RANDOM DOZEN

Head on over to Linda's at 2nd cup of coffee to link up and the questions today come from her friend Linda at Mocha with Linda who helped out this week. We all need a little help from our friends.

1. Do you prefer to read the book or see the movie?

I am such a slow reader that I usually end up seeing the movie. Many years ago when The Bridges of Madison County came out I had seen the movie and then I read the book and I enjoyed having the visual of the characters in my mind while I read it.

2. What is your favorite holiday and why?

It has always been Christmas. Even though things have changed over the years with everyone living in different states I have the best memories of being with big family gatherings growing up. It's the one time of year when I go all out. I treat every Christmas like it will be my last and my adult children always say this is the best Christmas ever each year. I adore giving. (I don't want to sound shallow, I do know the importance of Christmas and the birth of Jesus.) I grew up with tons of presents under the, opening them one at a time, watching each person and it would take all day. That is what I give my family each year.

3. Which do you like better - the mountains or the beach?

I love them both however I would rather be warm compared to being very cold. The sound of the ocean is awesome but the peaceful majestic beauty in the mountains is awesome so I guess I really can't pick one!

4. If money were no consideration, what vehicle would you drive?

I have no desire to own some $150,000 car or more$! I would like to own a Mercedes just because I like them and could have bought one when I bought my Mini Cooper. But I have been in love with the Mini and have had two for a total of 7 years now because I think they are adorable! They are fun to drive and have a lot of power. It's not always about the cost.

5. What is your favorite cold-weather beverage?

I seldom drink cold weather beverages but I guess I would say Wassail.

6. How do you communicate most often with your friends: phone, email, text, face-to-face, or Facebook?

Email and sometimes Facebook. I don't talk on the phone much but I use to.

7. How do you receive your mail? Mailbox on the porch, at the end of the driveway, down the street, or post office box?

Down the street at a group of boxes.

8. Of the four basic personality types - sanguine, phlegmatic, melancholic, and choleric - which is your strongest? Which is your least evident? (See definitions below.)

Sorry but I have pieces from each one, not one alone is me!

9. What do you miss the most about being 20?

Really, you have to ask? I would say my body and my health.

10. How long from the time you get up, does it take you to get ready to walk out the door in the morning?

I usually take about 45 minutes but I could be quicker if I had to.

11. Who handles the car maintenance and pays the bills in your family?

My husband pays the bills. I take my car for maintenance and he doesn't wash windows or cars either, that would be me. But he works hard all week, provides well for us and takes care of the yard.

12. For those in the US, how many states have you visited? For those outside the US, how many provinces/other countries have you visited?

I think it is somewhere in the neighborhood of maybe of 13.

Personality type definitions courtesy Wikipedia:

Sanguine
The Sanguine temperament personality is fairly extroverted. People of a sanguine temperament tend to enjoy social gatherings, making new friends and tend to be quite loud. They are usually quite creative and often daydream. However, some alone time is crucial for those of this temperament. Sanguine can also mean very sensitive, compassionate and thoughtful. Sanguine personalities generally struggle with following tasks all the way through, are chronically late, and tend to be forgetful and sometimes a little sarcastic. Often, when pursuing a new hobby, interest is lost quickly when it ceases to be engaging or fun. They are very much people persons. They are talkative and not shy. For some people, these are the ones you want to be friends with and usually they become life long friends.

Choleric
A person who is choleric is a doer. They have a lot of ambition, energy, and passion, and try to instill it in others. They can dominate people of other temperaments, especially phlegmatic types. Many great charismatic military and political figures were cholerics. They like to be leaders and in charge of everything.

Melancholic
A person who is a thoughtful ponderer has a melancholic disposition. Often very considerate and get rather worried when they could not be on time for events, melancholics can be highly creative in activities such as poetry and art - and can become occupied with the tragedy and cruelty in the world. A melancholic is also often a perfectionist. They are often self-reliant and independent; one negative part of being a melancholic is sometimes they can get so involved in what they are doing they forget to think of others.

Phlegmatic
Phlegmatics tend to be self-content and kind. They can be very accepting and affectionate. They may be very receptive and shy and often prefer stability to uncertainty and change. They are very consistent, relaxed, rational, curious, and observant, making them good administrators and diplomats.

I didn't think Linda was going to have questions for us this week! I was so pleasantly surprised to see your post in my sidebar!

I agree about what I'd miss about being twenty. And, oooohhh-- The Bridges of Madison county--Meryl played it perfectly, of course!

I have mine ready to go but I don't think she's putting up the link until tomorrow so I figured I'd post mine on Thursday.

The personality question is interesting and a tough one for me too. I think most of us fit more than one category.

Wassail-yum! Forgot about that.

Enjoy your day!

isn't it neat that we live somewhere where you can have the mountains and the beach without having to drive too far?

Wonderful answers and always fun to learn more about you. *sigh* I miss the beach. We used to live in Southern California but we're in the Arizona desert now.

How interesting about the personality types! I'm def a plhegmatic, lol!

I want a Mini, too.

Someday, someday. :-)

I would love a mini :)

You know I use to love talking on the phone, but you know it's mostly email but hardly that these days.

Oh the 20's!!

Debby, I love the Mini Cooper. How fun to have one. I bet you look so cute driving down the street in it. It's funny how I've been thinking lately about how little I talk on the phone. Email has taken over most of my telephone talking. I can't wait to bring my Christmas decorations out! Since we have the big family Thanksgiving at our house, I always wait until the day after T'giving. Very interesting answers. laurie

Enjoyed your answers. Christmas used to be mine when my daughter was still at home and growing up. Now I like Easter, cause we have made it thru the winter, and I get to see my kids more in the summer months. thanks for sharing!
until next time... nel

If I was a "small" person, I think a Mini Coop would be MY choice in cars too! They ARE cute! But I know I would feel very cramped in one!

My childhood Christmases were always like yours too - and I have provided the same for my kids. The last couple of years though... I just feel like WE have sO much... I'm struggling with it... I really am. Two years ago, WE (as a family) decided not to do gifts - just stockings - and we provided a HUGE Christmas for a family in the area that had fallen on hard times. THAT was the BEST giving experience I have EVER had... and I would love to do THAT every year. Unfortunately... my children - though adults - still have wants! *sigh*... ohhhh to be a millionaire...

Debby,,,, it is soooo funny how everytime I read your answers to questions about you, we are soooo much alike. Seperated at birth, has to be! I also had parents that made each Christmas better than the last. 5 kids and we were not rich by any means but always were showered with gifts at Christmas. I do carry on the tradition. What color is your mini? I just love the different ones I see. You should show us a picture sometime. Thanks for sharing a little bit of you with us! Hey, how is bowling going? Have a great weekend! ♥

I enjoyed your answers. I agree with you about wanting the body I had at 20. I would appreciate it more. I remember always thinking I was fat, and I wasn't at all then!

We always open presents at Christmas one at a time, too. It is just more interesting that way!

That personality stuff is interesting. I love, love, love the ocean...it's so soothing. I like the mountains, too, but I could do without the cold!

Thena said...

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that could pick one personality types.
Here at home I make sure we open gifts one at a time. The kids sit in a circle and takes turns going from youngest to oldest.

I love Christmas, too, and I also liked spicy mulled wine as a hot drink.

I had the opposite experience with Bridges of Madison County. I had read the book (didn't actually like it much) but hated Clint Eastwood as the male photographer. So wrong.

Mocha with Linda said...

My family always opened the gifts one at a time when I was growing up. When I got married and had the first Christmas with my in-laws, I was completely frustrated. They did it all at once and it was a melee. I don't think the grandkids even knew who gave them the gifts they opened. I always made sure my kids went to the giver and said thanks, but they were the exception rather than the rule.

Mini Coopers are adorable. They are great cars for where I live because they take up so little space.

I'm phlegmatic. Thanks so much for posting the definitions. I was pretty sure of the def. but not truly sure.

It's hard to define a personality type, I think - I think I also have bits and pieces of all of them, but really lean to the two I listed in my post.
