WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Push on the button, visit with Joyce and join in!

1. Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to mis-use, over-use or just general uselessness and they receive over 1000 nominations. Here are the fourteen words/phrases they'd like to see banished in 2011-viral, epic, fail, wow factor, a-ha moment, back story, BFF, man up, refudiate, Mama Grizzlies, The American People, facebook/google when used as verbs, I'm just sayin', and Live life to the fullest.
What word or phrase would you like to see banished from our everyday vocabulary in 2011? You can choose one from the 'official list' or you can get creative and come up with your own.
Well in the world of blogging I would like to see Word Verification removed!

2. Do you consider opportunity something that comes to you or something you create for yourself?
I think it can be a little of each. Like being in the right place at the right now.

3. Since we're all eating healthy this month, ahem, what's included in your favorite salad? Is there dressing?
Usually romaine lettuce, shredded cheese, feta cheese, sliced red peppers, tomatoes if I have them and a can of chicken. I like Ranch dressing.

4. The fourth Monday in January is said to be Blue Monday...aka the most depressing day of the year. The date was calculated using many factors including weather, debt level, time since Christmas, time since we've failed at our new year resolutions, low motivation and feeling a need to take action. Do you get the blues this time of year and if so what is something you do to lift your spirits?
I can have the blues any day of the week/year. I know that most people are down after Christmas, we put a lot of work into making our families happy. I lift my spirits by shopping online for great deals.

5. Do you wear a watch? Any other everyday jewelry essentials?
Yes I wear a watch but only when I leave the house. I always have on my wedding ring and earrings. I do have a ring that Mark bought me two years ago for Christmas I put on when I go out.

6. What is something useful you learned in high school?
I know I didn't learn much in drivers education when we sat and drove on simulated machines. It was like playing videos! Actually I didn't learn much in HS, really I never worked hard and really only graduated because the teachers liked me. Something I didn't know about HS at the time is that you can make friends and still have them 42 years later.

7. Do you use an accountant when completing and filing your income tax returns or do you attempt to muddle through all by yourself?
My husband does them. At times we have used an accountant but mainly when he worked from home.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
These were hard ones for me to answer!!!

I don't fill out income tax returns and haven't done for over five years now. The Inland Revenue just contacted me a few years back and told me I didn't need to in my current situation!!! However this year I will need to fill one out, since I will departing this lovely country of mine and I will do it with the help of my father (who fills tax forms out semi-professional for old people).

Great answers, and yes these were harder this time.

I'm with you on word verification! ha!

Yeah, these were a little harder this time. Maybe because they were so random?

hmmm, I didn't think about driving...I guess that is something useful most of us learned in highschool. These were hard, even for me : )

I have started collecting next week's questions and it will be a little bit lighter I think. Of course, I can complicate even the simplest of questions. In general, I think too much!

The only one I had trouble with was the High School one, because my High school experience was rather strange, but, all in all, not bad.
My Hubby does the taxes too.

I hate salad. that's why it's so hard for me to eat healthy. lol.

and i always wear my wedding ring but no other jewelry.

I'm not sure we need an official "blue" day! Lots of people I know are blue all the time and it makes me crazy! :)

I take my watch, engagement ring and any other jewely off as soon as I get home. They just bother me!

P. S. my husband is a CPA.....but lot's of people don't really need an accountant to do their work.

What a funny list! And Word Verification is annoying, especially when you can't read the word!

I heart your salad!

I think on the 4th Monday of the month (Jan), I'm going to call in and say I'm sick....blame it on Blue Monday!

I used to do our taxes, but then we had a kid and started taking deductions, etc....now someone else does them. :)

the only salad i eat is from mazzios but its usually loaded with everything haha
i dont remember a thing from hs except for my drivers ed class ..it was right before lunch so we would go when it was our turn to drive and get food! :)
im the same way tho just made it by lol
i might get depressed now on blue monday after reading that ..its in my head now haha but seriously there are no bad days u can always turn them around or laugh about them :)

I did a lot of talking in school, but the teachers passed my anyways.
I wonder, was it because they liked me or just wanted to get rid of me.

I do agree, these were hard questions. But, they were fun.

I can't believe they want to do away with all those words! That's ridiculous. We can never have enough words.

Have a great week, my friend!

You are right about high school friends...they get better the older we get!!

Blue Monday falls two days before my birthday this year, sometimes it falls on the day itself - bah humbug, I hate growing older every year anyways, should I blame the blues? ;-)

You inspired me to have a cesar salad for dinner tonight, yay!

Yes this was a great answer and thinking time for sure.. I love to eat some of the things you eat. I can be blue any time but try my best not to be... Have a great night.. Thanks for being such a great friend..

I never take off my wedding band either. I have a really cool ring that I wear almost every day! I need to do a blog about it. It is sterling silver but has marbles that you change- so I change them to match whatever I am wearing that day. I get so many compliments on it!
Hope you are well!
Hugs-
L

I am with you on the word verification thing, Debby....Christine

Your salad sounds very similar to mine. I really didn't put myself out too much in high school either.

On my blog you commented because I said I'd removed the word freakin'. You said you wouldn't use it in front of me. That's ok, I've heard my girls use it so much, that on occasion I've even used it too. So I promise I won't get upset if you do. :)

Those were tough ones! That list of words to banish is interesting in the fact that most of them are fairly current words from the last year or two. I'm just sayin' ...

Oh, those pesky word verifications can be so annoying!! And your salad sounds yummy and healthy. Feta cheese.... yum!! :-)

I do my taxes AND my ex-husband's taxes. I do all the billing and accounting for our business, so it makes sense for me to do the taxes, too.

And I never wear a watch.

I have my taxes done by a friend who is an accountant and does taxes on the side.

I'm with you--remove word verification!!! Get those decorations packed away...and hurry back to blogging :)

How fun. We go to an accountant now, as there is too much to figure out with me doing daycare and all that. One word I want to see removed from everywhere is the "R" word. One day I'm hoping this hurtful word is gone. Word verification drives me bonkers!
