjoy it longer!!!
I have lupus, and fibromyalgia. My strength is very limited. I have to rest often. So, my way is to work a while and rest a while. It gets frustrating sometime, so I know how you feel. But, hey...you just 'do what you can...when you can...and let the rest slide!'
You are more ambitious than you give yourself credit for.
Amazing deals you got.
I can't make myself buy anything right now. I got rid of so much before this year that I hadn't put up for so long.
Hi sweet Debby!
Just a thought...what about ordering a few pizza's and inviting a few friends over to help you pack it all up. That way, it would be a FUN girls night AND all your stuff would get done.
Hugs,
Trisha
i took all mine down the day after Christmas.. if i dont, it sorta depresses me that its already over...
hope you get to feeling better... and if i lived anywhere near you.. i would bring chocolate and help you out!
have a lovely wkend!!!
wow! you are all set for next Christmas...love the deals you got at the sales!
I know putting it all away is the hardest...just take it one step at a time!!!
my christmas stuff is half-way put up... the tree is still up... not sure when I will get the energy to get that one taken down... I am with you on just leaving it for next year... haha!
You know just go with the flow on any given day and do worry about what doesn't get done. Too often we fill ourselves with so much to get down on our to do lists that realistically its a wonder we get half of it done anyway.
Love all your great finds and thanks for pointing out just where you got them.
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
Those post cards look so fun
If I was there I would be more than glad to help you
I love what you said about playing musical chairs between the smile and the frown....and "gathering" its a technique I use in my house, but I had no name for it...thanks to you I now have a name for it. I had been referring to it as the "pre-clean" or "pre-pack" state of mind. Its what I do before I actually clean or pack something. Great blog and thanks for stopping by my place.
Those tins are really cute! I just packed up our Christmas stuff the other day. It didn't take long b/c I didn't put much out. I like Trisha's idea!!
Smiling here Debby...thank you for putting things into perspective. I
finally got my tree down and most things tucked away today. I am still waiting on my niece to Email me her Mom's address for the Handkerchief. I know that she will treasure it. I will send it along as soon as I hear anything. Bless you Dear Friend...feel better soon!
Oh! I should have bought some toys for charity during the big Boxing Day sales! Oh well, maybe next Christmas.
I love having the lights on the tree, in the livingroom but then it was invading my work out space, soooooo down it came. I just got the tree box closed lastnight. Today I have crates in my livingroom still I'm starting to think the crates take up more space then the tree did just being in teh corner. On the plus side I threw out 4 broken ornaments, if the weren't fixed in the last 2yrs I figured it was time.
Such a great idea to shop those sales!
Glad you're feeling better! You keep stimulating the economy! Love all your goods my dear.
