1. What's something people might ask you for help with?
As a rule I am often a person who people like to talk to when they have personal problems with life. I can usually see both side of a situation and have been told that I make them feel better.
2. What's something you might ask someone else for help with?
Well I do have a few people that I discuss my own personal issues with. Just because I can work through others issues that doesn't mean I'm good with my own.
3. Did your family take summer vacations when you were a child? If so, where did you go? If you're a parent, did/do you plan summer vacations with your own family? Did/do they resemble those you took as a child?
My father's parents had a home in Union Pier, MI that we spent our summers at. It wasn't right on the beach but we did go to the beach often. They never owned a home before but did build this sweet little home that we enjoyed for many years in the summer. ( I always wondered how/why they choose Union Pier but recently I came across a great article that talked about many Bohemians living there)
My father had a summer home on Huntley Lake near Antioch, IL which my children enjoyed for many years. When we moved to California 25 years ago we did go back for a few weeks each summer for several years. For the last 18 years we have been going to Mammoth Lakes, CA which our children also enjoyed each year. I love traditions!
4. Pool-lake-ocean...which one is most appealing to you on a hot summer day
I love the ocean but I will choose a pool for a refreshing dip without getting all sandy!
5. Have you ever justified using the expression, 'you gotta be cruel to be kind'? Was it really necessary or were you rationalizing?
No I can't remember myself every using that expression.
6. The Journal of Psychology recently mentioned the results of a survey identifying the ten most hated foods as-liver, lima beans, mayonnaise, mushrooms, eggs, okra, beets, brussel sprouts, tuna, and gelatin. Of those foods, how many do you actually hate? Anything you'd add to the list?
I don't hate any of them. I don't eat liver but I use to like Braunschweiger liver sausage.
7. What's your favorite book or movie set in a beach or lake town?
I'm going to say Six Days Seven Nights with Harrison Ford and Anne Heche. I also enjoyed Nights in Rodanthe with Richard Gere and Diane Lane.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
We arrived home yesterday around 5 pm from our annual trip to Mammoth Lakes, CA.
It was a great week!

welcome home... for swimming I choose pool, for looking i want ocean.
our vacations when i was growing up were not vacations, they were trips to see my grandparents at their homes. my granddaddy owned motel in Florida and a restaurant. so i loved visiting him, we got our own little cabin and i could eat FREE whatever i wanted. but he would not let me have 2 burgers or 2 milkshakes.. mean old grandaddy
G'morning, Debbie!
First, I love these sorts of Q n' A's ... and love getting to know nice folks via these exercises. (Thinkin' I'd like to join in the fun one of these days?)
Have to admit, I was heartbroken to learn two of my favs were on the "most-hated" list: Mayo and okra. (Ya, I'm that gal who likes a little hamburger with her mayo.)
Wishing you a great week (post-vacation ... groan)!
Hugs from Phoenix,
Myra
Debby I too use to live close to Antioch, IL, small world.
Always enjoy reading your answers Debby. As I do not live within 1,000 miles of an ocean I think that my answer to #4 might be a bit different than yours. Guess the water is always bluer on the other side of the country. ツ
You're doing much better than I, Debby. I haven't participated in Hodgepodge for quite some time. Summer has been super BUSY! Be sure to pop by my blog tomorrow! I'm having a giveaway! :)
Loved reading these questions and responses; great getting to know you a bit better.
Well do you like coconut? I like the pool and the ocean too. Nights in Rodanthe was great but so sad. sandie
I to love the ocean. Love the sound of it. Of course maybe I am intrigued by it living in a landlocked state. :)
Welcome Home! Glad you had a good trip. I like traditions too : )
Hope you had a nice, relaxing time on vacation!
When we visited the Outer Banks last fall, I wanted to make sure that we visited Rodanthe while there.
I still like Braunschweiger, but I can't remember the last time I had some. I always liked mine sliced and on white bread, with mayo and pickle relish. ;-)
Glad to see that you made it home safely Debby. Mmm...I think I need to but myself some Braunschweiger! Haven't had it for years and I love it!
Welcome back my dear, hope you had fun! From the FB pics it sure does look like it was :).
I would love you around, so could use you for mediator :)
I don't think I've ever used that expression. But I do know with a relative who was manic that hitting rock bottom was something that was used for him.
loved Nights in Rodanthe and the book too :)
Summers in michigan sound fun
I think cruel to be kind is a crock. Cruel is just cruel.
On that list, I don't eat liver or gelatin because they are meat products, but I don't hate anything on the list.
Welcome Home! I am sure you guys had a blast in CA! I love annual trips where the destination feels like home too :)
I am with you I LOVE the ocean but it IS nice not to worry about what is nipping at your feet :)
Mushrooms are something I abhor, detest, hate! Yuck. And it's not even the taste really, it's the consistency of them.
I love liver and sprouts and can eat them more than a few times a week! Yum!
The only thing on the list of foods that I don't like is liver...but I haven't had it since I was a kid, so maybe I'd like it now?
I hope you had a great vacation! I enjoyed seeing some of your pics on facebook :-)
pool, lake or ocean - can you guess what my pick would be :)
glad you had a good trip...and made it home safely...we rarely ever took family vacations growing up...
So what you're saying is you don't like a Brussel sprout salad with mayo and liver dressing?
Gag.
ha!
I'm pretty good at giving advice to others, but not always great at advising myself.
