WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE 12-12-12

It's 12-12-12 today!
Hop, skip or jump on over
to Joyce's blog and join in the fun!

1. So, when did you last take a walk in the woods? A stroll along the beach? A drive going nowhere in particular in the car?
That would have been in July in Mammoth Lakes. A stroll along the beach would have been in May of this year. We did stroll along Navy Pier in Chicago on Lake Michigan in September! We seldom go on a drive to nowhere, my husband doesn't roll that way.

2. Are you sending Christmas cards this year? About how many do you send? Photo card or something more traditional? How do you display the cards you receive?
Yes we are sending cards. That is one tradition I am not going to stop doing. We are down to about 60 each year. Generally more traditional but this year we are doing a photo card. We had a cute picture from the wedding and I won a Tiny Prints Gift Card. I have a few different ways I display our cards.

3. What's a word you've heard too much of in the past week?
Probably the Fiscal Cliff!

4. December 13th is National Cocoa Day-are you a fan? Plain or flavored? Marshmallows or no marshmallows?
I'm not much of a Cocoa drinker although it was cold at Epcot and I had some. I like it plain and yes I do love marshmallows! (they didn't offer marshmallows at Epcot:)

5. What is something you do to help alleviate the hectic pace of the Christmas season?
I make a lot of lists, I enjoy watching Christmas movies and maybe a little wine in the evening :)

6. Besides jewelry, what's a favorite sparkly-glittery item in your home or closet?
Not me....I'm not very sparkly-glittery! I have a denim shirt that I don't wear anymore that had snowflakes with sparkles on the tips of each one.  Truthfully my closet is filled with all of my Christmas decorations so there is a lot of other sparkle in my closet.

7. Share a favorite line or two from any Christmas carol.
From "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas":
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Will be near to us once more

Truth be told I want this song played at my memorial service. People know that I love Christmas! What I get from these two lines from this song is that it's all about meeting each other in Heaven when we pass. I want my family to feel peace in their hearts about the promise we have from God.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Finito! I'm done shopping....hip hip hooray!!! House is almost done being decorated other than some ornaments on the trees. Putting the ornaments on always takes time, they have to be perfect, but I am sure I will be done by the weekend. (I end up moving and changing as I go along) Need to put my cards in the mail but they are easy this year with a picture card...all I have to do is put on my printed label and a stamp!

The out of town gifts were all mailed yesterday so all I have to do is wrap about 40+ gifts for Christmas day. I have plenty of time and will do that while I watch all the Hallmark/Lifetime Christmas movies I've been taping. I will also do some baking this week for bowling next Tuesday and then I will do some family favorites for Christmas Day. I feel very relaxed and so very happy to be almost done!

One more thing to share...my husband travels a lot and he uses a Chase Credit Card where he earns points. After two years of travels we were able to get a check for $1,600. to use for Christmas shopping. It paid for more than half of this years gifts. Who knew!!!!

I walk in the woods and along the lake all the time, so that one is easy for me. No sparkly/glittery stuff in my closet either. And about your random thought - my credit card has airplane miles. I'm up to 210,000 and looking forward to one day cashing them in on a big trip somewhere.

Gosh I have to admit that I don't send out Christmas cards - I stopped a couple years ago. And I like my hot chocolate with lots of chocolate and milk. And Fiscal Cliff! sandie

You and I answered #3 the same way! And #4, too. ;-)

Way to go on the check for Christmas shopping! We have a Discover Card which gives us a cash back bonus ... we have earned a $400 bonus since February ... I thought we had really racked up the bonus until I read yours!

I did cards this year, picture ones, but I have only received a handful. I just don't think many people send them anymore.

I love sending and receiving cards and I hope people keep that tradition going. We have a Chase card but it gives us United points. We use them in abundance : )

I'm close to finishing my shopping. Decorating is done and I bake throughout the month so that never stresses me out. I need to wrap, but usually do that in one or two sittings. Enjoy December!

Yes on the Fiscal Cliff! Ugh. Make a decision already! Love your background!

I won't repeat the lines from my favourite song, since they don't sound very nice. They always bring a smile to my face though when I hear them. The song is Fairytale in New York by the Pogues.

Wonderful Christmas bonus with that check Debby!!! It is amazing how rewards like that can add up! WTG for being finished shopping! Seems like you are ahead of the game in preparations for Christmas!!!

Oh how wonderful to get that check, Debby! Those rewards add up sometimes to be really great. You are finito! Good for you, I feel like I'm paddling upstream trying to get to that point. Also, to bake or not to bake - I'm now thinking bake because I can give some to the new neighbors who have been so friendly. I used to bake a ton for friends, neighbors and family, but we are small this year. Think I will do some anyway. Ann

I'm amazed at how many answered fiscal cliff...too funny. Yay for being done with your shopping! I'm almost there myself...hip, hip, hooray! Yeah...that extra money at Christmas sure does come in handy, doesn't it?

You know I never even thought of Fiscal Cliff....guess I just blot it out when I hear it now. Glad you are done with shopping and that your check helped pay for this years gifts. Well done!

Amen to Fiscal Cliff!!! I haven't even started Christmas shopping. There just isn't enough money or time anymore.

#7 YES! it's a beautiful song. I think of the movie Meet me in St. Lois though when I hear it.

When I hear "fiscal cliff" my brain just blocks out hat comes next so I just don't notice it for it to bug me. My bank does a rewards program that I always forget about. When OI do check in,there's always enough point to deposit $100 into my savings account. Not too shabby! I wonder if they depend on people forgetting?

I'm kind of irritated with hearing about those of you who are done with Christmas shopping. LOL I haven't even started yet. I'm just not feeling it this year as far as the gifts go. I know I have to get it in gear though. Wine with the Christmas movies? Haven't tried that. Yet. :)

Wow so cool about your hubby travel perk! I got the 40 % off I never do it unless I save. I think I'm almost done a couple things left but pretty stress less this year. Have a great day!

You and I are so much alike! It takes me forever to decorate my trees, and I'm constantly moving the ornaments to find "just the right spot"!

Wow, you have to wrap 40+ gifts, that's a lot of shopping! Yay for those Hallmark/Lifetime Christmas movies :)

You're like me with those Hallmark and Lifetime movies. I have a HUGE number of them waiting to be watched and there's not one I haven't loved yet. So cheesy and so feel good!

Jealous that you're done shopping. I'm close though!
