WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Join us, it's fun!

1. Americans will celebrate Labor Day this coming weekend. Do you know what we're actually celebrating? (without consulting your friends Google or wikipedia, ahem) What's a project you're currently 'laboring' over?
Well I thought I knew but I wanted Mark to confirm it so I cheated. It is a day to honor the working man. That is what I thought! I am always laboring over clutter that needs to be gone from my life.

2. Labor Day also signals the unofficial end of summer for most of us...what summer food will you miss the most? If you're in the southern hemisphere feel free to substitute winter for summer.
I love my blackberries. I will see them at Costco throughout the year and although they are very good it's not quite the same as the summer ones.

3. A well known proverb states, 'It's easier to seek forgiveness than ask permission.' Your thoughts?
Haven't heard that one. I don't quite get it. What's wrong with asking permission. I think asking for forgiveness would be harder and make you feel really bad.

4. Food critic, film critic, book critic, art critic....which hat would you most like to wear?
Film critic would be my choice.

5. When you were a kid, who (besides your parents) was your favorite adult?
I think my grandparents on both sides. Can't pick just one.

6. The astronaut, Neil Armstrong, passed away last week. He was regarded as a hero by many generations of people all around the world. Do we still have modern day heroes? What makes someone a hero?
I believe a hero is someone who sacrifices himself to help others. In my opinion I believe all the parents in this world who have lost a child are my heroes.

7. I never get tired of __________________.
Watching my favorite movies over and over again.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
So I told you about going to the The Wizard of Oz on the big screen Sunday night with Mark. We had the best time. It was a fantastic experience and I didn't have a clue that Dorothy had freckles! The best part for us was watching Toto. Since our Skye and Toto are the same breed it was really fun watching him. We could see our Skye in Toto.

Great answers. I did your 15 vocalist meme....on my hodgepodge this week. I love your new look.

Really like the look of your blog. Nice answers. Watching old movies is fun, I still watch It's a Wonderful Lifev in black and white.

Ahh I'll miss blackberries too! Lovin' the new look! :)

Glad you enjoyed the show : ) I haven't had a lot of blackberries this summer. We get a lot of strawberries and blueberries because they grow here. I love a blackberry cobbler-yum!

I, too, can watch my favorite movies over and over and over. ;-) DD bought some blackberries the other day at the store, and they were very good ... and they are huge -- almost the size of my thumb! I love blackberries plain, but I especially love them in blackberry cobbler.

I can watch favorite movies over and over again too! My husband just doesn't get that! :)

The one thing about Labor day here in the south that I hate and don't abide by is not wearng white after LD....aint happening at my house! It's hot here, we can wear white all year long! :)

So glad you loved the Wizard of Oz on the big screen!

When I was in management, my supervisor would sometimes tell me to 'do it'...'we can ask for forgiveness later', when I would worry about my decisions. ;-))

I haven't had a blackberry in ages! We used to pick wild ones, and I'd make jelly--way back in the day!

Dorothy had freckles? Who knew?!

Loved your answer for the proverb. I agree! I listed my 15 vocalists in my post today. How fun!

You and my hubby would get along beautifully! I stand in amazement at how he can watch movies over and over, again...even quoting lines! Blows me away!

I would definitely be an art critic. Favorite grown ups when I was a child would be... Grandma and my mother's awesome cousin who sang in a band.
Blessings, Joanne

My grandparents were great too- but I was closer to my mother's parents. I miss them to this very day. You and my brother are the only two people I know who like blackberries. LOL

#3 is a saying that means if there is something that you want to do and you are not sure if it is allowed you can either just do it (and ask forgiveness if you get in trouble) or ask permission and take the chance the authority figure will say no.

Personally I feel so bad if I don't ask permission just worrying if I will get into trouble, that it would ruin whatever i was doing anyway...I can't help it, I am a rule follower :)

I use number 3 all the time. If you ask and are told no - then you can;t do it. If you go ahead and do it and then get in trouble - the trouble isn't as bad. lol sandie

Hub never tires of watching movies over and over. Speaking from experience losing a child is one of the hardest moments of my life.

I think heroes are the ones that help others without asking for anything in return...do not want to be recognized for what they do...someone that saves another persons life...someone that deals with a tragedy in their life...I don't think celebs or sports stars are heroes..

Watching old movies on the big screen is really a great experience. I remember going to The Magnificent Seven one time. It was never a movie that I was that hot about. I'd seen bits and pieces of it on tv from time to time, but my dad really wanted to go. Oh man, it was so unbelievable. After that, I understood why it had been on tv so often!

You never know: you might get permission and then won't have any problems with asking forgiveness later.

I will miss corn on the cob and garden tomatoes. And blackberries too - although I did stash some in the deep freezer for this winter!

This will probably be our last weekend grilling out and cold salads, oh how I'll miss them! So glad you had a wonderful time at the show!

I'm working on decorating a beach house that we bought in the spring. Whew! hard work! But fun, too! Will blog all about it soon.
I'll miss fresh corn and tomatoes...love them!
I would like to be a film critic. Obviously they need someone with morals and values to be heard!
Loved my aunt Marie///she was tops!

Hi Debby! I am Debbie, too! I saw your comment over at Sandra's Mad Snapper. Your blog name caught my eye.
Wonderful ministry you have...we know several families that have lost children. God has used them to care for others who have had the same experience and I am sure God is blessing many through you. What a wonderful way to spread His love!

So true about hero's!!

I'm still so jealous about the wizard of Oz that really must have been an amazing treat!

I think it is so cool that you got to see the Wizard of Oz on the big screen. My girl would love to go and see that, heck I would too.

Happy Labour Day weekend. I knew hat the weekend was about but I do wonder if Canada was just following the USA? or the other way around?

I'm with you! Why's it so hard to ask permission? Having to ask for forgiveness makes me feel awful!

Nani said...

I knew you'd pick film critic! I'd love to see Wizard of Oz on the big screen! I saw Gone With The Wind in the theater a few years ago; incredible!

Glad you liked the movie (and thank you for #6)!
(((hugs)))

I always went by, "It's easier to GET forgiveness than to GET permission. It worked for me throughout my teaching career.
Since I quit teaching my perception of Labor Day has changed quite a bit!
