IT'S A SNOW DAY AT WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Our Wednesday Hodgepodge host Joyce wanted a much needed snow day so we will resume our regularly scheduled program next week.
How will you spend your Snow Day? I will be spending mine making snow angels in an 88 degrees pool of melted snow with some fake owls and a swan who keep the ducks away :) This evening I will be going out to dinner with my dad and a couple who he has known since his high school days. They are celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary.
Speaking of anniversaries Mark and I will be celebrating ours on Monday the 24th. I have a post coming up on Sunday with some pictures from our weddings. Today I want to share something with you that happened at the pool this past Sunday.

As time goes by we often take things for granted. Also as time goes on we can sometimes let little things get on our nerves, especially when it comes to our husbands and aging. Right....anyone agree with me?

When I was at the pool two woman came there to relax. They got in the water and were sitting across the pool from me on a bench area where you can have spa jets on if you want. I had no intentions of listening to their conversation but it couldn't be avoided. I could hear what they were saying. I heard them say that it was a God thing how they met at a store while dropping off some film. I also know that there was "someone" who wanted me to hear their conversation.

They started to share stories about their deceased husbands. These woman were both around my age and that was a wake up call for me. I sat there listening to them reminisce about the things they miss and I was thinking just how lucky I was to have Mark. How unbelievable dumb it is to harp on him for the things that get under my skin when I should be doing nothing more than loving each moment he is in my life.

I will try my hardest to remember these two woman when my blood begins to boil!

thanks for sharing - it is so easy to take things for granted... it is wonderful when you have a "wake-up" call in advance of something bad...

It's so easy (human nature and all) to focus on the negatives ... we need to remember how blessed we truly are. Thanks for sharing this with us.

AMEN!!! He sends us reminders and the testimony we need in that moment!

It always makes me smile at how thoughtful he is to give us these moments. I mean really in the realm of everything going on to send us that one moment that can mean so much but really is not a life or death moment just a moment to help us just makes me love and appreciate him even more.

Enjoy your snow angels in the pool!!

We all need this wake up call! I would be so lost without Russell! So thanks!

I was in the pool for a long time today trying to keep cool!

We are so easy to get upset with those we love the most for the silly reasons. We forget that when they are gone, we will miss those silly things after all. It's a lesson well woth learning now, while they are with us and we tell them how much we love them, silly stuff and all.

Thanks for the reminder. It is way too easy to take our mates for granted and to fall into the habit of grumbling about the small stuff. I know I need to do better.

I wish I had Dave to annoy me, just one more time.
BTW, I LOVE your wallpaper; it's fabulously beautiful!

It's always good to have a reminder to count our blessings no matter what our situation is.

Well, we're all guilty I'm afraid. It's like we can't see the forest for the trees at times. Great reminder and happy anniversary!

It can be so hard to stay focused on the blessings in our lives in the face of all the small, daily annoyances, but moments like this really help keep things in perspective. Thanks for the reminder!

What a great thing you shared here today, that is neat what you heard and how it changed your own perspective.

God bless you!

Those reminds so often come at just the right time, don't they?

Wonderful post!

Your pool looks quite refreshing.

Oh Debby, on Tuesday my mother-in-law and late father-in-law would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary had he not passed away in February. I felt so bad for her, imagining what a great celebration they would have had; probably a party AND a vacation getaway.
Instead, she was at home alone. (I would have went over and cooked for her, but I had to work).
So, yeah, I'm a newlywed but still forget to cherish my husband in the day to day of life. Thanks for another reminder!

I've gone through the same. I'll get mad at Rich for little reasons and then I think of what it would be like to lose him and I it changes my whole mindset. :-)

How wonderful for your Dad's friends to have been married for so long! We just celebrated Rich's great-aunt and uncle's 65th yesterday. It's just amazing to me! :-)
