We had a turtle named Elmer for many years. I am so fond of them. We brought him home from Illinois one summer in my son's pocket through security. Then we had a jar for him on the flight. We had him for many years. About six years ago my husband took him to the stream at his shooting range and set him free. I think of him often. He actually knew his name and would look at you when you said it!
You looking at me?????
This guy was so funny rolling along the window.
They said it is common for them to roll to get to places.
One of my favorite animals.....the giraffe above is pregnant!
See the baby behind the mama....
Mama Panda
This baby was adorable,
almost fell several times while exploring!
Protea....don't you just love them?
There are many varieties and we first were introduced to
them when my MIL lived in South Africa years ago.
My $5.35 cent purchase at the Zoo!
Absolutely a day I will always remember.....
(Remember from my previous post
that we ate at The Palm afterwards)
P.S. We could have been at a formal dinner that evening but Mark didn't want to rent a tux and of course I would have needed a new dress! I would have enjoyed that but I think this day was extra special for us just the way it was :)

I love all of these pictures! I love turtles too, we've had a few as pets.
I'm so happy that you are breathing easy these days! That is absolutely wonderful. xoxo
awesome visit to the zoo.. love the giraffe mask..
So glad you are breathing better and that you enjoyed the trip to the zoo. You got some really good pictures of the animals. I think maybe I liked the picture of the zebra the best.
Love the photos. I wonder where the nearest zoo is over here?
Awesome shots.....love the San Diego Zoo!
The San Diego Zoo is the first one I ever remember going to.
YAY for breathing!! I love the hominiods!! It's amazing to see ourselves in these creatures.
What beautiful pictures. So glad you had a wonderful time. Makes me want to go there. I was there in 1974.
So glad to hear you're breathing easier.
We love going to the zoo... we go almost weekly. I love giraffes. They're my favourite (aside from Red Pandas of course).
Wishing you a lovely day!
xoxo
So wonderful about your breathing and no issues!!!
I've been to the San Diego zoo many times with my grands and my favorite animal is the giraffe! I think they are such graceful animals.
Looks like a beautiful zoo! I think that's a fun way to spend the day! I want to go to St. Louis when the new elephant makes her appearance. She was just born on Friday!
How wonderful that you were able to walk around all day and feel good!
Great animal shots. So glad you had such a good time!

Great zoo shots, Debbie! The rolling "primate" is hilarious.
Love the animal pictures! It's great that you're breathing easier. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Now I want to go to the zoo.
i agree - sounds like a perfect day
I have asthma so I understand how you feel about breathing. I ;ve the San Diego Zoo and it would be my second home if I lived there.
How wonderful that you felt good! Your story of Elmer is great :-)
I totally miss the San Diego Zoo. Its one of the markers of my childhood. That is the BEST zoo you can ever visit. It beats even the LA Zoo or any others I may have seen. The most memorable.
The giraffe is my favorite zoo animal. Those giraffes are beautiful! I bet the San Diego zoo is just amazing. The Knoxville Zoo is pretty good, but I haven't been since college.
What an awesome day!!! I just love all the animals and great shots!
I so want to go there, hopefully one day! So much better then my zoo here.
I totally get trading tails and tiaras for pregnant giraffes.
Enjoyed the tour.
I seriously think that is the best zoo in the United States - I would love to see it again and of course show Andy! sandie
That's one of my favorite zoos ever. And I LOVED hearing your turtle story!
I love the San Diego Zoo although it's exhausting to cover the whole zoo in one day. Great pictures.
A pet turtle? Elmer sounds like a smart guy! So nice that you feel better today than you did 20 yrs ago. Also great that you have an appreciative heart. Go Deb!!
Amazing pictures and day. I love love going to the zoo and would think seeing this would be awesome.
Sounds like the prefect day and I am so glad you were able to walk through without any problems.
