THERE WAS THIS ONE THANKSGIVING {SPIN CYCLE}

Joining Ginny Marie at
Lemon Drop Pie  for her Spin Cycle!

I've been wanting to share this Thanksgiving story from about 29 years ago and our adventure in Milwaukee with my brother.  When I saw Ginny's prompt for her Spin Cycle I decided that I had to join in on the fun!

THERE WAS THIS ONE THANKSGIVING...... Mark and I were divorced and I decided to drive to Milwaukee, WI from Clarendon Hill, IL with the kids to spend Thanksgiving with my brother and his partner at the time. I don't believe they had ever cooked a Thanksgiving meal before and I hadn't either. We were definitely the three stooges......

I can't remember each and every detail but I do remember that my son Adam woke up that morning and threw up all over the bed sheets along with the comforter.  I told them I would wash everything and they said no, we will just throw it all in the basement for now. I felt so bad. I found out years later that they actually threw everything into the trash and just bought new stuff. That was not the best start to our Thanksgiving day.

So then it was time to get the turkey in the oven but they couldn't get the oven to turn on which didn't give us much hope of cooking the turkey. They ran next door to their very helpful neighbor lady and she gave them some kind of electric roaster to make the turkey in and if I remember correctly we also used their oven for some of the side dishes.

So they called the Gas Company out which is never a fun thing to do on a Holiday. When the guy showed up later in the day we found out what the problem was. They had cleaned the stove up really good before I came over and had put all the dials on backwards. Can you believe it????

We had a pretty good laugh and couldn't believe none of us even thought about that. Honestly we tried and tried to get it to light not having a clue about the dials. Luckily the man was really nice and didn't charge them for his house call.

I do remember that we ended up having a delicious meal, a lot of laughs and definitely had some very interesting tales to tell after that weekend.......

This could almost be dubbed "the Thanksgiving from hell" but yet it seems like there were wonderful memories from it :) What nice neighbors to help out too and kind of the gas man not to charge for the call :)

We had a friend who moved into a new home in February a few years back. Before Thanksgiving she wanted to bake some pies, but the oven wasn't working. They called a repair man who determined the oven was defective from the factory. She had never turned the oven on in her 10 months of living there prior to then :)

Hope you are having a good time!

Funny story! At least it's fun now when you can look back and see the humor in it. :-) I once asked a guy to come over and light the pilot light on the gas stove because I was scared to do it (years and years ago). He did, and singed his eyebrows off. LOL (not funny at the time either. Funny now. :-)

Such a fun story! Isn't it funny how sometimes the worst "tragedies" end up being our very best stories when we tell them later?! We've got some of those in our family, too.

Hope this year's Thanksgiving was better. At least hoping there was no throwing up!

XO

That's fantastic! My ex-husband and I used to refer to our lives as the Adventures of the Two Stooges.
