1. What do the words 'freedom' and 'liberty' mean to you? Does your mind go more
in the direction of not being persecuted or discriminated against or does it
head in the direction of doing what you please?
I'm not really sure on this one. I think that we are in so much trouble that we don't mean much at all anymore and that makes me sad.

2. Nathan's
sponsors a hot dog eating contest every 4th of July. Last year over 40,000
people attended the event and almost 2 million watched it on TV. The winner ate
over 60 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. How do you like your hot dogs?
I like my Hot Dogs with mustard!
3. If you were going to enter an eating contest what would be on the menu?
Pizza....duh! I swear I can eat pizza for ever.

4. Do you run your house more as a dictatorship or a democracy?
I would say that years ago I was pretty much of a dictator. Now I don't run much of anything!
5. Where was your favorite summer place when you were a kid?
Well we use to go to a home that my grandparents had in Union Pier, MI. I remember it but I was very young when we did that. The memories with my children at a cottage near Antioch, IL that my dad use to have are my favorite memories and my children cherish them too. This picture is from when we visited in October 2010. I love this photo because the pier shows the years of being used in the past. This is where the memories were made! Doesn't it scream sadness of years gone by?
6. Do you have a guest room? Would you want to stay there?
Yes we actually have two guest rooms that I would love to stay in. I have two guest rooms that I would love to be able to have company stay in, only problem is Amber & Dylan live in them now for over two years. One is their bedroom and one is their tv room. (actually it's not a problem other than the fact that we can't have company visit)
7. Next Wednesday America celebrates her independence. Do you have any
special plans for the 4th of July? If you live outside the USA when and how does
your country celebrate its own patriotic holiday?
For the first time ever we will not be home for the 4th of July. I will miss watching all the surrounding towns fireworks from our backyard. We will be in Mammoth Lakes this year and outside of town at Crowley Lake there are supposed to be fireworks. I love fireworks!!!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I have to say I am sitting here with a hurting heart. As you know my dad turned 89 yesterday. My sister, brother-in-law and 2 nieces in their 30's all live close by. Not one of them went over to be with my dad or take him out for dinner. See on Saturday my great-niece turned 16 so they sang happy birthday to him there at the party. Do you really think that was enough?....I don't :( He sat home all day on his 89th birthday! I hope they called him.
Because Mark and I have our anniversary the day before I am not normally with my dad on his birthday. I have been with him for the other important big numbers. Since we were celebrating our marriage from 40 years ago and we leave for Mammoth Lakes on Saturday I didn't go this year. Also I am planning on taking the whole family down next summer for his 90th. Now I feel bad that I didn't go this year to be with him.

His 90th will be an awesome one! Glad your great-niece made him feel special :). Pizza is amazing :)
I'm sure your dad understands about you being so far away. He now has an better reason to hang around for the 90th! Plan a nice big party because if I was turning 90, I'd want one.
I hope your dad's day was special in some way too. You have an awesome view from your back yard...have fun as you travel this holiday week!
Aww that breaks my heart. I hope your dad had a good birthday though. My hotdogs must have onions, ketchup and mustard:)
I like my hot dogs with ketchup, but like you, I could have pizza for every meal!
I have two guest rooms that I love, but man I hope they stay empty now for a few weeks!!!
That is so sad about your dad! Are you and your sister close? Believe me, I have a brother who has to pass my mama's twice a day and he seldom and I do mean SELDOM ever stops. It breaks my heart!
My heart hurts that yours does. I hope your dad had a wonderful day and I know the big 90 will be a blow out. You should get all your blogging buddies to send him cards...that would be fun.
Still Magnolia has a wonderful idea!
I just realized that my dad will be turning 90 next year ... he's not into big parties, but we have to make a special occasion out of it somehow! ;-)
First Happy Anniversary! I could eat Pizza 7 days a week...it is my favorite food.
And it makes me sad too that your precious Dad was alone on his birthday. What a blessing to be 89 and still be so independent.
Enjoy your vacation Debby!
Not much of a pizza fan; however, hub could eat pizza constantly.
I am sure your dad understands why you were unable to be with him, and I know how you feel.
Have a safe, happy Fourth of July.
Oh How sad about your Dad. I am saying a prayer they somehow make him feel special and loved. You are a good daughter to him! Is that your back yard? AMAZING:) I hope you have a delightful trip to Mammoth!
Fourth of July without fireworks is a "no-go" for me too!
I hear you on the pizza, I have definite control issues there and could probably eat it until I'm sick given the opportunity!
It's so hard being away from our loved ones, especially our parents :) Praying you have a wonderful trip to Mammoth :)
You are a good daughter and I am sorry no one went to be with him on his birthday. That is sad and would bother me too. Sometimes I just don't know what people are thinking...or maybe they are just not thinking!
You are a great daughter, wife, mother, friend (((hugs)))...I understand no one being there with him for his birthday, but I know next year is gonna rock for him and you guys!
Don't feel bad, Debby; I know it would have been nice if someone had stepped in and at least taken your dad to lunch for his birthday, but don't beat yourself up too bad about it. I think that is nice that you are taking everyone down there next year for his 90th!!
betty
Oh that is so sad that nobody went to see your dad on his 89th birthday. I feel for you but I am sure he kmnows how much you love him. Don't feel bad, Debby. My mom turns 94 net month and I decided to attend her party in Waukegan, ILL. I am familiar with Antioch. I used to work in Libertyville....Christine
Well I do have to say that was a little sad that his family did not come see him. I hate to judge though.
Okay both being from Chicago - do you remember the Chicago Dog?
Love, sandie
:-( That makes me a bit sad too... I have been blessed to have older relatives (My grandpas lived both to 92 and I had a Great Auntie I was really close with and my Nan is going to be 94 in August). I feel badly when I can't spend a lot of time with her. I hope they called~ or that he had other friends and people to spend some time with.
(((hugs)))
Ps. I could eat pizza every day too! I love it!!!! (wish I didn't love it quite so much!) ;-)
Those hot dog eating contests totally gross me out. Yuck. Nothing against hot dogs, but it's gross to eat 60 at once.
That's sad about your dad..but your heart Debby is in the right place. 60 hotdogs????? yikes. Can't imagine that they wouldn't throw up after five. If I can an eating contest it would be potato chips. Yum. Have a great thursday out there.....hope it's not as hot as they say it'll be up here.
Pizza is the best! While it sounds like his 89th was not as great as it could be his 90th will be fab! Happy travels!
Living at a distance from family just sucks. I'm the only one in my family that moved away and it always grates on me when those closer don't appreciate the gift they have by being able to see Mom and Dad whenever they want.
On a happier note - congratulations on your anniversary!!! We are celebrating our 30th this year. Hope you have a marvelous trip and enjoy the fireworks.
I'm with you on the pizza eating contest. I can't imagine eating more than one hot dog at a time, but pizza...lots and lots and lots.
My heart is hurting for your dad too. I really do hope they called him too, and why they couldn't at least go sit and chat with him for a bit on his special day, I don't know.
That's sad the family thought singing to him at someone else's party was enough. I'm sure he is comforted by the fact you called and you love hime very much!
I keep trying to get my aunt and my mother to just move down here with us. They are way too independent to even consider it but I would LOVE it if they were here. I'm so sorry no one spent your dad's b'day with him. I keep thinking about my parents and just how many more birthdays they're going to have. I'm not cool with this whole aging parents thing. I love that picture of the lake! Pizza is definitely on my list of top 5 favorite foods!
Loved reading about you.
Happy Anniversary and birthday to your dad.
Have a blast in Mammoth. I know you love being there.
Looking forward to some great pictures.
89...wow..he looks fabulous!! happy birthday to him...and happy anniversary to you.
