WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

1. What does it mean to have the 'holiday spirit'?
To me it is about being excited to be doing all the things you have to do. Last year was my first Christmas blogging, I couldn't wait to decorate and get in on the house tour. I blogged about all the cookies I made and took so many pictures. This year I am dragging my feet. I will be lucky to get some pictures up before Christmas. I am very excited to give, I love to give gifts to the people I love. There is nothing that I need except for the well being of my family.

2. What sits atop your tree (s)? Why?
Actually I have a Santa that sits on top. I use to have an angel and I use to use a star that would light up. Just haven't found anything that I am in love with recently and it has been hard to get something to look nice on this tree. The Santa is very cute but I would love to find a snowman!

3. When was the last time you gave yourself a pat on the back?
That is a good question! Okay I am going to do it right now - pat-pat-pat!

4. Which of your senses is most sensitive this time of year?
I'm not sure how to answer this one. My sense of hearing is loving the music, my sense of taste is loving the food, my sense of smell is loving the fragrances and my sight is loving the Christmas lights.

5. What do you have too much of in your kitchen?
I think I have too many cleaning supplies under the sink and way to many can goods in the pantry.

6. What do you do for meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? Big meal? Breakfast tradition? Open the cookie tins and have at it?
Well you always have to open the cookie tin and have at it! We currently don't do anything on Christmas Eve. Our children will be with their significant others so it will be a quite house. Christmas Day has always been a big meal. Use to be Turkey but we changed to Prime Rib with all the usualy fixings. This year however will be low key with Deep Dish Pizza and snacks. I really want to enjoy the day without a whole lot of work. It is just my mood this year, I felt the same way about Thanksgiving. We don't really have a breakfast tradition but I have to go to a Church Service on Christmas Eve and watch It's A Wonderful Life!

7. What is the best thing about winter?
Christmas!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I just want to say that I will be praying for everyone and their families during this holiday season. Have fun, stay safe, and remember that Jesus is the reason for the season!

This is just nice. Made me smile.
I think Christmas is about the ONLY thing good about winter! It's about 18 degrees here - in FLORIDA!

Great answers and I'm so glad you gave yourself a pat on the back. You work hard and have a great blog - there is my pat on your back! You are a great writer.

I was just thinking last night that Christmas is kind of a lot of work so I say pat yourself on the back~I'm sure you deserve it!

We like a low key Christmas Day too...I do not want to spend all day in the kitchen. We're with my hubs family this year and they have always done their big meal Christmas Day but they've agreed to change it up and we'll do the big meal Christmas Eve instead. It makes for a more relaxed day on Christmas. Enjoy!

Don't start about cleaning products! I have so many of them and always wonder what to use them for exactly!

I'm with you... keep Christmas low key. I'd rather spend the time with my family than working in the kitchen. ;-) And yes to It's A Wonderful Life!! <3

I agree-the best thing about winter is Christmas! A little snow is nice too-just to make it look pretty outside ;-)

Have a great day my friend.. I love this time of year too. I think I love my nose the most this time of year.. All of the great smells around are amazing.. I am not sure what we will put on top of our tree this year.. We have an elf of Santa that hangs out.. I just hope to get my tree in.. I am so ready to have it in the house. Soon I hope.. Traditions have changed since I moved away from home but I try my best to have some still around..

I think you deserve a pat on the back for taking a low key approach to the holidays this year! Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

I like your break from normal tradition, and keeping thing low key--I've been considering doing the same thing myself...perhaps next year!

I've noticed that doing things that used to make me happy, are now being viewed as "more work". LOL

. What does it mean to have the 'holiday spirit'? Of course it is about my Jesus and his birth. The best gift to me is the togetherness of family. I feel my Jesus want us t celebrate the love he has given us and that love is his salvation and birth and our special people in our lives

4. Which of your senses is most sensitive this time of year? the smells of all the yumee candles I have going

5. What do you have too much of in your kitchen?
Some mice that we cant seem to rid of and we have eveyting in plastic! they are driving us mad! they have outsmarted the traps.

6. What do you do for meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day?
Christmas Eve we go to the aunties and they make a huge feast of more things that i can write down. Christmas day we just eat all the leftovers,

7. What is the best thing about winter? the snow and drinking hot drinks and watching movies

8. Insert your own random thought here.
My Jesus is the reson for the season in my family

Debby, these are such lovely responses. It's funny, but it seems like a lot of bloggers (including me) are cutting back on their holiday decorating, etc. this year. I love to do the holiday decorating, but this year I am trying to keep in mind that it all has to be taken down and put up after the season! I've already watched It's A Wonderful Life once this season, but I could watch it over and over each year. I love going to the candlelight service at our church on Christmas Eve, and I always hope that our 35 or so extended family members will leave our Christmas Eve celebration in time to get to the church (or go with us to church). Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. laurie

Wonderful answers!! I love Christmas too. I don't care for the cold so that is what gets me through the winters.

Oh man I have to many cleaning products! You're Christmas Eve is so much like mine :)

Amen to your thought!

Enjoyed your answers. Several years ago we started a new tradition. Thanksgiving is always the big sit down meal with turkey and all the trimmings and I am usually in the kitchen all day. Christmas is more laid back for us. We do Sandwiches, and dips, cheeseballs, cheese and crackers, finger foods. Alot more relaxed and easy to do. I love cooking but I just feel that one huge meal is good enough.
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
until next time... nel

I think ever since I left home my Christmas's have never been the same twice. If I'd had children I bet there would have been something regular about them. This year I'm going home and I'm excited.

I hope you enjoy your Christmas, even though it's going to be a bit different for you this year.

Deep-dish pizza for christmas, now that's a novel idea! Love it! And the cookie tins too of course :-)

I'm already sick of winter and that normally doesn't happen until at least january. we're getting walloped this year with below-normal temps and record-breaking snowfalls. somehow, this christmas is being buried, i can't find my jolly spirit.

maybe i need booze.

or a skye photo, yeah, that would cheer me up :-D

Thoroughly enjoyed your answers! Love the cleaning supplies under the cabinet. That was good and I could sure say the same thing but it never crossed my mind. That's what makes this so much fun, we all think differently.

I'm with you on enjoying the day without a lot of work! Yes!

Heavenly blessings to you!

I have a vintage spire on the top of my tree...my daughter just told me all my vintage ornaments are kind of ugly. She can use all the new stuff on her tree someday.

Smells of Christmas is what I notice the most...cinnamon, baking, candies, pine tree, etc. i can't get enough of it.

I remember your blog tour from last year.
It was beautiful.
I'm sure it's beautiful this year as well.
I feel kinda the same. I love the entire season, but I don't want to feel such stress.

I received your package. What a treat!!!!!
The dish is so stinking cute, it brightened up my counter top. The peppermint bark.........uh, yum.
Everything was a delight. You are such a sweetheart!

I'm totally with you, Debby - Christmas is definitely the best part of winter, no matter what sits atop your tree or what traditions you have.

We began years ago having boiled shrimp and cheese biscuits on Christmas Eve. And, the boys will not let us stop it! On Christmas Day, we all get together for lunch. We used to go to Mom's, but now, everyone comes to my house! I cook...which certainly not my forte!

You just gave me a great idea!

I think Christmas and freshly fallen snow is the best thing about winter.

I have way too many measuring cups.
But feel I need all of them :)

We have a big meal on Christmas Day.
Just a regular meal Christmas Eve.
We also open one present Christmas Eve.

I pray you have a wonderful Christmas!
