When the Oscar nominations come in I get a bit obsessive with seeing the nominated movies. I ended up seeing 5 movies last week and I enjoyed each one. I was having a bad week, wasn't in the mood to read posts and I'll do whatever I can to avoid housework.
Tuesday afternoon I went to see Les Miserables.....LOVED IT! I knew nothing about the story, never read the book, saw the play or saw the other movie with Liam Neeson. So I guess you could say I went in blind and walked out with my eyes wide open. I am a sucker for a musical but I have to say that I just loved the story. I think I may need to buy the book. Now does anyone else think Eddie Redmayne is adorable. I have to admit I fell in love with him in My Week with Marilyn! The entire cast of Les Miserables was excellent.
In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole, agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's daughter, Cosette. The fateful decision changes their lives forever.

Life of Pi....me oh my! This movie was spectacular and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Had no idea going in what it was about. Wasn't even sure I wanted to see it but since it was nominated I thought I would give it a try. I ended up seeing it in 3D because of the showtime and that just enhanced the movies beauty. I will buy this movie when it comes out on DVD. Go see it!
A young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor ... a fearsome Bengal tiger.

I went to see Argo and it excellent. I am so glad I saw it. I'm sorry but I never quite seem to have the right words to describe the movies I see. This story was so interesting. Here I was actually living through the time period of this movie and really didn't know about this.
I have mentioned before that I don't read the paper or watch the news. I pretty much live in my own little world and looking back at this now that is very sad. I would like to say I would have prayed for these people but I didn't really pray back in the 70's and I want to apologize for my ignorance and lack of compassion. What Tony Mendez did to rescue six U.S. diplomats from Tehran, Iran, during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis was truly amazing. You need to see this movie.

Wreck-it-Ralph was a fun movie. I decided to see it because it is up for Animated Feature however I haven't seen the other nominated animated films. The showtime was right and it was only $5. I really did enjoy it and I happen to like John C. Riley who does the voice of Ralph. I am a huge fan of animated films. I watch Tangled all the time! Wish I had gotten to the show to see Brave but I hope to see it soon.
A video game villain wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives.

So did you ever see the movie Knocked Up with Katherine Heigl? This is 40 is a bit of a spin off of that movie and focuses on her sisters family from the movie. No this is not up for an award but I have been wanting to see it because I enjoy Paul Rudd movies. This was a fun movie for me and I will buy this movie when it comes out on DVD.
A look at the lives of Pete and Debbie a few years after the events of Knocked Up.

So there you have it. Each movie is different and in their own category but I enjoyed each one. Actually I am usually pretty easy to please when it comes to movies :) I guess if I was a movie critic I would have to be more critical with what I say. I like going to the show and I like being entertained.

I haven't seen any of those. I read Life is Pi and Les Mis though. I'd like to see Les Mis especially.
Thanks for all the reviews! I thought Les Mis was great. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for your takes on these movies. I won't see them before Oscar Night, but I will definitely see them.
Great reviews....I haven't watch any of those movies. We never go to the theater I always wait for On demand. I read the book Life of Pi and loved it and have seen the musical Les Miserables many times and love it....I can't wait for them all to be released on video.
Happy Sunday!
I liked Argo... Les Miserables was good but I think I would enjoy a live version better... Great reviews
Thank you for the movie commentaries - love them. I also went and printed the ballot. Of course I lost your blog and had to go back and retrieve it to leave a message. Have a good day Debby. sandie
You have been a busy girl....I saw Lincoln and Silver Lining Playbook. Would like to see Les Miserables if I could get someone to go with me....I noticed it wasn't nominated for the music award....Life of Pi looks like a fun movie....
I don't watch the news or read newspapers either.
Mama Bear
I agree about Argo - so interesting and suspenseful. I also caught Lincoln so I think that should win over Argo. Fun being a critic isn't it?
enjoyed the movie reviews, Debby. I have heard nothing but good things about Les Miserables. Will have to catch that plus I also wanted to see Argo. We just don't seem to make it to the movies too often these days, but need to make an effort to do so as I do enjoy a good film.
betty
I haven't seen any of them, but you know, I'm the yin to your yang when it comes to movies; we provide the balance in the universe! :)
I do want to see Les Mis and probably will when it comes in On Demand video. I've never seen the show or read the book either, but I love the music!
I love Tangled! It's so funny. And what about Wall-E? So moving.
Have not seen any of the others, although I might go and see Les Miserables. It's in English isn't it? (French with Norwegian subtitles does my head in)
Thanks Debbie! Liked Les Miz and Argo. Heading to see Pi on Wednesday.
I have not seen any of them, I never seem to make it to the movies anymore. I will have to rent Les Mes when it comes out.
I love you go see all these! I so want to see Wreck-it Ralph!
Rick and I went and saw Zero Dark Thirty Saturday night, interesting movie. It was a Rick movie. I know it shouldn't bother me but the torture scene's got me.
I love Paul Rudd and want to see that movie! And I still want to see Life of Pi.
This post made me want to get to the movies!!! I LOVED Les Mis the musical... they all sound so great! I haven't seen any of them (I also haven't heard of most). Thanks for the review!! <3
Debby, you summed them up perfectly. And I would say you would be a very good critic because you have a very open mind and enjoy a variety of movie genres. I do too. Ann
