WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Click on the button to join in on Joyce's Hodgepodge!

1. It's that most wonderful time of the year...tax season! Do you complete your own returns or farm that job out to the professionals?
Mark does our taxes.

2. This next question comes from Kansas Bob...he posed it in his response to something I asked in an earlier Wednesday post and I asked him if I could add it to the Hodgepodge some day. Today's the day....Which do you think has changed you more-love or pain?
Definitely pain!

3. Tangerine Tango has been named color of the year for 2012. Your thoughts? Would I find this color anywhere in your house? How about in your closet? If not, will you be adding this color to your life in some way in 2012?
Looks to coral for my taste. I do not think I will be using it anywhere.

4. Are you a collector? What do you collect and does it get admired, used, and/or dusted regularly?
I collect Jim Shore and Willow Tree pieces. They get admired in the family room and in the dining room. I have a small collection of Polish Pottery which we always put the snacks in at parties. I have a collection of giraffe figurines that are in the living room. I also have S & P shakers but they are not out on display. I also have a very large magnet collection but no place to put them in this house! I have a large collection of pine cones that are on display. I could go on and on. So the answer is yes I am a collector, not to mention all of my 800+ ornaments!

5. February is National Heart Month...besides a green salad what is one tasty heart healthy dish you like to prepare?
A glass of wine with a small bowl of almonds!

6. When was the last time you had car trouble?
Well actually my emissions light recently went on in my car but I'm waiting for the recall letter on the water pump to go to the dealer to get them looked at. So as I type I currently have car trouble!

7. Have you been more demanding on yourself lately or less? Is that a good trend?
I think I have been more demanding on myself when it comes to dieting. I am doing a great job but it is never easy. I am also trying to push myself to do more so both are a good trend for me!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Did anyone have the opportunity to watch "A Smile as Big as the Moon" on ABC Sunday night? It was a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie and it was so moving. The made-for-TV move starring John Corbett as football coach Mike Kersjes -- who wrote a book about taking 19 special education students to NASA Space Camp in 1989 -- will air again this weekend, making its debut on the Hallmark Channel. So set you DVR so you don't miss it. It will air at 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday an again at 2 p.m. Sunday. Another airing is scheduled for 4 p.m. Feb. 12 on the Hallmark Channel.

Also those of you who prayed for Marysa I am happy to say she is doing well and was at bowling yesterday. They are running several tests to see why is was so ill so you can continue to pray for good results. On a sad not one of our bowling friends is losing her battle with cancer. She comes from a family of 9 children, she and three of her sisters have been bowling with us for several years now. I know her entire family would appreciate your prayers.

Good update on Marysa. Thank you Debby for sharing. Blessings.

You have a lot of collections! I did see that movie and really liked it. Those kids worked hard to lean the skills needed to get to Space Camp! Continue to work towards a healthy you. It will be worth it.

I missed the movie and meant to tape it...I'll set my DVR for this weekend now, so thanks!

Yes, you are a collector : ) I'm glad your friend is doing well. I will add your bowling sister to my prayers. I hate cancer. It's everywhere. Blech!!

Glad to hear about Marysa. Definitely sending a prayer for your bowling friends’ family. My cousin lost his 17-year-oold daughter to leukemia (after having been in remission for 12 years) last year. It was a hard time for the whole family.

I like your heart-healthy snack! I can bring some dark chocolate to go with it! :D

Losing weight is hard work, but I know you can do it! I missed that movie ... I'll have to set my DVR.

I used to collect watering cans, but eventually had to say STOP...no place to keep putting them.

I'm so glad you told me about the Hallmark movie rerun....we have D*rect TV and right at the very last 5 minutes, it went out! I was so mad. It was a great movie so I'll be sure to record it!!!!

Glad one friend is better and so sorry for your other friend.

Debby, I'm so sorry about your bowling friend. Cancer is taking way too many friends from us. I loved your response to the healthy eating question, and of course, I can relate to your response about collections. laurie

I hate that 'C' word-hub has been diagnosed with colon cancer-last check-up was good-but now our superintendent's son (only 6) has 'C'-so sad. Praying for your friend.
Good answer to healthy eating.

There are so many people out there right now needing prayers. You got them.

And I think I will watch that show on Saturday - thanks you.

Knew you were a collector - lol

Love, sandie

I'd join you for the glass of wine and the almonds, but I'd also add a square of dark chocolate! :)

I'm happy to hear Marysa's doing well, and I'm sending long-distance sympathy and prayers for your friend who's battling cancer.

I have some Jim Shore and Willow Tree items too. I love them! I did watch the movie Sunday night. And it really was quite moving!

I had a friend who collected magnets. All on her fridge. Every time I was at her house, when she wasn't looking I'd turn them all upside down. Mean, I know! She finally caught on!

Kathy said...

Well, Debby, I think you and I are "soul sisters" in the collecting department! LOL

I saw the movie that you mentioned. It was a good story. Having worked in education for a number of years made it touch my heart even more...

HI! ah Tax season, ick!
that Tangerine Tango? isn't that the colour for Dodge? Also I think my oldest son would like it for his room.

Car troubles stink. I'm currently having some heating issues, and need to get an appointment to see what the heck is going on!. I love that tangerine color, maybe just toned down a bit:) Still sending prayers...

CiCi said...

Regarding question #2, if pain has changed you, is the change for the better or not? How?

I have been using tangerine colors and this year I have changed to PINK. Goes to show I do follow trends.

Keep on keepin' on, my friend.

I am SOOO not excited about doing my taxes this year! My sweetie doesn't handle any of the paperwork. Thankfully, my bestest buddy does taxes. She used to work for H&R Block, so she's good.

Thankfully we send our taxes to someone whose been doing them for Neil and his family for years. One less headache for us.

So sorry to hear about your bowling friend. Cancer is such a horrible disease! Sending prayers for both her and Marysa!

I'm struggling with exercise and diet right now. We need a new treadmill, but can't afford one. It's also out in the shed, so I'm in a very closed in space, junk piled all around me, and dealing with whatever the weather is throwing at us at the time since it's not insulated or have air conditioning for summer. Add to that the fact that the treadmill keeps shorting out, so it will completely stop in the middle of using it. It's hard enough for me to get the motivation to get myself out there on it, but add everything else into the mix that makes it even harder...and it made it easy for me to stop bothering. I'm thinking of looking into a work out DVD that I can use in the house. Good luck with your healthier eating! I know how hard it can be!

I think for me....pain and love. Both are very strong influences in my life.

I love your answer to #5.

I love coral and apricot and salmon and other orange-y colors, but not actual orange.

I'd say I've been deeply changed/moved by both love and pain.

I sent an invitation to my blog which I had to hide. If it didn't get to you, email me at undergroundblog11@gmail.com and I'll re-send.

I so agree with Pain!

I think Tango dont :)

I love all your collections :). I haven't been much over the years.

LOVED LOVED that movie it's still on my DVR to watch again!

The income tax things is a weird one. My family has always gone to someone so when I started filing, I went to their person. One year I decided to "save money" and do it myself. Because I have a 1099 I couldn't file on Turbo Tax for free and I ended up paying them as much as I pay my person. So.....needless to say I am back to using a specialist :)
