MOVIE MONDAY

This post is kinda long but the words are short :)

I went to see Philomena and it was excellent. It is based on a true story and I really enjoyed Judi Dench and Steve Coogan together. There is sadness but there is also laughter and I think it is definitely worth seeing.

"A world-weary political journalist picks up the story of a woman's search for her son, who was taken away from her decades ago after she became pregnant and was forced to live in a convent."

I saw Nebraska and I thought it was a good story. Bruce Dern and Will Forte, along with the other actors, were excellent and it was really down to earth. The movie is filmed in black and white.

"An aging, booze-addled father makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million-dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize."

Next is the movie Her which was definitely different. I have to say that while watching this movie I was enjoying it but when it ended I wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to take from this movie.

"A lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with his newly purchased operating system that's designed to meet his every need."

Wow, Dallas Buyers Club was excellent. Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto were fantastic! I had no idea going in what the movie was really about. I remember seeing McConaughey in an article about the weight he had lost for one of his movies that was coming out but that's about it. I really didn't know about these buyer clubs back in the day with the HIV/AIDS outbreak. This is based on a true story and what a story it was........
"In 1985 Dallas, electrician and hustler Ron Woodroof works around the system to help AIDS patients get the medication they need after he is himself diagnosed with the disease."

We went to see Gravity on Thursday night. I was aware of one thing about this movie going in because I happened to watch a little bit of an interview of Rob Lowe on the Bill Maher show and in error Bill Maher gave away something about the movie. Rob Lowe is not in this move and I don't know why the subject came up but our son told me that it wouldn't change how I felt about the movie.

We saw it in 3D and we actually liked it. My dad had said to me "are you sure you want to see that, you don't think you will be bored?" I wasn't bored at all, it was an intense story and the views were amazing.

"A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space."

I went to see August: Osage County on Thursday afternoon. (yes these are out of order)  I know that many of us come from dysfunctional families, although I didn't know that about mine until I was older. Well this family is definitely a mess. I liked the movie and the acting was very good. Besides Meryl Streep and Julie Roberts this movie is filled with several actors who I adore and follow. If your ready for some family drama then this is the one to see!
"A look at the lives of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose paths have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Oklahoma house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them."

We went Sunday afternoon to see 12 Years a Slave and it was an excellent movie. It was so moving, emotional, sad and brutally true. Definitely a must see and worthy of the nominations.

"In the antebellum United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery.

Have a Great Week....go see a movie!

Thanks for posting your thoughts on these Debby. If it warms up here in KC we may catch a few of them. If not there is always Netflix. :)

I loved hearing your thoughts on each one of these movies. I really want to see Gravity, but haven't made it yet.

Hi Debby! You definitely saw almost all the movies on my list to see. I have seen Gravity, and didn't really like it. I am in minority here though.

We just saw 'Saving Mr. Banks' which I thought was wonderful. The trailer for Philomena was really interesting, and we have put that on our 'to see' list!

"Her" does look a little weird, but I still want to see it. If I get to see it, I'll let you know what I thought!
Blessings, Ceil

I don't see many movies and when I do, it is usually a children's movie with the grandbabies.

I bet they know you at the theater!! I liked Gravity, too. Sandra Bulloch carried it well.

Wow, I don't want to see one movie this week, I want to see all of them that you reviewed Debby! All sound interesting in one way or another! Going to write them down for the future when they are at Redbox!

The only one of these I've seen is Gravity. My son is a movie critic, and he and I both LOVED it!

Of all those movies I've only seen Gravity and liked it! Since I'm unemployed now and my hubby is traveling I think I might treat my self to the Julia Roberts one not sure he would want to see it! Have a great week!

There are a couple of them I really want to see on your list. I don't like it when it is a good movie and when it is over - it was close to bring me knowledge - but the answer was just not there.

Anyway I want to see the one with M. Streep.

Love, sandie
