Volume 226
Stop on over to Joyce's blog and join in!

1. On Saturday July 4th America celebrates her Independence. (If you're not American,  feel free to answer in terms of a national holiday in your own country) What is your favorite thing about the day? Your favorite food on the 4th? Do you fly a flag at your house? Fireworks-yay or nay? Any special plans this year?

Favorite thing about the day is celebrating America! I think I like a group of items like watermelon, potato salad, chips, hamburgers and hot dogs.

We do not fly a flag but I put small flags outside. I love fireworks. I am not home this year but since we live on a hilltop we see a lot of surrounding communities fireworks.

I do however always love being up close and personal to them and would love to see the ones presented by Macy's in NYC in person someday!

2. What's something you recently got for free?

Probably samples with my Sephora or Origins orders.

3.  The Statue of Liberty, The Liberty Bell, The Washington Monument, or Mount many on the list have you seen? What is your favorite historical American monument, and why?

I have only seen Mount Rushmore and the other's are definitely on my bucket list!  I'm going to say my favorite is The Statue of Liberty.

4. When it comes to the news are you more ostrich (stick my head in the sand) or hog (they have room to take a whole lot in)? How much attention have you given the recent news reports regarding ISIS and the acts of terror they've perpetrated against those who do not share their beliefs or support their cause?

If you know me you know that I do not watch the news ever, however being here with my father this past week I have seen nothing else on the TV during the day! (at a volume of 38) I hate what ISIS is doing and I pray for the families of the victims they are terrorizing.

5. We're talking plain ice cream...vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry? Choose one.

I choose vanilla.

6. Share a song you love containing the word 'stars' in the lyrics or title?

One of my favorite movies to watch right now is "The Fault In Our Stars" and I listen to this song  "All Of The Stars" often. I think you will enjoy it.

7. Describe and/or say goodbye to June with an acrostic.

Florida sunshine
Awesome times
Meaningful conversations
Idyllic moments
Loving people
Yummy foods

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

So I mentioned that we were going to the Hard Rock Casino and we did. We had a fun time and I won $250. Then when we got back I thought I would go over to the pool and realized that I never packed my swimsuit.

So yesterday I went to the mall, visited my sister at the Hallmark store she works at and then went hunting for a new swimsuit. When you are overweight swimsuit shopping is not fun! I really didn't want to have to buy a new one but I found one that I liked on sale.

Do you know, I own about 5 swim suits! Every time I have to get another one, because I forgot to pack one!!

Recently I have been ostrich like regarding the news. I didn't often watch it anyway: doom and gloom and such.

:) on your $250 winnings.

I think women NEVER like bathing suit shopping regardless of size and shape! And, congrats on winning the $ - which was more than enough for the new suit, right?

Sandra said...

I agree on the Vanilla ice cream, my favorite. in my 70 years i have never liked looking for a bathing suit. glad you found one ... you sure are having fun in Florida. when you go home please take about 20 degrees of heat and 20 of humidity with you.

Vanilla is my favorite too. I loved the song you chose and your acrostic for the month. Have fun being away and enjoy the family.

Congratulations on the win and thanks for sharing the song. Happy 4th July.

I always order my swimsuits from Lands End so I can try them on at home. I hate trying them on in the store. And sometimes I "forget" my swimsuit on purpose, especially on a cruise! Haha!
Very nice acrostic.

I bought my current bathing suit at KMart. It's a "skirt" one, and I really like it. It seems to hide all the right things in all the right places!
Good song!!! I haven't seen the movie yet, but the book was excellent!

I liked your acrostic, Debby; good one to sum up the month of June :)

Glad you found a bathing suit and that it was on sale! Congrats on the winnings!

I can't remember the last time I owned a swimsuit. I guess it was the last time I wasn't ridiculously overweight. And that was a really long time ago. Shame too since we live only 3.1 miles from the beach. I only go there to walk. Which is not too bad since there's so much yuck in the water these days and the number of jellyfish has gone nuts. Then there's the whole shark issue. LOL Glad you're having fun in Florida!

Congrats on your win at the casino:) Sounds like fun.
Shopping for swimsuits is depressing :( I don't do it anymore.
I had to laugh at the part of your post about watching the news all week, at a volume of 38... Ha! Been there, done that!

Way to go on your awesome winnings, Debby! There is nothing I hate more than shopping for a swimsuit. The lighting in the dressing rooms doesn't do anyone any favors. Blech!

I'm afraid I don't watch much of the news anymore..the world really is in a state.
Congrats on the big win, at least that should have taken the sting out of having got buy a new swim suit? :)

That's funny, the only one of those I haven't seen is Mount Rushmore!

I don't have any real traditions on July Fourth. This year I'm got reservations at a B&B in North Carolina.

Congrats on the $250! I read The Fault in our Stars and loved it. Then I watched the movie, which was also good.

I'm listening to your song as I type. I had never heard it before.

I was expecting you to say you spent your winnings on a swimsuit. A good one can be quite expensive so glad you got one on sale. But I agree. Swimsuit shopping is terrible on one's self-esteem, especially at our age. But, wear it proudly and enjoy soaking up those rays.

I love seeing fireworks on the 4th of July! We park on a back road outside a neighboring town that has them to watch them and bring snacks. It's really nice to go see them without having to worry about the crowds and traffic. ;-)

I choose vanilla too!

Shopping for a swimsuit in summer is almost impossible because they usually sell those in the spring. ;o I hope you were able to find one, usually Marshall's and Kohls have them all year around.

I despise swim suit shopping! I do know where my next one will be coming from since a new store opened. Cute and Covered. Finally something I might actually feel good about wearing.

Hi there, Great answers-always love reading what others write.
I got two new swimsuits this year-because we go to the pool almost daily during the summer. I've had a hard time the last number of years with finding one that fits well and this year I made sure I'd have enough.
Hope you have a wonderful 4th of July.
Hugs, Noreen

I hate bathing suit shopping. I'm glad you found one you like. Love your acrostic, sounds like you are having a wonderful time. Happy 4th!

Congrats on the $250 score! :)
I don't know of anyone over the age of 30 who'd admit to enjoy trying on swim suits. I gave mine to Goodwill last year, and told hubby I'm waiting for those long swim 'costumes' and wide brim hats to come back into fashion.

Have fun this holiday weekend!

You always do so good and win at the casino!

I hear you on swimsuit shopping :)

Cathy said...

You are right. Swimsuit shopping is no fun!

Hope you are having a great time in Florida with your dad and also hope you have a great 4th!

Tami said...

I'm with you - no news watching! I even leave the room when my husband turns it on. Somehow, I seem to hear plenty of it anyway.

Here's to a happy 4th - may God bless America!

Dee said...

That was a great song, very mellow. You and my hubby both love vanilla ice-cream. My favorite is chocolate.

Congrats on winning the money and have a lovely 4th of July... :)

Did you read Fault in our Stars? If you are a reader, do read it. Very good -- I read the book before the film and loved the book even more. Hope you have a great Independence Day spending your winnings!

When I was 11 my mom took my sister & me to New York...we got on a ferry to go out to the statue of Liberty & once we were on it-the ferry never went to her. it went AROUND her. we were all surprised :) We laughed a lot about it!

Ice cream? Chocolate - with maybe some chocolate sauce?!

Glad to hear about your wonderful time with family! There's nothing better, is there?!

Congrats winning in the casino. How funny, out of all the historical places mentioned, i have seen them all except for one, the one you have seen, Mt Rushmore. Happy 4th, Debbi!....Christine

I can relate to being on a hill watching fireworks. Our deck is about 40 feet up and we can see fireworks across both rivers.

Ann and I watched "The Fault In Our Stars" over the weekend and loved it.

Happy 4th Debby!
