WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Volume 176
Thank you Joyce!!!

1. What news story are you following right now?
I don't watch the news or read the newspapers but I did hear about and look into the knife/shooting in Isla Vista, CA. My dad is my newsman, he calls me when something bad has happened.

2. What's the last thing you wanted but didn't get?
Just going with the very last thing as I am typing this on Tuesday morning.....I got a sample of a face cream from Sephora with my last order and I'm liking it a lot.

When I opened my email this morning the Today's Special Value from QVC just happens to be that cream. I hadn't even done any research on the price as yet. Well the TSV includes the cream and a serum which each sell for around $117. and they had the two for $145. A great value which I didn't buy but really wanted to.

3. May 28th is National Hamburger Day...when did you last have a hamburger? Other than your own kitchen or BBQ grill, where is your favorite place to go for a hamburger? And for all you non-meat eaters out there...when you're invited to a cookout what is the one side dish you hope is on the menu?
I had a hamburger about 12 days ago and I get them lettuce wrapped. I have been a big fan of In-n-Out Burgers but then I fell in love with Red Robin's gourmet burger. Recently we have been going to Five Guys which my husband loves and I'm starting to love them too!

4. How have your priorities changed over time?
I would have to say YES!

5. What's a favorite memory with your grandparents?
I was young but I do remember being at my grandparents (dads) summer home in Union Pier, MI. They never owned a home but did own the summer home that they were very proud of. We would walk to town and get an ice cream cone at the bowling alley.

My other grandparents (moms) would come in from Florida for the summer and stay in our finished basement. My grandmother made the best ever chocolate chip cookies. Both of my grandmother's were excellent cooks and we always had traditional Bohemian meals.

6. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being fantastic!), how good are you at multitasking? Share an example.
I think I would give myself an 8. I am definitely good under pressure when need be but that doesn't happen very often but I've always been pretty good at it. I think when your children are young or still at home most women are great at multitasking!

Now for me multitasking would be on Wednesday when I clean house, do laundry, take the dogs out a dozen times and read at least 35 Hodgepodge posts. It is my busiest day all week!!! That is why I will treat myself on Thursday and go to the show......

7. How would you summarize your highs and lows for the month of May?
Well I am going to use a scale of 100% with 30% high and 70% low. The 30% high would be celebrating Amber's 33rd birthday and this past weekend in Arizona with Mark's family.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
We spent the weekend in Peoria, AZ with Mark's sister and her spouse Pam. Mark's mom flew in from Houston, TX to join us. We had the most wonderful time visiting. We hardly went outside although we did get one walk in. We talked and talked, laughed ourselves silly and ate wonderful meals hardly ever leaving the round table we sat around!

On the left is Stanley with the ball we bought him. He is about a year old and is a Coon/Foxhound mix. In the middle is a plate of roast pork, dumplings and sauerkraut. On the left is a special treat we had on Sunday evening. It was a white chocolate peppermint Martini and it was yummy!

I do like Red Robin for burgers, too, although that's just way too much food for me to eat at one sitting. ;-) We haven't been in forever ... I think a visit before too long might be in order.

I enjoyed the Red Robin we went to down in Utah. Don't really remember what I had though. I can multi-task when necessary. But sometimes I get up to go to another room to do something, and when I get there, I have no idea why.

i really like five guys! i have to drive 45 min. to get to one so don't go very often but i would if they were closer! so maybe it's good they're not. :)

A white chocolate peppermint martini. That sounds really good. I want one now! But, I haven't got any white chocolate, peppermint or martini, so it will have to be orange juice!

I want to try five guys, my nephew loves their burgers. Glad you enjoyed some family time.

There's nothing like a good burger! I went to my first In-n-Out last summer on vacation...I wonder if they'll come to Illinois? We do have Red Robin, which we never go to, and also Five Guys. I love their fries, and my girls love the peanuts!

Burgers on the grill are good this time of year. But I also like Portobello mushrooms on a bun just as well!

Stanley is adorable! Love those ears.

The pork looks so good! Sounds like a great weekend.

I guess I am just going to have to try a Red Robin burger! So many of you fellow bloggers have mentioned it as being so good! I'm sorry only 30% of your month of May was "high"…I hope you get a larger percentage in June!

I'm glad to hear you had a fun time in Arizona. Sitting around laughing, talking and eating with loved ones is simply the best :)

Stanley is adorable. I'm a sucker for long floppy ears. It looks like he liked his gift :)

Well that sounds like a wonderful weekend spent with family. I love the pup...I would like to have a coon hound, but I hear they howl a lot. : ) I love their ears.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time in Arizona - I'm so glad!! (And, my mistake, I thought Stanley looked like a beagle! Maybe a distant cousin??)

I enjoy HodgePodge with you - it's so fun learning more about you! I am also reading a bit about the situation in Isla Vista. I attended Westmont College, just down the road about 15 minutes. So, somehow I felt an *affinity* for this story. So sad. Last thing I wanted, but didn't get? A K-cup coffeemaker. Can't remember the last hamburger, but I know it was at In-N-Out!! My mom's parents lived about 4 hours away from us, but when they came to visit, we always went to a theme park. My dad never liked the crowds, so it was a treat to go with them!

GOD BLESS, Debby!

Oh my gosh! I love sephora! ;) i hope the face cream works. My face gets so dry but neutrogena has been working for years and I don't want to try anything else. :) I love buying make up products from Mac or Urban Decay. Anyway thanks for your condolence! She was certainly the sweetest cat you'd ever met! ;)

My husband is a BIG FAN of 5 guys. I'm glad they finally got a veggie sandwich, which is basically the grilled veggies. its decent though.
I'm all about their fries!

Hi, I've always wondered about Sephora-especially now that I'm older and my age is showing. I imagine it is very expensive though.
Thanks for sharing all these tidbits about yourself.
Have a great Thursday.

I'm pretty sure we don't have Red Robin or Five Guys. I'd love to have tried your grandmas' Bohemian cooking! And what movie are you going to see? I seldom go to a movie, and only after a recommendation. Let me know. Enjoyed your Hodgepodge.

Enjoyed your Hodgepodge.

I have not been to Five Guys yet, hope to do so too. I too like Red Robin's burgers. It is neat that the weekend was a fun one with lots of good laughs; we all need things like that more often than we get them. So true about mothers multi-tasking! I think that is a mother's middle name!

I am going to go look up Bohemian cooking. Sweet memories you have of your grandparents! I enjoyed the pictures you shared and was reminded that our dog, Benny, needs a new ball after his finally bit the dust. I hope you have a very good rest of your week!
