Volume 160
Join us in Joyce's Hodgepodge!
1. It's been said that one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Do you think that's true? Do you find that an easy exercise most mornings? What's something positive you told yourself today? If you missed that boat, what's something positive you could tell yourself tomorrow?
Sounds like a good plan, if only I could do it.
2. There will be karaoke at the next party you attend...are you in? Or will you be faking a sore throat?
I think I would give it a try.....I've never done it before.
3. January 29th is National Puzzle Day...what's something you've found puzzling recently?
Windows 8
4. Jigsaw, crossword, acrostic, logic, sudoku, word search...what's your favorite kind of puzzle, and when did you last work one?
I will say I love jigsaw puzzles the most but rarely get around to doing one. You might find me doing a word search or a super easy crossword from time to time.
5. Recently a writer by the name of Amy Glass ruffled feathers with a post she wrote saying she looks down on young women with husbands and kids and she's not sorry. Among other things, she says women will be equal with men when we stop saying house work and real work are equally important. You can read the whole piece by clicking here.
I'm not even going over to read it. What was shared so far makes me angry enough on its own.
What say you? Do you think men and women are equal in the 21st century? Why or why not?
I plead the 5th!
6. What's a product you've noticed in the grocery store that you'd like to try, but haven't yet?
I can't think of anything right now. Truthfully I am not in the grocery store very often. We do all our shopping at Costco and I pick some things up in between at Target or Trader Joe's.
7. The author, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll) was born this week in 1832 (January 27th). Which character from his celebrated novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, would you most like to meet, and why? Here's a linkto a character list if you need help on this one.
I'm going to say The Queen of Hearts because you know I want to be a Queen.....but according to the description of her from the link I have to say I am acting like her right now!
The Queen of Hearts - The ruler of Wonderland. The Queen is severe and domineering, continually screaming for her subjects to be beheaded.
8. Insert your own random thought here.....
Well it took several hours but I managed to get my photos, documents and music downloaded to my new computer. I bought a transfer cable that works with the Windows transfer program. A few issues getting it to work but finally with emailing back and forth to the company I got it all sorted out.
That being said, the only thing that truly works without any issues are my photos. To play my music I had to download X-Box Music. Now I have to find something that will read my documents.
I have also worked with three different people to get my Norton 360 on this computer. It's there now but not linked with my current account. The woman I worked with on Monday for over an hour said try back in the afternoon, which meant she can't fix it.
Now if anyone knows how to get your Picasa 3 account onto a new computer let me know. All I can say is thank you to Sandra the MadSnapper who encouraged me months ago to set up Google Chrome because it is the one place on this new computer that feels like home.

i liked your 'puzzling' windows 8. bless you...
Windows 8 is 'puzzling' to me, too. Thankfully, my sons are both computer geeks, and are willing to help this old woman through it at times :)
Windows 8. LOL I thought it was going to be hard at first but I think it's ok. The biggest problem is that it's TOO organized and that confuses me. I took the 5th on #5 too.
Goodness your right, so far windows 8 is driving me wild, lol Enjoy your day!
I loathe Windows 8!!!!
i have been living in horror of something happening to one of my computers since the new 8 is causing such a stink.. sounds crazy to me....
and about number one, i am POSITIVE that having a POSITIVE thought will not change a thing.
So sorry you're still having some computer issues. I know how frustrating that can be. Have a good one, my friend!
I would never karaoke - I sing way too bad
Haven't went to windows yet-still in the dark ages here.
One day at a time.
I have not sang karaoke, but if I had a glass of wine and was with you I might!
I like word search.
Have a great day Debby.

We're total MAC people here now so I'm no help. Glad you got most things working though. I played the Queen of Hearts in our 6th grade play. I can be bossy when its called for : )
YAY for the new computer!
I love karaoke. I haven't done it in forever.
You and I had pretty much the same answer to #5!
Sorry, I'm no help on Windows 8. Hope you get it worked out soon.
I have not had to deal with Windows 8 yet....hope you got it figured out.
Madsnapper Sandra has been a lifesaver for me too!
I haven't read that article, but no doubt it would make me MAD.
Sorry you are having computer woes!
Our computer has bit the dust! I didn't know that Windows 8 was having troubles....hmmm. I backed all of my photos up the other day so I feel good about that. I hope that you get your computer puzzle figured out soon and without too much more of a hassle!
You deserve a pat on the back! It's no small feat to move your life from one computer to the next. Well done my friend:)
I will have to have lots of help, when I need a new computer! Windows 8 sounds intimidating. Karaoke is a lot of fun...
I think the word "puzzled" sums up my life right now!!
As far as technological things, after years (actual years and years) of having a very old cell phone, I finally have successfully negotiated the new waters of a smart phone. Gosh, it's hard to learn new tricks when you're an old dog!
As to HodgePodge - loved your answers. I might add mine: 1. No, also not a positive person by nature. 2. I'd try the karaoke. 3. The smart phone. 4. In this order: Crossword, jigsaw, sudoku, word search, acrostic, logic. 5. Grrr. I spent years as a housewife and stay-at-home mom. It was work - enough said. 6. I'd like to try the new flavors of potato chips - over and over again! 7. The Cheshire Cat - I'd like to know his secret to grinning all the time!
Random thought - I love your blog!
Oh gosh I am sorry to hear about the computer troubles. I m about to get an upgrade also and not looking forward to it at all!
Lots of hard work to get things transferred from one computer to another! I used to like to work jigsaw puzzles, but haven't in years. So relaxing. Might have to set up a table and get one going!
betty
I'm sorry that the new computer is causing you so many issues. I heard that Microsoft got so many complaints about Windows 8 that the next update will be more like previous versions.
1. This I believe and I, generally, wake up in a good, most times, great mood. The dogs are happy so I get happy too.
2. The next party I attend, they'll be passing out Depends.
3. Why the prez hasn't been impeached.
4. jigsaw puzzles.
5. Amy Glass sounds like a very unhappy, bitter, anxious woman. IMO, women's lib is the worst thing that's happened to women in the last 100 years. I'd like to beat Gloria Steinem with my bra.
6. none.
7. not at all sure.
8. Here I sit, wasting time, but enjoying your blog, when I should be packing boxes.
This was fun, Debby, thanks!
Oh yes positive or negative and set the tone for my day!
I'm so with you on Windows 8
