In preparation for The Academy Awards we went to see Zero Dark Thirty on Saturday. I thought the movie was very good. It is very intense and I never got board with it. It runs 2:38 minutes. This seems to be the year for some very long running movies! This movie is about the capture of Osama Bin Laden and Jessica Chastain was excellent. (Of course I loved her in The Help)
Then on Sunday morning we went to see Silver Linings Playbook. Of course with no football I can actually get Mark out of the house on the weekend. He left this morning for Brazil and won't be home until Saturday evening and hopefully without complications so he doesn't miss Super Bowl Sunday! This movie wasn't on Mark's list of movies to see but I felt he would like it after my friend The Boston Lady shared with me how much she liked it. So I twisted his arm....
Well the movie was excellent. We loved it and Mark can't stop talking about how much he enjoyed it. I am so happy it was nominated. Most likely it won't take a lot of awards because Hollywood always seems to go for the big production movies however Jennifer Lawrence did win an award at the Golden Globes for her performance in the movie. I generally will grade a movie according to if I will buy it and I will buy this movie! Can't wait to see it again..... (of course Bradley Cooper is fun to look at any day of the week)
So this week while Mark is gone I hope to push myself to get out of the house and see a few of the movies he doesn't care to see. I know that Les Miserables is one of them, Life of Pi and so is Argo. We will see Lincoln when he gets home since it's at our $5. Tuesday's theatre. I love being ready for The Academy Awards. How about you?

You're so good about getting out there to see the nominated films. I was going to go to Zero Dark Thirty Saturday too but I got lazy and did the Redbox thing instead.
I've heard great things about that movie and after your review I want to see it even more!
Great reviews, Debby! I'd love to see Silver Linings Playbook and Lincoln. Of course, with the cost of movies these days, we usually wait until they come out on Redbox.
I'd like to see Life of Pi and Lincoln.
I'd like to see Silver Linings Playbook, but I will wait, as I do with all movies, until it's available on DVD. I haven't gotten television in a while, so I won't see the Academy Awards. But even when I used to watch them, I'd get bored early and wander away. Not that the movies awarded aren't good, just the ceremenoy itself doesn't hold me.
I have been wanting to go to the cinema here, but I haven't yet made up my mind as to what film I am going to see!
I love the Academy Awards too. I haven't seen the movies - not all of them - but when they come out - I will rent them. You help me with them. I love to star gaze on the red carpet.
Have fun! sandie

Glad to hear "Silver Linings Playbook" is good, because I definitely want to go see it! You won't be disappointed with Lincoln. It was incredible.
Thanks for the Silver Linings Playbook comment. I want to see it. I have not been to the movies lately....we have been too busy.
I don't watch the Academys.
Weird I know.
I do want to see the 0Dark Thirty.
Usually I am but something funny this year I just can't get into it :(
I love you catch up all the movies!
All of the lovelies LOVED The Life of Pi--the book. I don't think they've seen the movie though. I tried and tried but couldn't get into the book at all. Maybe it's over my head. LOL Sure wish my husband traveled for work. Of course, I'm the one that won't leave the house during football season. LOL
We haven't been to the movies in ages...but so many of these we really want to see :) Maybe we would get to the movies more if we had a $5 theater near us! That's a deal!
Sounds like you have a busy movie week...
I want to see all of them, but the only one I did see was Argo. It was very good!
The only thing I get to see are kids movies, and then I'm asleep within ten minutes! Thanks for the reviews. Hopefully I can rent them soon.
Blessings, Joanne
Well, you know I love to prep for "the big night"!!! I am so glad you enjoyed Silver Linings so much - I feel exactly the same way about it and although I think it is facing tough competition this awards season, it is a victory in itself that it has been such a critical as well as popular success. It's one of those little movies that is full of such wonderful moments.
Argo is another one of my favorites and I think you will enjoy it very much. I am getting a kick out of seeing Ben Affleck hang in there with the big boys. Ann
I haven't been to see a movie in a long time. You're lucky that you get to see so many. I would have like to see Lincoln, that sounded really good.
Ohhh! It's been so long since I've seen a movie and there are so many that I want to see (and I don't usually say that or even know about the movies). I don't know much about Silver Lining... but I have heard it mentioned. I heard that Lincoln and Les Mis were fabulous and I REALLY want to see them! I need more hours in the day (or days in the weekend!!!)
