So we would gather around the television, watch the awards and eat pizza. Honestly I didn't have a clue what was going on when I was young. It wasn't until I was older that I actually knew what it was all about. But one thing for sure it that it was tradition. Going to the movies has always been important in my life.
We have continued this tradition with our children. Of course they are all grown up now but things haven't changed. We all gather around the big screen TV eating our pizza and love every moment of it. Everyone will have a ballot to fill out and a winner will get some cold hard cash! There have been years when I have bought little Oscar awards to give out but we all appreciate cash these days. If you want a ballot to print out you can get one here.
There has been one change over the years for me. When it came around to award night I was totally prepared. I had seen each movie and every actor that was up except for something like a foreign film that I couldn't find anywhere. See my husband and I use to go to movies at least once a week but many weeks we would go twice! Since he has had an office job for over 3 years now we only go about once a month if we are lucky. (I could go and see them myself but it's so easy to stay home) Movies come out so quickly now that we do still see allot of movie each month. But when it comes to Oscar night I have only seen maybe a few of the movies. The first year was the hardest but now I'm okay with it.
It is still so much fun and hopefully some day we can pass this tradition on to our grandchildren. I love watching movies and that will never change.

I loved last year's show, but am afraid I will have to pass on this year's, since it's always so late at night/early in the morning and I have to work again tomorrow morning!
I hope you enjoy it and don't eat too much pizza...
I enjoy seeing who wins in the big categories.
Some years I have only seen one of the movies up for movie of the year. Sometimes movies have won that I think are boring - lol.
I hope The Blind Side wins something this year as that was a great movie in my opinion.
Have fun watching and enjoying the tradition with your family!
Blessings,
andrea
What a fun tradition! We never really watched any awards shows when we were little, so when CJ & I happen to catch one we get bored pretty quickly lol! I wish we had the same tradition! It sounds like fun!!
When I was still a working journalist (pre-kids), I would get to see all the Oscar movies and then I'd have to work all night on the day of the actual show. Now I'm lucky to get out and see one of the Oscar nominated films...
It is so nice that you and your family get together to watch the Oscars. Not everyone in my household is a big fan of the award shows.
Enjoy!! I rarely go to the movies, as I'm too fidgety, but I watch movies at home all the time --- so I hardly ever have seen the movies featured in the current awards ceremony. I should record it and watch it the next year when all those movies have been out on cable lol
Carrying on with family traditions is a part of the fun of watching the Oscars. My children have their traditions too. Enjoy your pizza and the fun of seeing who won.
I love movie's but am not a fan of the awards show. I am pretty sure that we won't be watching. Is that bad? :)
You know I haven't watched in a few years but now with Rick gone and just me at home I think I'll be watching tonight :)
I can't wait.. Have a fun time.. I love your traditions..
Hubby and I used to go to the movies once a week when we were both working, but now that we are on Social Security, it has gotten a bit expensive and we have to wait until they come out on DVD.
I LOVE watching the Oscars, but hubby - uh, not so much, so I rely on my Twitter friends to keep me informed as to what is going on. Then I check out the web to see what everyone wore, because after all THAT is the most important thing! :-)
I'm the same way you are! I used to see nearly every movie that hit the theaters. Nowadays, I'm lucky if I've seen one of the movies up for awards!
What a fun tradition! I don't know that I've seen any of the movies that have been nominated this year, but if I had a movie to root for, I'd be watching!
Hi~
I haven't watched the Academy Awards for YEARS! We don't have cable or satellite so we don't watch much tv, usually just DVD's and VCR tapes.
I hope you enjoy the awards presentation!
Blessings~

Well, I have to post another comment. We did watch the Academy Awards together as a family for a little bit. I think that I watched most of the awards myself. I really liked the dancers and watching to see who won. I thought that the short video of Steve and Alec Baldwin in hotel room was funny.
Yep!So much fun ~ I remember when we started watching them as a family ( probably around the same time we started watching the Miss America Pagent ) ~
I remember betting my parents a nickel during the show ( sadly I lost and never got over it ~LOL)
Anyway, yes what surprises toniGHT!
