This will be a long one but not very wordy. I saw a movie in late November and one early December which I didn't post because I usually wait until I have seen several. Then suddenly at the end of December I saw six movies in like nine days. (sorry it did get a little wordy)
We went to see The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 a few days after it opened. What can I say, I love The Hunger Games and thoroughly enjoyed seeing this one!
"Katniss Everdeen is in District 13 after she shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta and a nation moved by her courage."
Then I saw The Theory of Everything about the life of the physicist Stephen Hawkings and the relationship between him and his wife. This movie was very good.
As a rule when I go to the show I never read what the credits have said and I normally know nothing about the story in advance. I think this leaves me open to just enjoy movies for what they are.....entertainment!
Now, after just saying I usually go in knowing nothing about the story, I did have some knowledge of the story of Wild because I saw Cheryl on Oprah's OWN channel. I actually asked for the book that Christmas but never did read it.
Yes I buy books but often don't get around to reading them before they actually come to the screen. Or sometimes I see something at the show and go out and buy the book.
I have this thought in my head that I want my grandchildren to read these stories like The Help, The Butler, Fault in the Stars, etc. Like books will even be around when that happens! Of course they will be around but just think about how advanced things will be in another 20 years.
I loved this movie!
Reese Witherspoon was excellent.
"A chronicle of one woman's 1,100-mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent catastrophe."
Mark and I went to see The Gambler, it was a good movie but left us a little upset. The man definitely had a problem gambling problem but what really bothered us is how mean he was. He didn't have any feelings for the people he hurt along the way. I do however think it is worth seeing.
"Lit professor and gambler Jim Bennett's debt causes him to borrow money from his mother and a loan shark. Further complicating his situation is his relationship with one of his students. Will Bennett risk his life for a second chance? "
Mark and I went to see two movies on December 31st. It doesn't happen often when you can actually see two in one day because of the times they play but when it works I like to do that. The first movie we saw was Top Five. It wasn't one that I even knew about but Mark wanted to see it.
This movies was funny, Chris Rock is one funny guy. I really enjoyed it. Of course it gets a bit dirty so you have to be in the right frame of mind to see this one.
"A comedian tries to make it as a serious actor when his reality-TV star fiancée talks him into broadcasting their wedding on her TV show."
The second movie we saw was Horrible Bosses 2. OMG this movie had us laughing so hard. I just love when that happens. It was definitely better than the first movie. I will buy this movie when it comes out on DVD.
We also had a lovely meal at Wood Ranch before the movies. Then we came home and tried to stay awake until midnight for the New Year!
"Dale, Kurt and Nick decide to start their own business but things don't go as planned because of a slick investor, prompting the trio to pull off a harebrained and misguided kidnapping scheme."
Then I did a double feature on January 6th. The two movies Mark and I saw and the two movies I saw were at our $5. Tuesday's/Thursday's or the $4. Senior Day which is Wednesday's. Can't beat that!
I went to see Big Eyes which is based on a true story. I found it to be very interesting and I'm glad I saw it. The actor's did a great job.
"A drama about the awakening of the painter Margaret Keane, her phenomenal success in the 1950s, and the subsequent legal difficulties she had with her husband, who claimed credit for her works in the 1960s."
The second movie I saw was Into The Woods which I didn't have a clue about the story at all. From beginning to end I was enchanted with this movie. I know people say it is dark but I thought it was fantastic. I loved how the fairy tales weave together in this movie.
Of course it doesn't hurt to really like many of the main characters, people who I often go to see when their movies comes out. I didn't even know that a few of them were in this one which was an added bonus. I will buy this movie on DVD!
"A witch tasks a childless baker and his wife with procuring magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse the curse put on their family tree."

wow! you are just single-handedly keeping the cinemas going in your area! :)
Like I said before, I do enjoy your movie reviews, Debby. It helps me to pick movies when they come out in Red Box. I think I would like to see Into The Woods; I have heard good things about it. You cannot beat a $5 or $4 movie either!
betty
i watched 4 movies in one day when bob was watching football, does that count?
I haven't seen a one of them - but I want to! Thanks.
I agree with you on Mockingjay. I loved it. The only other one I've see is Into the Woods. I loved Meryl Streep in it, but was not enthralled with the movie.
I do love reading what you have to say about the movies though. Thanks for sharing.
The only one that I have seen is The Hunger Games...
Love, Love, Love
I have been playing around with my blog, again.
I started a Google+ page, as opposed to just a G+ profile.
I wonder how it's going to work out.
Have a great weekend!
We just never go to movies - ever. But I enjoy reading what you think about them! We usually wait and buy them on DVD if we want one bad enough.
I haven't even heard of most of those movies! We just haven't gotten around to seeing Mockingjay yet; how sad is that?
There are a few I would love to go and see. Especially the one about the painter. And "Into the Woods".
I want to see Wild. I am hoping to go soon. They go through here so fast...sometimes I miss them.
Thanks for this Debby. Very helpful as I have not seen any of these yet.
Wow, I had no intention of seeing Horrible Bosses 2, but now I won't be able to resist because I love a good laugh. Thanks for the info.
I really want to see Wild.
I can't WAIT to see Mocking Jay!! Love the movies :)
