AT THE MOVIES

I went to see The Imitation Game and it was a great story. I am so glad I saw this movie. I didn't know about Alan Turing and this is based on a true story. It really moved me. I won't say more because I don't want to take anything away from the movie if you see it.
"During World War II, mathematician Alan Turing tries to crack the enigma code with help from fellow mathematicians."

On Thursday evening, the 22nd of January, I went to see American Sniper with Mark. Here is another true story that I didn't know anything about because I never watch the news or read the papers.

What a story and I don't care what they say, he is a war hero in my mind. I don't like war, I think it is horrible, but all he was doing was his job. Bring you tissues.....
"Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle's pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and turns him into a legend. Back home to his wife and kids after four tours of duty, however, Chris finds that it is the war he can't leave behind."

On Monday I went to see Whiplash and it was excellent, very intense. Definitely worth seeing!

In preparation for the Academy Awards I am trying to see some movies that I missed or never even played near me. Thankfully they have brought a few to our local theaters after the nominations.
"A promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential."

On Tuesday I went to see Cake which was another excellent movie in my opinion. So glad I got to see it. Jennifer Aniston did a great job. It was a sad story but true to life for a lot of people.
"Claire becomes fascinated by the suicide of a woman in her chronic pain support group while grappling with her own, very raw personal tragedy."

Sometimes you just have to go see something silly, right? I am not a huge fan of Kevin Heart but he can be funny. I love Josh Gad so I wanted to see this movie. The Wedding Ringer was cute and entertaining.
"Two weeks shy of his wedding, a socially awkward guy enters into a charade by hiring the owner of a company that provides best men for grooms in need."

I like movies like Selma. Even though I was growing up during this time I saw very little about this when it was happening. I was having too much fun being a teenager. I thought this movie was very good. I was raised by parents who loved all people and there was no prejudice spoken in our home.

I learned more about Martin Luther King Jr. than I had known. They marched for their rights but never carried weapons. They just wanted peaceful demonstrations. Maybe if I was raised in the south things would have been different and my parents opinions might have been different too but I would hope not.

This movie is definitely worth seeing.
"A chronicle of Martin Luther King's campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in 1965."

I love to go to the movies. My movie club hasn't been active lately. The women in it are always traveling and we don't always like the same things. If you lived nearby, we would be movie buddies.

I enjoyed your thoughts on these movies. I enjoy movies and am falling behind in the current ones. One of my adult sons makes sure he see all the nominated movies each year. It's always fun to talk about movies with him.

Out of those, Cake sounds the most interesting to me.

We don't ever go to movies, but you mentioned at least two I would be interested in seeing: The Imitation Game, and American Sniper.

Hi Debby! Ok, I'm a little jealous about all these movies you are seeing...I want to see them too! Usually my husband and I are all about seeing the nominated movies before the Oscars. But as you know, I'm a bit housebound.
I just saw JK Simmons on TV, my husband really likes him. So, that would be the first one on our list to see. I'm kind of interested in Cake too. I hear that Jennifer Aniston is really good in it!
Monday blessings,
Ceil

Oh, we absolutely never go to the movies, just always think of other things we would rather do and then I watch what I want to see on Netflix. Happy week!

You do know, don't you, that you're my personal Leonard Maltin! Always appreciate your reviews. I have been thinking about seeing The Imitation Game. Years ago I saw a play about this, and it was fascinating. I won't add any spoiler either, but I know you know some of the feelings it stirred up in me, too.

Thanks for your sharing!

I have heard about the Alan Turing story, but the last time I went to the cinema is over a year ago and I doubt it will happen anytime soon again.

Hi Debby, I haven't seen American Sniper because it looked sad and I didn't want to cry in the theater. However, on Saturday hubby and I went to see Black or White with Kevin Costner. It was such a good movie-we loved it. Hope he gets an award for it. He put much of his own money into making this movie. Thank you for your prayers! Hope you have a great afternoon.
Hugs, Noreen

I don't usually don't get to the movies but for Ricks' bday we do and saw American Sniper. I didn't think I would enjoy but I did. It brought tears to my eyes. I so agree I hate war but I also know that there are ppl who protect and serve and risk their lives so we can walk around in the world we have.
