FUN IN THE SUN

It was extra hot last week. We have a few plants that needed an extra boost of water so our son-in-law was doing some hosing and of course Skye & Charlie joined in. They had so much fun.

Since they were already very wet and were in need of a bath we decided to just go ahead and bath them outside.

Look how pretty we are now!

MY CAR ~ MY BABY

I have always been an overprotective mom to my cars and I don't share well. My children were never allowed to eat or drink in the car although I think I let them have a bottle/sippy cup with water. A spotless clean car is a must, inside and out. (my daughter has followed in my footsteps)

Now I am not as big of a clean freak anymore because I am no longer physically able to do it. I remember when my children started driving and my husband expected me to just give them my car. Talk about hard! I eventually gave in but depression followed. I really don't know where this came from. Needless it say it was important that my children got their own cars!

So fast forward to the present and I am still very controlling of my car. I had my first Mini Cooper for 5 years, my husband never drove it. Got my second Mini CooperS two years ago and he hasn't driven this one either. I did let my family test drive it but that really doesn't thrill them because they know how I am.

So we have the trip to Mammoth Lakes this year, right? My daughter has a Toyota Yaris that is going on five years old. It's in great shape (low mileage) and would surely make it up in the mountains but she really didn't want to drive it. Our son is in the process of getting a new car but wasn't able to drive the car he is currently driving because it was just to old and didn't actually belong to him. So they start asking if they could take my car.

Conversations went on for a few weeks and my stomach was going crazy at the thought. So then my daughter had to remind me of the woman we had worked with who lost her son at 19 to an accident that happen in the grocery store he worked at. She always regretted that she never let him drive her sports car. He had always asked and she would say no. Obviously it wasn't very important in the long run and wished she had said yes. So I am thinking what should I do. I keep thinking what if something happened and they were not driving my car, what if my car would have been safer.

Finally I said end of discussion, I don't want to talk about it anymore. I knew my daughters car would be just fine. Then right before the trip I heard my husband on the phone with our son and I could hear him say "mom said no." Then I was feeling really bad so right before my husband and I left for Mammoth I said "do what you want, I don't want to know!"

So they showed up in my car, which I knew they would jump on it given what I had said. It all turned out well and they made it safely to Mammoth Lakes. So at that point I knew that I was going to be the one driving it home. Now we have been going there for over 16 years and this would be the first time I would be driving. Guess what, it was okay and I actually passed many cars on highway 395. My daughter was with me and she gave me a high five. My Mini has power and I actually enjoyed the drive home. (passed two motor homes at once, also two cars and a motor home! Gee, do I need to be first like my husband?)

So our daughter drove back with me and our son drove with my husband who took him back to Los Angeles before heading home. It was a great vacation and I was okay with the way it turned out.

And no you can't borrow my car!

P.S. Keep in mind that I am a very giving person and give my children all that I can, just don't ask to use my car. Also the rules for parking is that you must ALWAYS park on an end and preferably to the right so you are next to the passenger side of the car next to you with the hopes that it is just the driver without a passenger. Yes I do have a long walk when I park!

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE ~ PART ONE

I decided to do mosaic pictures because it's the best way to show off all the pictures. You can click on each picture to enlarge them for a better view. Enjoy!

These are some items that they have at the lodge on display from years ago.

Some pine cones on the trees.

This is Crystal Craig Eastern Sierras. You can see it from everywhere.
There is a trail to Crystal Craig that goes up behind our cabin.
There is a lake up there. (That is where our ashes are going)

For some reason I have a fascination with dead trees.

Ladybug curtains in the cabin, my car, awesome eats, large
macaroon, fireplace, chipmunk, cookies, beer, deer and would you believe
the butter knife that fell and stuck in the linoleum!
Thankfully it missed our daughters foot.

Part Two Tomorrow.

RANDOM DOZEN

HEAD ON OVER AND VISIT LINDA TO PLAY ALONG.

1. What is your favorite Mexican dish?
I usually get cheese enchiladas.

2. When you were a kid, did you get started on your homework right away after school, or did you procrastinate?
To tell you the truth I didn't do much homework or I don't have any memory of doing it. My mother never checked on me, she was deeply depressed and drank. However I did get by with big smiles to my teachers.

3. What is your favorite store for home furnishings?
I have two that I really like. Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel.

4. When you were young, did you like school lunches?
We went home and ate lunch however I would often go to the candy store because that was my favorite thing to eat.

5. Is religion a crutch?
I don't think of it as a crutch, it's what helps me to cope in this thing called life.

6. In your region, what is the "big" (most popular in the community or state) high school sport?
Haven't got a clue.

Rich with blessings. We do have money to live comfortably.

8. Which of these would you have the best chance for success in administering:

A) Salsa
B) Hip Hop
C) Waltz
D) Swing
I think I would like to Swing Dance.

Well when my daughter was going with our current SIL and he was away in the service his mother called us. She was so sad. I thought that something had happened to him. He actually meet a woman and wasn't going to be with my daughter anymore. It was so hard to tell her but like I said he is our SIL so things did turn out in the long run.

11. Name something you learned in college that had nothing to do with classes or academics.

VACATION ~ MAMMOTH LAKES, CA

We headed North on Sunday the 8th of August. Trip is always a bit stressful because of the many sections on the 395 that are two lane roads and my husband must be first! So lots of passing going on and many prayers sent to God from me in the car! I always tell him "it's vacation, we have all day!" We made our usual stop in Bishop, CA for bread at Schat's Bakery, then over to Mahogany Meats for jerky. My husband let me stop and gamble for an hour also :) at the little casino in town. Also we went to a small art fair in Mammoth Lakes that was ending that evening. Did our grocery shopping for the week and got all settled in for the evening in the cabin and our daily games of scrabble.
Crystal Craig Eastern Sierras
Because I am now a blogger I wanted to stop so many times to take pictures. Well you know who didn't want anything to do with that! (he was nice Wednesday when we went out for a ride and stopped several times for me to take pictures)
It was a perfect week, a little cooler then usual which was not a problem. Because of my extra weight and my asthma I don't do too much anymore. I mainly stay around the cabin and read. My husband did some hikes daily. Many bear warnings this year but none showed up at the cabin which was fine by me.

We are in cabin #6 off to the left.
Wednesday we went for a ride to Lee Vining, CA which is only about a 30 minute ride. That is where Mono Lake is but we didn't visit it this year. We have been coming up here annually for maybe 16 years now so we have seen a lot. We go to Lee Vining to stop at Mono Lakes Cones for a nice frozen custard. Then we drove around the June Lake loop to see the beautiful scenery. We did however see something new this year in Lee Vining. It's the upside down house.

Our son and daughter came up Thursday. (thank you for the prayers) We had a nice evening, they picked up pizza in town on their way to the cabin. Then we went the Minaret Summit around 11pm to see the meteor showers. OMG the stars are unbelievable! I knew that from coming here each year but when you really get away from any type of light source it was amazing. I had never seen the Milky Way Galaxy before. I am going to post a picture of what it looked like, I couldn't take a photo. (I will do a short post about my kids drive in a few days)So we hadn't seen any wild animals all week and our kids are here for like 4 hours and saw 3 deer, a bear and the meteor showers!

That's my cowboy!
Friday my husband , son & daughter went horseback riding. Husband was on Midnight, son was on Jr. and our daughter was on Bailey. I decided not to go because of my asthma and extra pounds. (it's not going to happen next year because I am going on a life change diet because I can't take it anymore) They showered when they came back and we were off to town to shop at the small outlet of shops. Mainly Van Huesen, Coach, Bass, Ralph Lauren, and a few shops with all kinds of goodies. Then it was off to a nice dinner at the Chart House.

This is prosciutto wrapped salmon and it was delicious. We had a bottle of wine + a few glasses and some great desserts. (this is with my cell phone and I am still not comfortable taking pictures of my food in restaurants) It was a wonderful day! This trip was filled with love and laughter. We stayed up late playing games and just having a ball!
Sunday we headed home and as you know we arrived safely. More to come about the ride home and a first for me!

This is just an overview of what we did, I have a lot more pictures to show you. I will work on some mosaic pictures and post them hopefully next week.
