Remember my "Post It" about the puppies coming into our yard? These cute little friends of Skye's who now live next door. She is standing on a rock kissing them. As you can see in this picture we have a nylon netting up. We did this last year when we brought Skye home. She was so tiny and I am so protective of her I didn't want her going through the fence. With a view home you have what is called "cat fence" along the back portion of your yard. If Skye had gone through as a puppy it would be really difficult getting her as she ran down the hill. There is no gate either and it's not a simple fence to get over.
Well these cuties, with their razor like teeth and nails (like all puppies) managed to tear through this mesh which I can't break through with my hands. So for days they were getting into our yard. At first they were just climbing up and over. I would place them through the fence over and over again. I ended up getting some cardboard and placing it against the fence to cover the holes they made. Of course this happened when my husband was out of town for 9 days! The neighbor also put up some thick cardboard on his side. So my husband was going to get some heavier wire and put it up when he got back from his trip. Well the neighbor ended up doing that so the pups can't get through anymore.
So end of story right? NOT! As time goes on I have been giving Skye more time outside. I will sit at the table with my computer and watch her. If I don't see her I will say "Skye where are you" and she will usually come and show me herself. (kinda cute right) So we were doing this on Monday. She was running back and forth along that side of the fence looking at the puppies. Part of that area I can't see because of the spa. So I was asking Skye to show me where she was and I didn't see her.
So I put on my robe, go outside and guess what I see? Did you guess? Skye was next door in the neighbors yard playing with the puppies. SHE DUG A HOLE AND WENT OVER! She did this once before when Chasey was living next door. Believe me when I tell you that I no longer existed to Skye. She never even looked at me when I called her name.
So now what do I do? I can't get over the fence. (believe me when I tell that you don't want to see a 5'2" 190 pound asthmatic woman trying to jump that fence!) She wouldn't come anywhere near the fence! So I run in the house and go out in front with my robe on and run next door to their gate. Simple solution right? Well of course they have their side gate with a padlock on it. Understandable but not very good for me at the moment. These new neighbors are gone from 8am until almost 8pm each day. What the fudge am I going to do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank God my husband is in town and only works 9 miles away from home. He came home and saved the day. See this happened around noon and I there was no way I was going to let this go on until 8pm. (I think I might have called the police to help me if hubby wasn't home) So he had to get the ladder, jumped over in his work clothes, and handed me our sweet little girl who I was very angry with. I had already filled the laundry room sink with water for a bath. I do not have pictures. I was going to take a picture of Skye playing with the pups but the darn little male was doing the naughty with her every chance he got. (I wasn't about to take a picture of that. What if her husband saw it someday!)

So she got her bath. My plan was to bath her and put her in her kennel for the rest of the day. I didn't do that because the kennel should not be used as punishment. So Skye got to live under the EVIL eye of me all day. She pretty much stayed under the bed! (no animals were harmed during this exercise) My new Red Olympic mittens were not harmed either. Aren't they awesome.
But I almost lost a shoe. I left my shoes by the back door when I went inside. So while my husband was getting a shovel to fill in the hole with dirt one of the puppies actually came under the fence through Skye's hole. The puppy took my shoe and I guess tried to get back into its yard with it. My shoe was sitting in the hole!

These doggies must all really want to play with each other. You had a very eventful day on this particular day! Wowza!
Those puppies must be absolutely irresistible! I couldn't have been too mad at her either. She really is awfully cute!
Perhaps you and the neighbour might talk about a small gate between the two houses. It would certainly make life a lot easier!
Love the mittens by the way!
Awww! Little troublemakers! Maybe you can talk to your neighbor about allowing them to play together every once in awhile and leaving the gate open!!
Cute story. So will there be little Skye's in the future?
Debby...I enjoyed reading about Skye's Big Adventure! Glad that your husband was nearby and could save the day...love your mitten's.
This post made me laugh and think of my dogs I had growing up. They would jump the fence but when they heard my Dad's loud truck come home they came running and were back in the yard..
Have a great day..
Glad Skye has some new friends.
How funny! Our dogs are both males and do that male dog thing when they get made at each other. Once, a small boy was visiting our home, witnessed this and screamed" they're getting married!" .....we were mortified! Now it's a family joke. If I even see them thinking about it, I'll say you are NOT getting married! :)
Oh no! You might have to put a doggie door between the two yards so Skye and the puppies can visit each other without tearing down fencing or digging holes...
that's so stressful~!
that's so stressful~!
What an adventure. For you and Skye! Beautiful view from your house, too.
I can just imagine your shoe in that hole!
I agree with Katherine - what an adventure! That definitely doesn't look like a fence anyone could climb over - I kept waiting for when the police showed up with your hubby using a ladder to climb over to the neighbor's house... ;)
SKYE!!!! Oh, I hate it when my dogs won't "hear" me when I call their name. It is infuriating because you KNOW they can hear you. They just want to play! Have you come up with a solution to the dig under, tearing down mesh mess?
Puppies keep our life full of adventure.
Blessings, andrea
I was rolling on the floor laughing by the time I finished reading your post. I can SO RELATE to this post. I have three little ones that are always into something!! We have a fence, that so far, our dogs haven't managed to escape... however our neighbor has a fence with lots of cardboard, plastic, rocks, cement blocks, logs, etc. where he tries to block their holes. It is very ugly from my view... but hey... I've learned to live with it. :o) What a good post... I can almost feel your "panic" while reading this!
ps... I just love, love, love the picture of the puppies kissing!
I was totally stressed out by the end of the post! I'm so glad that you got it all worked out, for today lol I'm sure you'll have many more adventures with the new puppies and Skye.
yeah u need to set up a doggie play date hehe ..im sure the other ppl wouldnt mind since they are gone all day
yes.. i'm all for talking with the neighbors.. gotta keep skye safe!
JUST BREATHE, MY FRIEND!! There's never a dull moment when you have animals, is there? Maybe a doggie play date with the neighbors once in awhile to let them play might be enough to keep them in the own yard.
Love the gloves. AWESOME!
Blessings~

You must have your hands full with Skye. We have a similar thing going on with our dog, Otis. He's always looking for ways to escape! Somedays I wish he would, but alas, he always comes back...
what an adventure! lol so sweet. and i am so glad the mittens were not harmed, i love those.
xo
The puppies are so sweet. Love the mittens, glad they are safe.
debby
You handled that very well. Had it been Lucy I would have been screaming my foolish head off. Glad it all worked out.
Oh my what an ordeal! Skye is just so cute, I can see why you could not stay mad at her for very long though. That is a really cute picture of them kissing!
Oh my goodness! I'm glad everyone is in their rightful place right now, but it sounds like the 3 of them need play dates! Maybe they won't feel the need to see each other so much when they're not suppose to! LOL!
Poor naughty Skye!
I sorta would have liked to see a video of you in your bathrobe to the the gate padlocked.....sorry, I'm evil.
The pups next door sound like darling little critters. They had your shoe in the hole, oh mercy!
Oh that is the worst fear for ma with Braxton & Lulu! I'm sooo relieved this came our so well...there are definitely angels around Skye to make sure she was safe..
PS - my nephew had a little doggie that would be able to squeeze between the bars of his fence ...so they got a life vest for him - the additional girth wouldn't allow him to pass through!! LOL
OH my LORDY! What a day, what a week, what an adventure :-o
And yes, of course, this stuff *always* happens when hubby is out of town. You know that I know that first-hand, LOL!
Skye may be small but she's big on character and determination, I hope that was the last of her "adventures" but oh boy, get ready for more!
Naughty, naughty girl!
That sounded like quite an adventure for Skye. And just a small bit of a nightmare for you!
I'm thinking a playdate is in order!
Reminds me of my rescue dog days...they can get through anything!
This made me think of the time my dog dug a hole under our fence in the UK. I met my British neigbhor in the house behind us this way. Too bad I was in my robe. Fortunately he was a dog lover!
I love the mittens...did you go to the Olympics or just order the mittens. I noticed them during the games and commented on them to my husband. Maybe you've mentioned it here but I'm behind in reading blogs.
neighbor. That's the word I meant : )
"When there's a will, there is a way!" Skye keeps you on your toes, doesn't she, Debby? Cute mittens! Love the view in your backyard!...Christine

Wouldn't it be fun to know exactly what was running through Skye's mind? She had to know she was misbehaving but those puppies were just too tempting for her!
I'm glad hubby was there to save the day.
OH My goodness what an ordeal!! I'm so glad hubs works so close but what the heck with the shoe! That is s areal bummer!
LOVING your gloves they are super cute. Any luck on the hat?
I have a naughty little scamp myself! ;) good thing they are cute! Funny Story... though I am sure you did not find it funny when it was happening! puppies!!
My hubby is Canadian ... so grandma got our kids those mittens this year... my kids don't love mittens... they 'need' fingers... but they are cozy for walks! when one doesn't need fingers! lol!
You know honest to GOD, been there, done that, and have ALL the grey hairs to prove it ~ not that I would do anything diferently with my furbabies, but wow ~ you are a better woman than I, energy wise !
Hugs, Nancy & ANgus
Awwww puppies!!!
Our pups always gotta cause a little mischief!

Oh my goodness!!
First, what a gorgeous view you have!
Secondly, Skye is too funny in her quest to play with the puppies. I have to admit puppies are pretty cute. Wonder if she likes playing Mommy?
Third, so glad hubby was there to save the day and that you didn't lose a SHOE! :-D
Stopping by from SITS!
i just typed Skye into your search bar and here i am.. to funny.. love the last line of the shoe sitting in the hole... this happened once with Jake when we first got him. he was between our fence and the neighbors fence and would not come. i got one of his favorite treats and held i just inside and when he came i backed up and he followed the treat. why does this type thing happen when the hubby is not home?
