So last Friday we headed out around 8:45am to Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a nice drive.
We stopped in Barstow which is only about an hour from the house to do a little shopping a Bass. My husband likes their jeans and he was in need of a few new pairs. Since he has been dieting too he has gone down a size! I got three new peasant style blouses at Van Heusen. I haven't been able to wear their largest size in years but now I can. Got an orange, navy and white! I can wear them out or if not they are great tops for around the house.
We were staying at The Orleans which is off the strip. The main reason is because that is where we bowl and it just makes it convenient for me. This year Mark went with me so he drove but normally Amber has gone with me and we park the car on Friday and pick it up on Monday! Believe me I can sit in front of any keno machine. I have never been disappointed in my stay at The Orleans. We go to Vegas a few times a year so I have seen pretty much every casino and have been going for the last 18 years with my bowling league.
We arrived in Vegas around 1pm and got checked into our room. Of course I couldn't wait to get down to the machines. We meet up with Headless Mom, my bowling Buddie, for a nice dinner at The Prime Rib Loft at The Orleans. Friday was not my night for gambling. I was just feeding the machines so I ended going up to the room by about 9:30pm. Mark on the other hand was up about $400. He plays blackjack at the tables. I play nickel keno.
Got up and had a wonderful breakfast before bowling at noon. If you have followed me for awhile you would know that I am not a very good bowler. Only have a 125 average and in Vegas it is always lower. But Headless had a great day and won some money at our sweeps. I have to admit, and Mark will second this, I was in a bad mood because I sucked. Afterwards I went back to the casino to gamble. Mark headed out to Bass Pro Shop to do a little shopping. Yes we have one nearby us here in Rancho Cucamonga but California laws don't let them sell certain things that he likes to use when he goes shooting.
I was luckier on Saturday. I won a $150. pot and also a $200. pot. Not bad for 20 cent bets! Mark on the other hand lost most of that $400. Saturday night. It's a gamble....duh! Actually for the weekend of gambling and I do sit there for hours on end I broke even. I came home with the money I took minus a little bit for things I bought. As much as I would love to win a nice pot, I am super thrilled to play on their money all weekend and bring mine back home. That doesn't happen very often.
On Sunday morning we got up and took a drive to Hoover Dam. We haven't been there in years and it was fun to visit again. They have a beautiful new bridge that bypasses the dam. (I only had my phone with me so the pictures are not perfect) We had a really nice time walking around and oh boy was it hot outside! Found some awesome smashed pennies for Amber too!
After going to Hoover Dam we headed back to The Orleans for a few hours. Mark did some work on his computer and I of course gambled. Then we went to Fogo De Chao for dinner. It was my first time eating at one, Mark has been to several around the country and thought I would enjoy it. I did! It is certainly a different dining experience. The salad bar, if you want to call it that, was amazing. You could spend all night just eating from it.
Then they start with the meats. (sorry vegetarians) You have a card you flip over saying you want them to come over with the meats on skewers and slice it onto your plates. Then you flip it over while your enjoying your dinner. If you want more just flip it back over to the other side and they start coming around again. Yes we shared some cheesecake for dessert!

I gambled for awhile after we got back. Big surprise, right!!! Mark went up to the room to finish the project he was working on. I didn't gamble too long, I was tired. We ended up watching a movie in the room called Wanderlust with Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd. It was a silly movie but I must say I laughed a lot!
I really had a great time :) Thank you honey for going with me and putting up with me!
What did you do last weekend?
Hope this weekend is good to you! Take care and God Bless.

Sounds like you had fun and getting Smaller size clothes is a big plus! Where did you find your twitter and Facebook buttons? I like how they look.
What a fun weekend! I have been to Vegas once. We never made it to the Hoover Dam while there (we did make it to Grand Canyon though!)
Loved the Hoover Dam shots. I think it is amazing. I am glad you guys had a great time in Vegas.
I'm so glad you had a good time, it sounds like so much fun!
Glad you had a nice time.
Congrats on the weight loss! Keep it up! ;-)
I've never been to Vegas (unless you count a layover at the airport last year), but DH has. I'm not much of a gambler, but I would like to see Hoover Dam.
Sounds like a great time! I may have told you i used to bowl about 35 years ago. I was terrible. Glad you didn't lose all your money! :)
I've only been to Vegas once, but we had a great time!
I'm thrilled that you had such a good time and even came back with some new tops.
So fun. I love to hear about your fun adventures.
I had a rare weekend off of sports last weekend and worked on Brady's room. It's almost done (crib arrived yesterday) and I will post photos next week :)
Hugs,
Trisha
That sounds like a lot of fun. I'm glad that Mark went. BOOOO on the losses. :P
Sounds like fun! I've never been that direction but I'd love to see the Hoover Dam someday.
I love your trip stories and the beautiful pictures you always share.Debby thank you for all your prayers for my daughter and family.
It does look like a great trip, Debby! That restaurant you ate at on your last night there does sound delicious! I'll have to remember that if I'm every that way! Glad to hear Mark made it back safe and sound from Brazil. Have a great weekend!
betty
Believe me - my weekend was nothing like yours. You had so much fun - gambling and bowling. Glad you broke even and didn't lose any money.
When we were there last we saw the Hoover Damn too - AWESOME.
sandie
You did good girl! I am a chicken & can't stand to lose a penny so I can't gamble or I'd have a heart attack! :)
I am really jealous though because my BFF lives in vegas & I miss her soooo much! I am glad you had such a fun time Debby!
I have stayed at the Orleans. I really liked the atmosphere although I didn't come home with more than what I came with. The restaurant sounds delicious though. Nothing like cheesecake to finish off the night.
woo hoo on the wins....sounds like you had a great time....reading your post makes me want to jump in the car and head out on an adventure. Hope this weekend is another great one for you
What a great weekend you had! When I lived in Seattle my friends and I would fly into either Vegas or Reno for a weekend of fun - like you, I usually end up breaking even by the end of the weekend, though sometimes I'd end up going home with a little extra which made me happy.
I think it's cool you bowl with a league and that you guys go to Vegas each year - I have fond memories of getting to tag along with my mom when she was part of a league. You'd think that her mad bowling skillz would have been passed down to me, but sadly I suck. ;)
I'm intrigued by the restaurant - I'll have to see if there's one on our route to Seattle (we'll be driving through Nevada to Reno before heading North to WA). :)
Have a great weekend, Debby! :)
Let me tell you, your weekend was far more active than mine! I was aaaallllllll alone though, and that was nice. Hubby fishing. Congrats on breaking even.
I love your stories & I'm trying to catch up on reading. What a fun time. :)
So jealous, wish we could just pop over to Vegas for a weekend!
